Prolia Side Effects (Page 138) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Mattie,
I made a huge crock pot of chicken and green chili stew with bone broth today :), so good for the bones ??
Sal~guess what we get when we quit this poison -- spinal fractures and I have the proof of them. That is also listed by Amgen. Prolia ia a lose-lose proposition. I did not want it and I knew it was bad but my Dr. insisted I have it and in only 3 months she was doing everything humanly possible to get it out of me and she worked with an Immunologist. She apologized all over the place and thought it would help me with an upcoming total hip replacement. What stupidity. Surgeons don't operate on people that have impaired immune systems. There are already too many dangers with total joint replacement and we definitely need a very good immune system. I think all of us should work with an Immunologist with this poison in our bodies. They have keys to our immune system to help us back to health. I cannot go into detail what she did but I can tell you that I was well by the 6th month at which time I had a cataract removed in another State and then had my hip replaced close to where I live. I also have very severe osteoarthritis and that is why I have so many joint replacements...one more to go and I should be okay. For the spine, we have a Dr. that burns the nerves coming out of the spine that cause us the pain. It lasts about 7-8 years before it has to be done again. They can do it for other parts of the body too, like a foot, etc. The nerves eventually grow back together again and that is why it only lasts 7-8 years. I'm in a somewhat small cowtown so if I can find the help we need, I believe all of you can too. You need cooperation and appropriate referrals. Medical Doctors have to take us seriously! There are obviously some people that can tolerate Prolia but I sure don't know any nor would I ever take any biologic drug again in my life. They are all the same and impair our immune systems. NOTE TO JUDY: Mirtazapine will never bother you in the least. I've taken it in the largest amount possible and been on it for 10 years - no problems! I promise!¡ Take it at night as it is supposed to help sleep. You should awaken refreshed. In our combinations for our bones, please add calcium supplement, 600mg x3/;day preferably with acidic stomach so I drink some OJ or Limeade, etc. Most of them come with the Vitamin D we also need if we don't get sufficient sun on our skin. Hope I have addressed everyone's concerns. Additional note- an injection of a steroid will not hurt your bones. Be well my friends. You all are in my thoughts and prayers~Pood
Thanks for your info on Mirtazapine ,Pood,. My problem is that I have been on Trazodone for many years and am worried about taking the 2 together. I spoke to my pharmacist and he has put my mind at rest and I now am gradually weaning myself off the Trazodone. As to my shoulder problem , my niece had terrible problems with a tear in the groin area and eventually, at great cost, went to the Cleveland Clinic in Toronto and after a consultation was advised and had a stem cell treatment which completely healed her problem. I just spoke to my brother and he said that it is worth having a consult as it's covered by our provincial health plan and at least I'll know if I might be a candidate for the procedure. This has been going on for 10 months now. The stress of this and dealing with my sister's death last week due to a virulent cancer and my husband's collapses due to AFib have taken a huge toll on my health. Pood, how long did it take for Mirtazapine to take effect . I'm still not sleeping well and feel groggy most of the day. I finally had to take some lorazepam at 2 in the morning. I hate taking any meds and am trying hard to wean myself of all those that I don't really need. Also , as to calcium, I was told not to take it as it can cause problems with the heart but to get it from natural sources which I try to do. At the moment I'm not seeing any osteo doctor because I refuse to go back to the one who prescribed Prolia , which she called a miracle drug!! Again Pood, thanks for your continued interest and help, not just for me , but all of us.
Judy, Sal and I are using collagen daily. Calcium does cause calcification of plaque in the coronary arteries of the heart. I am using bone broth protein in my shakes regularly. I exercise regularly, walk daily, and do yoga all in an effort to retard the osteoporosis and maybe rebuild bone as well.
Judy~I don't know how much Mirtazapine you are taking. It can be up to 90mg at bedtime. That is the max that will not cause liver damage. Why are you on two different anti-depressants? Not good idea. Ask your Psychiatrist for something to help you sleep through the whole night. My recommendation would be Valium because it is the least addictive of the Benzos. There is another nice little drug that can fit well in there called Temazepam which is also a Benzo but a very different type. Go back and say current protocol is not working well. We need to change it. Mirtz was never meant to last all night long. That's why you are waking up and needing something else. Sometimes we have to go back every couple of weeks until they get 'our formula' perfect. On occasion, I have returned the Rx'd drug with only one night of use. It either works or not. They save them and give them to other people. Hope this helps some.Just be sure to take the Mirtaz. at bedtime. It's side effect is to help cause sleep and it is a SSRI antidepressant. Hugs~Pood
There is a large stem cell clinic in Denver, CO. They would not do something as complex as your shoulder. They use them more for people that are just starting to get joint problems. I don't think any insurance covers it yet because it is too new.
Be well~Pood
Pood, thanks for your concern. I am on 15 mg of Mirtazapine.many years ago I was on Wellbutrin which affected my sleep so I was also put on 50 mg of Trazodone. I eventually stopped the Wellbutrin but remained on the Trazodone. I would like very much to wean myself off and have talked to the psychiatrist . Yesterday he phoned me to see how I was doing as I've only been on the Mirtazapine for 1 1/2 weeks. He said that as I'm on such a low dose of Trazodone I shouldn't worry about any drug interaction and the next time we meet we can discuss weaning off the Trazodone. So far none of this has helped my sleep . I did take 1/2 mg lorazepam last night and actually slept. There has been an extraordinary amount of stress the last while with me. My sister died last week after a 6 month battle with duodenal cancer. At the same time my husband had what they are calling "drops" and was in the hospital. He has atrial fib and they feel it was the beta- blocker he's on so have changed his meds. He also has what was diagnosed by a terrible dr as having had a seizure and was put on meds, had his license revoked and caused much anxiety. I complained to the hospital as this Dr would do no further testing and I asked for a neurologist who had seen him when he had a stroke 5 years ago. He's taken over and is questioning the diagnosis. My husband is booked for a "sleep deprived" EEG in 2 weeks. Guess I'll be deprived as well! Thus, maybe you can see where I'm coming from and the stress I've been dealing with along with the side effects of that dreadful Prolia.
As to the Cleveland Clinic in Toronto, it does various injections, treatments, etc and I'm getting nowhere with referrals through the normal channels so even if I have to pay out of pocket I'm beginning to feel that this is my only option. And it's right on the subway line so easy to get to without driving through our horrendous traffic in downtown Toronto!
Hugs back.
Re: Cathy (# 2161)
Another thought( You are on my mind ).
But I hope your Mom is showing improvement.
It might be helpful to have your Mom's Calcium checked. Prolia can cause Hypocalcemia, a source of weakness and muscle spasm.
Re: Faith (# 15)
I think that your doctor is totally ignorant and obviously should not be prescribing this medication without explaining to the patient exactly what the medication is and the possible consequences of taking it. I am into my second term of the drug. I am experiencing all your symptoms. I am waiting for the time that my body is free of it
Re: Sal (# 2163)
I have taken 2 prolia shots.my side effect is some hair loss
Re: Jennifer (# 2170)
Yes Jennifer i am now using bone brotth protein and collagen. Vit k2 with vitamin d3 magnesium glycinate supplements daily. Calcium supplements constipated me badly. So i dont use them
Re: Elaine (# 2175)
There's a bit of a problem. The bone broth looks very good but I'm vegetarian so am wondering what to use in its place? I eat lots of humour and tahini and spinach etc which is great for bones. Also oily fish and one calcichew vitamin D3 chewable per day. Also walking and Pilates so I'll wait for my next bones density scan in March and see if it's improving. It's tricky but Prolia (Denosumab) has not suited me.
Re: Sal (# 2172)
Prolia absolutely causes WEAKNESS. I was damn near incapacitated for months. Had to literally sit to brush my teeth. I had 2 injections in 2015, 1 in 2016, began to feel bad in July. Then went on FMLA for 2 mos end of October. Back to work inn January because I was feeling better. I was reminded in May 2017 I had missed my 2nd injection for 2016. So, I had the Prolia injection in May 2017 and began to experience the debilitating weakness again by July along with 5 other recognized side effects listed on the Prolia site. I will NOT consent to the 2nd injection for 2017 due in November. It's been 5 months since my last shot and I am just now showing improvement (maybe 3 of 7 days weekly, but hopeful for more). I believe the improvement after 5 months is because I only had 1 shot in 2016 & 1 shot in 2017. I've read where it could be 8 months before signs of improvement, dependant on the individual. I am thankful for the exchanges on the RxChat.com site.
Re: BetseyCA (# 2177)
I agree, but that is not going to happen.
There us too much money to be made,
all we can do is be crusaders, and spread the word. I tell anybody who will listen of my experience.
Re: Sal (# 2179)
Class action lawsuit. .maybe then they will listen?..But then it will be the lawyers that make out right?
Re: Jennifer (# 2176)
I don't think the 'bone broth' would be a problem for a Vegan since you are not getting any flesh/meat. All you are getting is the marrow in the bones, be it beef bones or chicken bones. Just make sure the bones are scraped well of any flesh left on them. Preferably, I take supplements and use Calcitonin. The heart trouble with calcium was an isolated case with a male, not a female. Be well~
Re: Jennifer (# 2176)
I agree with poodle. If you buy bone broth protein the work is done for you. Ancient nutrition is the company I get mine from.
Re: Poodle (# 2181)
Hi Poodle, thanks for this. Yes, bone broth is a problem as it is from an animal, even if it is not meat it is from the bone marrow. But thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it x
Had my first shot on June 3 of this year ( also last shot). First month had muscle pain in arms, legs, neck. My neck felt like there was Velcro inside my neck.I could actually hear it crackling. My hair stared falling out about two months after shot . I think it has slowed down now. I do have emphysema and my shortness of breath was worse. Still is. Very unhappy with this drug. I'm always suspicious of relatively new drugs. I also don't like that it messes with your immune system. I should have done more research beforehand.
I have been receiving Prolia injections for several years now with no side effects. I have been feeling pain in my thigh now for a few months and have now found from a total body bone scan that I have depleted bone mass in my femur and I am in serious danger of having a fracture in this bone. Surgeon will not pin the bone unless it is broken. I am now waiting to see an endocrinologist to be given a drug therapy to rebuild this bone mass which will take quite some time to rebuild. My doctor has had two other patients who have actually fractured their femur caused by the depletion of bone mass caused by Prolia injections. Is it common for this to happen? Will this new treatment work for me?
Re: Kayleen (# 2186)
The only good thing I can say is if it does break, there is a class action suit against Amgen for that particular injury. You are only the second person on this Forum to have or potentially have this specific problem. The previous lady was in Canada. It can and will snap in two for no known reason - just one normal step and that's all it takes. I sincerely hope they are able to help you but if not, know that you can go against Amgen. I don't know the specifics on damages. That is one reason under side effects, it says if you feel a pain around your hip, go to your Dr. or the ER immediately. If you cannot find that attorney yourself, let me know. Be well~
