Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Re: Lizzie (# 2555) Expand Referenced Message

I don't see Prlolia doing anything about it. When I contacted Amgen Aust the woman I spoke with said that yes, my problems (aching Jaw and sore thighbones) can be adverse affects but that they were very rare...meaning that my problems could not possibly be caused by Prolia. Really ??

Re: Lois (# 2558) Expand Referenced Message

That is a very good question, why is this the "go to" drug? Personally, I think all of these Osteo drugs are too toxic.

Dr.'s need to stop and listen to patients. It is doubtful that listening skills are taught in med school. I must say that I have noticed that the youngest ones seem to be more respectful of their patients. I recently attended a presentation by Dr. Atul Grande who stressed just that point, ask questions of patients and listen to them. It was heartening to see that there were medical students in attendance (all of them women!). All we can do is be proactive.

I know that this is very late but we can also change what we eat.

Re: Mother McB (# 29) Expand Referenced Message

I know that this is very late but we can also change what we eat. I am going to make sure to eat very healthy and especially make sure to get enough of all the vitamins and minerals needed to have good bones. The only other option is to be careful when it gets Ivey out next winter.

Re: Lois (# 2563) Expand Referenced Message

It's never too late. A more alkaline diet can be helpful. I was taking Collagen but I stopped due to concern that it would be too acidic; I am rethinking that. Exercise is important. There is a Yoga for Osteoporosis, also TTAPP. TTAPP has been my main exercise for years; I even gained an inch in height. The reason I developed Osteo was a long period of inactivity due to surgery. I still do Yoga, but I am still recovering balance; actually not recovering but gaining balance. I had a congenital leg length difference causing me severe myofascial pain syndrome. It was a long recuperation ( I wasn't so young ), then, just when I made progress, I took Prolia and I was back to severe musculoskeletal pain and weakness. Did I mention that I have had Fibromyalgia for 20 years? Long before it was recognized. All the pain I suffered from Prolia was nothing like my experience with these other painful, debilitating conditions.

There are to sites that I advise: Save Our Bones and Better Bones Blog.

ps In TTAPP there is a woman who started the program at the age of 73, she had severe Osteo at the time; now she is going strong at 90 with NO Osteo.

This is why I say it is never too late.

Good health to you.

Has anyone used the exercise program called Densercise? I am going to only use exercise and eating what is good for bones. Thank you for the information because I haven't heard of these sites before but will certainly check them out.

Hi, My 88y/o mom has been shrinking since her 60s, on alendronate for years, and now her dr is suggesting Prolia or,Reclast. She’s concerned about the pain issues, as she has plenty of aches and pains assoc with being 88! She is concerning about the side effects negatively affecting her for a number of months into the treatment.
What have you experienced and would you start this at 88?

I came across this site about Prolia. 161 people have probably died from prolia. Maybe it's more. Watch out before you get this poison.

Poodle (# 2573) --

It seems that they realized how much money could be made by marketing it for Osteo, even when no indication.
Profits over people is what I call it.

Re: Poodle (# 2576) Expand Referenced Message

Poodle, do you know if eczema and topical dermatitis is connected to Prolia? I'm thinking really, only death may relieve us of all the possible symptoms. I'm looking but haven't seen the diagnosis of skin disorders like this associated with Prolia. However they are autoimmune - - so I'm thinking its entirely possible. The skin issues mentioned with Prolia are sort of like, will, the just drop "skin problems" and move right along with no details. Thanks. I was doing so well, sigh. I found out these issues have everything to do with inflamation of the liver and the nerves right under the skin, or so I think anyway from what I'm reading.

Re: Hazlat (# 2583) Expand Referenced Message

From now on, I only believe what I read on the Internet! There are legitimate uses for this drug; the best we can hope for is for practitioner to narrow the eligibility for it. That doesn't seem likely due to enormous profits. It is important that we educate others to do the research and be their own advocate.

Are you on Prolia, I am ready for my shot in end of July. am trying to find someone to take me off. I really like my new primary Doc. But I can see I am not going to get help from him Thought when I go in for my shot of not taking and talking to the Doc, I have asked him several times when I can come off , and keep getting never.
My daughter from Denver is coming in for my appointment She is so upset, Have been diagnosed with RENAL CYSTIC DISEASE now. No one in my family has ever had Kidney disease. Sorry to hear of your story, they should take this medicine off the market.

Re: sal (# 2591) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, sal, you do have a right to refuse. I wish I had been told of all the many side effects of Prolia, drug name is Denosumab, alos marketed as Xgeva. It is a cancer drug, a form of chemotherapy!! As I said, I wish I had known before I took the first shot, it has been a living nightmare for me personally. Hope this helps you.

Re: Gloria (# 2595) Expand Referenced Message

There are legitimate uses, for cancer or for people at very high risk for fracture.
However, they are few in number compared to the number of people for whom it is prescribed. There should be strict guidelines for prescribing this drug; but that would cut into profits.

Re: sal (# 2596) Expand Referenced Message

I agree with you, I had a friend that took it for bone cancer, when I compared the drug and it was the same one I knew this should be used for only cancer patients. Thanks, sal
