Prolia Side Effects (Page 133)

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Took my first shot in September. No side effects at all.
I am so sorry for you and your Dad. My mother with dementia was given an inj. 1 month ago and hasn't been well since. Pain in bones and muscles, nausea and vomiting but the worst of all is her rapid increasing confusion. All medical professionals involved deny that Prolia could have caused any of this despite the fact that these are known and listed side effects. Although my mother did have moderate dementia before the injection she has declined rapidly. She can barely walk now as well. I can only hope that she will make it until this drug is out of her system.
Yes, please report this to FDA!
I took my first shot in September and no side effects (thank goodness).
So very sorry for your father !!! I am just now feeling somewhat better from my last injection its been 12 months . I also got flu like symptoms and have been on oxyagen since . Six more months and it will be out of my system and cannot wait .
My dad received his 1st Prolia inj. August 18th. Started having weakness and stumbling, fell on August 23rd. He's 81. (Him and mom lived at home.) Went to the emergency room and ended up in the hospital for 10 days. He broke his pelvic bone and elbow. Ended up with these side effects from Prolia~~Severe Cellulitis in the arm with the broken elbow, severe ear ache (that the doctors couldn't figure out why), seemed like he had a severe case of the flu to the point we didn't think he'd make it through the nite, severe wrist pain (they did xrays to see if there was a break and there was not), tightness in chest and shortness of breath, ulcer looking spot on his heel (12 days after the shot which doctors couldn't figure out what this was also did xrays to see if he had stepped on something that was lodged in there but there was nothing), he has lost over 15 pounds, is constipated and needed help for that, he is now in a nursing home doing physical and occupational therapy but is so weak and can barely walk with a walker. He also has had a cough for 3 weeks and just aches in so many places, neck, arms, legs. The doctors in our area are either NOT informed or MISINFORMED about Prolia as I can see all of the complaints here on this site. They just could seem to explain all of this in my dad so when I decided to look up Prolia, I think this is at least part if not all of what is causing so many new and lingering problems for my dad. I'm trying to get info out of my mom as far as what his blood calcium level was before he received this inj. and how much calcium dad was put on but she hasn't shared this info with me as I think the doctor didn't check his calcium level and probably didn't realize he needed to put dad on calcium supplements or Vitamin D supplement and mom doesn't want to "make waves" with the doctor as many elderly patients feel and she doesn't like me to go to appts with them. This day in age, you can't be scared to tell doctors you aren't going to take all the meds they prescribe until you research them first especially when it's such a harsh drug as 2 inj's. a year. I've called Amgen twice and those people are trained to turn your story around and make it sound like the patient had the side effects before the inj. They interrupt the conversation and almost seem High pressuring. They won't give you a straight answer unless you get very very stern with them. I will call the FDA on Monday to report all of this. I just hope they listen and I hope real soon they'll take this drug off the market. It is NO good as far as I can see. I wish every doctor that has seen my dad, especially the prescribing doctor, would try just 1 inj. of this and see what happens to them. After all, my dad went to his doctor with aching hips and joints which our family knows for him is the beginning of being dehydrated but the doctor refuses to want to send dad to the hospital each time this happens and gives my folks something totally different as a reason and this time it was Osteoporosis that was causing the hip pain according to him. The doctor was getting approval for the Prolia inj. from dad's insurance. While waiting, Dad ended up in the hospital 4 days after seeing the doctor for severe dehydration, recieved 7 units of IV fluids, was in the hospital for 3 days and his hips and joints quit hurting. I don't think at 81 that dad should be starting to be treated with such a harsh drug as Prolia for Osteoporosis when he's not been treated for it all his life when his real reason for the doctor's appt was being dehydrated. So sick that he received this inj. Please call the FDA if you have problems. We need to get this off the market.
I too had bad side effect from 1st injection, don't do it! But if you have not already
tried the Forteo Injections then I do recommend them. It is 2-year program, that
you do at home yourself every day. Boosted my Bone Density back into normal range with no side effects. Make sure also you are using an MD who is familiar and experienced with Osteoporosis. I found Rheumatologist who was only one that had some experience. Even after the Forteo tho' when Prolia came out he and recommended it. Just was not for me. Please make sure you report any bad side effects from any medications!
I am not a health professional by any means, but I would advise you not to take this drug. Have you read all the prior postings? Enough to scare you. I used to take Actonal and then switched to Fosamax. Neither one helped my osteoporosis. I was referred to a specialist since my osteoporosis had gotten worse and he recommended I start on Prolia. I asked my GP about it and he said NOT to take this drug. Not enough is known about it. It's still relatively new. I felt much better after speaking with him about it. Reading these postings is enough to scare me to death to try it. Too many possible side effects. Do the research. The doctor who wanted me to start on Prolia handed me a brochure and said "don't read about the possible side effects". So, of course, that's what I read. I'm not taking this drug ever.
I got my first injection. No side effects so far.
I've had 3 shots next one in jan few side effects 2nd injection but all managed feel best I've felt for years, 47 years suffered last 7 but this d best .. On new tablet for last month & doing great, hope this helps.. Xxx
I would research it and then research it some more. I had my first injection on 6/19/2013. 9 days later had to go to hospital. Severe pain in my ribs. hard time breathing. I suffer from insomnia, severe pain in legs and back, no appetite. i am 5'7 and weighed 135. I lost down to 113, which is very bad for someone my height. So research this drug before making your decision.
Dear All: Please do not start on Prolia, Foxamal or any other of the osteoporosis meds. For the past years I have gone through many of the expected side effects, but today I had to visit the OralMaxilloFacial Surgeon as a sore in my mouth has developed into a necrotic spot. Today I had been officially diagnosed with ONJ, Osteo Necrosis of the Jaw which is drug-induced. This is a horrible drug. Several months ago, I had intense jaw pain and now this. For those of you new to this site, I have been sharing many of my side effects. Before you decide to start on this medicine, please read all of the contributions in this chat room.
Good luck!

My doctor wants me to start Prolia and I am very concerned about the side effects of this drug. Can anyone help me with the concerns
My mother is 88 years old and she is at her 3rd shot of Prolia. No side effects until today. She will take her 4th and last one shot in January 2015. This is what her endocrinologist advise her to do for 2 years. She also take calcium and eat lots of green leafs. Before Prolia she was taken Boniva for several years. I read all the comments and I think that she was luck. Good luck to all of you in your future treatments.
I will not take this shot again. I itchy all over and now I am getting hives. I am only into my third week. Who know what will be next?

Tina , not sure if oxygen chamber available in your area but my dentist told me this is only way to reverse effects of prolia . Its been 10 months since my second injection and I am just now starting to feel like myself again . Thank God horrible mouth pain is gone and I still have my teeth . Good Luck !
algaecal may be a good resource. Granted, they are promoting their own products but that does not mean the information they produce on osteoclasts and osteoblasts can not be verified. This info could provide a good starting point from which to dig deeper into the efficacy of this product.
Hi Tina
That is awful, I've had my 3rd last month & must say I feel wonderful, after my 2nd had serious reactions etc, but managed to get prepared correctly for 3rd, increased calcium etc, diet etc etc, I feel fantastic just tired but not really putting too much into that as life is quite hectic for me right now! I do hope u will b ok, I've chronic osteoporosis, iv started to walk a little too, which I could not manage before! Reggie x
