52 REPLIES UpdatedIs there a generic: any different from Prilosec, what does it do? ## Omeprazole is the generic for Prilosec and it's sold over the counter, no doctor needed. It is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks gastric acid secretions--acid reflux or GERD. ## Some insurances will cover it though so you should always have the doctor write the scripts for any over the counter medications and the pharmacy will try to put it thru your insurance. Mine covers omeprazole. my Zyrtec . Ibuprofen so if you dont try every med how will you know right ## You can learn more about Prilosec here. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, stomach pain, gas, and headache.

As of yet the closest thing I've seen here is an oblong light purple pill with a capital "P" sitting on top of a horizontal line "_". The other side is blank. Turns out that this is an OTC Prilosec tablet used for treating heartburn. What shape is the pill that you're describing (round, oblong, capsule, etc)? 2 REPLIES Updatedwill Prilosec show up positive for THC on a UA drug test ## No. Prilosec is not going to show up as anything. Theres no way possible as it is an acid reducer...nothing in it can show up positive for any drug. ## It actually can cause a false positive for THC on a urine drug screen, even the package insert from the manufacture indicates it can cause false positives for THC, marijuana. They would generally then send it for further testing if that was the case though to rule out a "false positive" with a more sophisticated test.
2 REPLIES UpdatedHello, I'm a nurse and suffer with heartburn. I'm about to change jobs which means the common drug urinalysis. I remembered that prilosec commonly shows UP as THC so I took a home test from Walmart and i am positive. I took the Prilosec OTC for a month and a half. And bedore that a month of nexium. 4 REPLIES UpdatedI had my first iron infusion on Monday (it is now Sunday) as I am severely iron deficient. I was not informed that there would be any side effects by my doctor or hematologist. Since Monday I have been bedridden with the worst migraines, chronic nausea, shoulder and neck muscle spasms, loss of appetitive, heightened sense of smell which in turn makes me vomit a lot, no energy, swollen glands, the feeling that something is crawling under my skin, itchiness, irritability, needing to urinate excessively, clammy mouth and sore joints. Is this normal? I've been to the doctor and he just gave me anti nausea medication which hasn't worked. I'm freaking out. I've just wasted a whole week in bed and still feel awful. ## Everything you've described are listed as possible side ...

4 REPLIES UpdatedI want to know what this cream is for and if there is any side effects ## Hi Lisa, Do you happen to know the full drug names that correspond to each abbreviation? There are so many possible names that come up that I wouldn't want to risk steering you in the wrong direction. Prilosec, Gabapentin, Fluoxetine, and Levofloxacin (or) Levothyroxine are just a few names that come to mind, but I'm not sure if these would all be compounded together in a cream. Please post back if you have any other specific details regarding their actual names and then I can help you take it from there as far as indications and side effects are concerned.
1 REPLY UpdatedI am wondering if this capsule brown white, Lilly 3250 80mg mg if this is a prilosec? ## Hello, Pete! How are you? No, this is an 80mg Strattera capsule, which contains the active ingredient Atomoxetine. It is most commonly used to treat ADHD. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and anorexia. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedThe last time I purchased Prilosec at my grocery store the color was purple instead of the pick I am used to seeing. It also seems to taste different. Has there been a change or should I be concerned about these new colored pills? ## Hi Cheryl, The color of a medication doesn't usually have anything to do with its formulation. This one could possibly be from a different manufacturer, or flavored. As long as it contains the same amount of ingredients as the last one you had, you should be just fine. If it really concerns you, you can always ask your doctor or a pharmacist. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Prilosec Details I hope this helps, please post back if you need further assistance! ## My dad's prilosec pills are purple. I buy him the wildberry flavored co...
2 REPLIES Updated7 years ago I had severe diarrhea and one of the tests I had was an upper GI endoscopy. It was done by a general surgeon because there isn't a gastro near by. He said I had a hiatal hernia and told me to take prilosec by Rx at that time. I finally got into a gastro and she said oh no don't take that it causes diarrhea. At the time I also had awful pain and bloating. It turns out I am intolerant to fructose so that problem was solved. Meanwhile she put me on Nexium. I took that for several years and then I started reading about the bone problems. So I put myself on Ranitidine. My reflux has gotten ever so much worse in the past few years. Swallowing issues sent me to my family MD. He made an appointment with the general surgeon (different one) The very first thing he did was writ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedMy son was taking prilosec and Allegra prescribed by the same dr. He was overdosed. It caused him to seize and they had to run test on him afterwards . his regular dr said they were giving him too much. This was about3 years ago. Now I was prescribed it by my dr. When I take it regularly my feet and ankles hurt like crazy. But the back pain is so much worse. After being off of it for awhile my back and ankles completely stop hurting at all. Now I remember my son always complained about his back and ankles killing him all the time. It was the medicine. He was only 13 at the time. And the drs are like he is fine. Its probably growing pains. But I know it wasn't its doing the same thing to me. And it also made my acid sooo much worse now. I actually throw up stomach acid now. I am so m...
1 REPLY UpdatedMy baby passed away and I was pregnant and taking prilosec through my whole pregnancy ## Hello, Bee! How are you doing? So very sorry about your loss! Was your doctor aware that you were taking it? Learn more Omeprazole details here. Animal studies have shown some evidence of fetal risk, but there have been no studies in humans. It is actually used, in some cases, to prevent the development of a health disorder during pregnancy and delivery, but it is recommend that it only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. ## Yes I told him before they did xrays and prescribed it to me I even told my obgyn
2 REPLIES Updatedorange oblong caplet with a p underlined is all this caplet has on it. ## Hi Tammy, Based on my research, the oblong, orange capsule-shaped pill you have is identified as over-the-counter Prilosec (omeprazole) 20mg. Manufacturer: AstraZeneca This medication is used to treat heartburn, stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), as well as other conditions that may cause your stomach to make too much acid. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Omeprazole Details I hope this helps!
1 REPLY UpdatedHow many tablets of Omepron are recommended per day and what is the best time of day for taking this medicine? Also, should it be taken before or after meals? ## This appears to be an overseas equivalent of Prilosec OTC - one tablet, once a day, anytime - at the same time every day.
1 REPLY UpdatedI took a generic drug store drug (omper) instead of Prilosec. When I eat food the first taste is fine but then when the food hits the back of my mouth it tastes awful. Has anyon had any side effects from the generic drug for Prilosec? ## I can't really tell you anything about it, without knowing who the manufacturer is, but it could be that there was a different filler/inactive ingredient that caused the problem. Only the active ingredient has to be the same, not the items that are considered inactive. Do you still have the packaging? ## you are suppose to take it on an empty stomach and wait 30 mins before you eat.
2 REPLIES UpdatedDoes Prilosec interfere with the effectiveness of Nitrofur-macr because of the ingredient magnesium searate? ## Hi Janie, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Nitro Macro (Nitrofurantoin) and Prilosec (Omeprazole). This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. With that said, because I am not a doctor, the most I can tell you is that from what I've read, these two medications are regarded as being safe to take together and shouldn't present any problems outside of the normal side effects associated with each medication. Have either of these medications not been working as well?
1 REPLY UpdatedPrilosec literally saved my life. I have two kinds of kidney disease, both types of renal failure. They had me on 60mg of prednisone, 3 times a day. Lipitor, Lasix, hyroclorothiazide, and a whole slew of blood thinners. And I couldn't keep any of it down. I was dying at age 15. My parents were terrified. We bought a packet of Prilosec thinking "What have we got to loose?" I stopped throwing up. I kept a little food down. As soon as I started keeping it down, my skin got brighter. My eyes weren't fogged over. By day two, my medicine started working. By day three I had started to lose all the water. I peed out 80lbs of water in a week, by urine was trace for protein, and I started building up muscle mass. I am now 20 years old. I still need a kidney, and the hospitals pret...
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been taking Zegrid for about 6 months which seems to be more effective than the Prilosec I was previously taking. The medicine is expensive and if I could get a prescription for similar medication, it would be less expensive with my co-pay. Any suggestions? ## It contains the active ingredient Omeprazole, which is available in generics and name brands both over the counter and by prescription, but it has the same active ingredient as the Prilosec. Is there anything else I can help with?
