Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 15)

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?
Re: Sad Lady (# 189)
Fosamax and Prolia are the same, my wife had the Fosamax first then the Prolia,,,after 6 months its wearing off, and we are now on just 5K UI vitamin D and Calcium.
Re: beasy (# 186)
I have told the hospital that I will not have another injection of Prolia .The side effects were too bad to continue. They have suggested Fosomax but I am nervous as there is also a long list of side effects. I am meeting with the Specialist and will inform him of the hair loss so that he can record it. I will need to have a bone scan in due course and will report back the findings. No fractures for one year now.
Re: Sad lady (# 185)
I suffered terrible hair loss from Prolia. I feel we were not told the truth about the side effects because hair loss is not mentioned anywhere in the literature. I wish there was a legal suit because I would be a part of it. So not right to do this to consumers.
Re: beasy (# 186)
Due for my next bone density test. Will let you know how it goes. Do have pain In several parts of my body, but not severe enough to take this horrible shot again.
Re: Barbra (# 5)
Did you stop the Prolia after the first injection? If so, did you experience the rebound effect, producing less bone density than before taking the Prolia? Also, have you experienced any spinal fractures since then? Many thanks for sharing and I hope that you are doing well.
Re: Sunshine (# 184)
I too had my first Prolia shot at the end of July and since then have lost over half of my head of hair. It falls out everywhere, also terrible vertigo, headaches and itchy scalp. I wish I had seen the side effect list or had found this site before I had the injection. No more for me as hair loss is so distressing, being bald frightens me. I cannot stop thinking about it as hair is falling out around me all the time. I also have had 9 fractures of the spine so really need some form of treatment. Amgen have a lot to feel guilty about by not disclosing the hair loss side effects and hopefully this will be remedied if enough people complain.
Re: Faye (# 180)
I'm only 56 yrs old my hair loss didn't start until i received my 1 and only injection on top of when i lay on my side get bad vertigo, spasums in my feet, hands hurt horribly, pain is worse.
Body jerks, etc. I have 10 compression fractures severe osteoporosis and i could go on. My hair used to be thick and healthy now i wear a wig when I'm up to it. Good luck and God bless
Re: Sandra (# 182)
You need to go to a Dermatologist so they can check your hair follicles. If they are open, they are capable of making new hair, but if they are closed shut, then no hair can ever grow there again. Prolia has been proven to cause A. Alopecia in a male whose DNA tested it to be impossible. I put up a list of three ingredients for you to take IF your hair follicles are open. This is something most of us have who have had even with one shot of Prolia. Be well~
Hi. in reply to your post. I am 77 years old and am now in my second year of Prolia twice yearly injections. In the last two months I have started shedding my hair which is very upsetting and it doesn't appear to be slowing down, I guess that I have lost at least half of my hair in two months, it is scary. I am told that there is no reversal treatment that doesn't have even worse side effects.
Yes i just bought my first wig. 2nd injection due in November and i don't no what to do.
Been on Prolia for 3 years, still slowly losing hair. My doctor says it's not the Prolia. I really question that.
Also, I have not made any real improvement in my bones, but they aren't getting worse. Anyone else like this?
Re: Karen (# 166)
My Doctor still believes my hair loss to be 'old age' even tho I had not lost any prior to Prolia. They just don't want to face the facts and until all of us report this issue to the FDA or whatever governing body of your particular country, Prolia will continue its toll on our hair. I can make mine look very nice with a good four handfuls of mousse to make each strand about 20 times larger and then put on an other product on top of that. It's barely enough to satisfy my 'vain self' as Diana O. wrote. I know I am guilty of not reporting mine to the FDA and I promise I will do so. Hugs~
Yes, many of us...most of us report hair loss and breakage. I had really nice long hair and now it is thin and barely starting to grow again. I had my last Prolia shot in March 2015 so this problem does not stop as soon as you quit the medication. I guess the hair loss is because it is partly a chemo drug Xgeva...which I did not know until it was too late. I had more colds and flu while taking that drug as it weakens your immune system. I told my doctor I just could not continue taking it and would risk bone fractures. Good luck to you.
I've just had my second Prolia shot and my hair is falling out by the handful, also what's left is limp and lifeless. I hadn't thought of it being the cause until a few days ago. Now have to wait over 5 months for it to leave my system. I'm depressed over it. It'll be a long few months waiting for it to leave my system. For sure won't go for another injection. Please everyone take with caution if it's recommended that you take it. It's not listed as one of the side affects.
Re: Goatc (# 175)
I had many shots and there was never any good results from the shots. The hair loss has not stopped yet and the last shot was 9 months ago.
I have had hair loss. In my 4th now only hoping as it dissipates from my system it will go away.
Re: Shirley (# 17)
Hi Shirley,
My hair has been falling out, and you are probably right, I had one injection of prolia and I will never do that again. My hair used to be nice and lots more of it now it is very thin and when I hold my hair it is like half of it is missing. This company should state that it can cause hair loss. All these people including myself should sign something to have this company compensate for the hell it put us through.
Re: Hurting (# 172)
I have posted before on all of the problems I have had with this shot. I also was on Fosamax and discontinued use because of terrible leg pain. Hair loss has now improved and I did not get my last shot and I will not get another. The hair loss tool too long to slow down after discontinued use. There wasn't one change in all three of my bone scans over the past 11 years. Do what you need to do ladies.
I had my first injection and I have noticed hair loss also .My legs have really been hurting and I never had problems with my legs until now .
The process is well described in the Wikipedia link I posted last week, as well as both uses. Denosumab stops the formation of osteoclasts, which are cells that remove old bone cells. The definition of chemotherapy is any chemical that is used to treat cancer. A clear conclusion can be drawn from that. Denosumab, in the higher dosage of 120 mg, is named Xgeva, & is used in treating a form of cancer. Denosumab in the 60 mg dosage is Prolia. Same drug. As mentioned in a couple of posts by others, billed & identified as chemo by the medical industry. The inj's. are normally given in the infusion center, where cancer patients are treated with chemo, because of the nature of the medication. My doctor's office told me they are not permitted to give the inj's., patients can only receive them in the infusion center. I would guess that's industry wide, but I don't know. The important thing is that this side effect is being reported by more people, which I hope will lead to Amgen acknowledging ALL the side effects & informing patients. What big pharma gets away with, at our expense!
