Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 19)

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?
It has been 2 years since I had the second Prolia injection and my hair is not growing normally. It used to be almost to my waist in back and now it doesn't even touch the top of my bra closure in back. The only plus AT ALL is that I don't have to color it for almost 10 weeks...before Prolia I colored it every 6 or 7. It's still falling out, very thin and so broken off at the crown in back. I think that stuff makes permanent changes. I know they say you only take it for about 3 years. Also, my hearing has never fully recovered from a virus I got after the first shot. Everyone had this virus...the flu shot was not effective in 2015. My daughter and others also had ear infections with it, but my hearing was nearly gone in both ears for 3 months and then returned partially. I wear hearing aids now. I am not positive it was the Prolia, but I'm concerned it might have made it more severe than others who did not have the shot...because it does weaken the immune system.
Thanks for your reply. How long were you on Prolia? I am assuming it is several years? You were extremely lucky to have a reversal from Osteoporosis to Osteopenia. Congratulations! I am seeing my doctor soon and will discuss my hair loss.
I had 5 prolia injections so far and my hair has been falling. I actually have half of my hair left, the good news is once your treatment is completed your hair grows back. I am happy to report that I went from Osteoporosis to Osteopinia. Prior to Prolia I also had stress fractures, not anymore.
I have been experiencing hair loss too. I have also taken Prolia twice. Can this just be coincidence?
This side effect has been kept very silent and I would think that there should be some kind of legal suit brought against these doctors and drug companies.
Had first Prolia shot 5 weeks ago & I am also shedding like dog, having horrible hot flashes, blurred vision and mussel aching! I'm 70 and felt really good before Prolia!! I will NOT be getting another one!! Bad drug that should be taken off the market!! Maybe for someone who sits home happily doing nothing could stand it but NOT ME!!
Everyone Stop right now. Consider the fact that Prolia has a twin called Xgeva. There is just less of the active ingredient in Prolia than Xgeva which treats cancer. What happens to people that go thru chemo? They lose their hair, all of it. With Prolia, we don't lose all of it, just a goodly amount of thinning. I am many years out from my one and only Prolia injection but I am still shedding like a dog. Today when I took a shower my hair had the drain plugged up. I gathered it all up and am taking it to my Primary. It is true that after age 20, hair starts to thin but there is a huge difference to what Prolia does and 'normal' thinning. Mine is short and I use 4 handfuls of Mousse to make it look thicker. When that wears off, I use another product for natural curly hair. You have to get inventive to please yourself somewhat. Hope this explains the situation everyone is going thru. Be well~Pood
This is my third year on Prolia, and I have to say I went from Osteosporosis to Osteophinia, which is a big improvement. However my hair keeps on falling out, and the hair I have is very thin. I only have a choice: Healthy bones or Healthy hair? I guess I am choosing healthy bones, it's easier to buy a wig, than repair my bones.
I asked about hair breakage and slow growth. I had two shots of Prolia. I think March 2015 was the last. I stopped it because I thought it affected my immune system which I concluded after I had a virus that included a severe ear infection...both ears...with substantial hearing loss...which never fully resolved. I have noticed my hair is broken off and thinning and brittle. It also grows much slower. I am 69 so I thought it was age related, but it could be the Prolia...it has not improved in 2 years.
I have had 3 Prolia shots over the last 2 years. Each time I have had major hair loss. I did skip 6 months without a shot just to see if my hair quit falling out and it did. I do not know why this is not listed as a side effect for women but I will not take another shot..or I will be bald.
Well, I have to say after my second year in Prolia my hair is half gone. My bone density is better I went from Osteosporosis to Osteopinia, but I have loss almost half of my hair. I still have a year and half, so I will let you know at the end of my treatment. I rather have my bones strong than hair on my head.
Yes I had my 3 shot, and yes my hair breaks and it's thinner. No more shots for me.
I had Prolia twice in 2015 and my hair is broken off and thinning. It's not growing much either. I had long hair, but I may need to cut it. I stopped Prolia because I was sick a lot that year. I had a terrible ear infection and my hearing in both ears has never been the same. My cousin has been advised to take Prolia and I have strongly told her It's a bad idea. The effects do not go away after stopping.
The information on the Prolia leaflet does not mention hair loss. HMMM, that would be because every woman would stop getting that very expensive shot, that after 4 years the bone scan showed no improvement.
have been on Prolia for around two years and have suffered great hair loss.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU I WILL NOT START PROLIA!! I am grateful for all of your inputs.
Had my 3prolia shot 2 months ago and my hair is thinking and falling will not have my 4 shot in October no way .
I must tell everyone that I refused my second injection. This was my doctor's comment:"Well, you know all drugs have side-effects!" My answer, "Yes, but I am not going to end up bald and there is NOTHING that tells users of hair loss." SO-O-o, I'm to go back in one year. BTW, I'm almost 80, so I might not need that one. He was not so pleased with me, but, who cares. He did tell me there is a NEW MED coming out in 2018. He will look at that for me. I will always be so thankful for this website. I had the itching everywhere, TMJ, and hair loss. My legs and ankles stay swelled. But, I thank all of you for helping me.
Had first shot in November 2016 and I had nausea and was extremely exhausted for about 4 weeks. Around January I started notiving losing more hair than usual. My husband and friends noticed. I was feeling depressed my hair was a ugly mess. I did some reading started using Nixon and my hair is starting to grow in some. I called my doctor to cancel my next appt. For Prolia shot. I explained my reasons and they didn't seem interested since I didn't want the shot. Really !! Its all about the money I guess. I did say I was going to try Boniva again and they more or less said PCP can handle that. Wow made me feel just wonderful after the ordeal taking this drug.
I had my first (& last) shot of Prolia in February 2017. I had terrible bone & joint pain for about 3 weeks, could not sleep well. A month ago I started itching terribly behind my knees & on my back, & my skin had bumps. I noticed a thin spot at my hairline about the same time; my hair started falling out this month & this week I see a lot of breakage. I also see it can cause cataracts & high cholesterol, both of which I already have. NOWHERE does Amgen mention hair loss. It is also really expensive; what a shock to receive a bill for my pricey co-pay when all I was told was that my insurance company had been contacted & approved it. I am not continuing with this medication.
