Prolia Issues And Side Effects (Page 3)

Updated

I am not going to have my next shot of Prolia due 11 June. I have already had two injections and lately have suffered horrible side effects such as terrible constipation, leg and foot cramps, skin rashes, stomach pain, etc.

I also found out that Prolia works by stopping the body's own bone production, causing old bone to become denser. This results in probable fractures due to old brittle bones, Prolia also causes low calcium levels in the blood, a weird side effect seeing it is supposed?to strengthen boned!

I had improvement in bone density but question if the side effects are worth it - these new biologicals haven’t been around long enough to prove they are safe

Well said, Anni. It is like remodeling a house on a cracked foundation. Eventually the remodeling will fail.

Re: Sal (# 40) Expand Referenced Message

I'm afraid to take it because so many people have the same problems you had. Of course the drs say without it you could end up in wheelchair so they scare you.
I'm sure they believe this but I'm not sure I do. Thanks for your post.

I'm so grateful for all these posts. I'm going to follow my hunches and not take Prolia. Perhaps try something else that may have less awful side affects. Anybody take anything else that works?

Re: Gracie (# 44) Expand Referenced Message

That is wise. Even if we don't suffer side effects, there is still a chance for fractures, serious dental issues, etc.

It was when I found out that I had spinal fractures that I became frightened and vulnerable, agreeing to take it.

I am treating myself naturally ( see previous Post ). I am not yet due for a DEXA scan, but blood tests indicate that my markers for bone loss are now down.

Re: Gracie (# 39) Expand Referenced Message

I had dental issues and Prolia made them so much worse.. and with Prolia, can't do extractions because it's very difficult for jaw bone to heal afterwards per my specialist... so wait until minimum of 3 years... unless you have abscess and need extraction for health reason. Others have done dental work sooner~ I'd assume we are all a bit different but with my tract record, I'll be extra cautious and wait... if I can. My teeth have been so loose with my overall body weakness post Prolia but doing better bit by bit...

Re: Gracie (# 39) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Gracie,
I was on Prolia a year-and-a-half and the bone density test showed very slight improvement. That was what finally got the doctor to get me off of the Prolia.

Hugs,
Nikki

That's a very good comment and they all seem to have the same end results from the commercials on TV. I fail to understand our drug industry at this time. Biologics for everything including acne. No Thank You!

Re: Poodle (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

Annie and Poodle, in Australia we have the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), part of the Commonwealth Health Department. They have a database of adverse events. Up to September 2017 there have been 480 reports of adverse events relating to Prolia. You probably know this by now, but the whole Prolia thing is fairly new to me. Unfortunately, I am becoming intimately acquainted with Prolia and its dreadful side-effects.

Re: Linda (# 32) Expand Referenced Message

I already had some hair loss from current meds I'm on. Taking the Prolia hasn't helped. Praying I can get my body into balance better this year.

Hugs to all!

Re: Linda (# 22) Expand Referenced Message

Same thing happened to me three months after my first injection.i researched a study before the shot that cited many people stopped taking the drug due to constipation. When I discussed it with my doctor he said none of his patients suffered from that. I exercise daily, drink pleanty of water and fiber. Nothing short of a stimulant has worked

Re: Sharon (# 53) Expand Referenced Message

Calcium Citrate is what my GI system can tolerate. There have been reports recently that show the bone supplements ineffective,. so now I don't know what to do. Collegen. An anti inflammatory diet, exercises,Yoga, an at home program called TTAPP

Re: Sodapop (# 52) Expand Referenced Message

It seems to be a common response: "None of my other patients have complained of that". I find it to believe that we are the only ones! Perhaps they are not listening, or perhaps they don't take us seriously. When U complained that my body felt like a block of cement, I was told it was just my Fibromyalgia. 3 doctors later, when someone actually listened to me, it turned out that I had HypoCalcemia...a KNOWN side effect! Was I angry!

Re: Anni (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I don't believe the FDA is interested in anyone's misery.

I too am a chronic pain sufferer, and Prolia only increased my misery too.

Never will I take another dose of Prolia or any other drug.

Which bone supplements and what research shows them to be ineffective? People I know take Strontium Citrate and find it builds bone over time. Was this supplement included in that paper?

I have decided not to take any of the drugs, including and especially Prolia for my Osteoporosis. I will not take a chance on the terrible side effects, not just as reported here but what I've personally witnessed from friends and co-workers. I think the cover-up by the FDA is a disgrace, my own doctor wasn't aware of how serious things were til her patients started telling her.
