Prepopik Laxative (Page 7) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHas anyone in the US used this yet for colonscopy and what did it cost?
I used Pico-Salax(Canadian version made by same pharmaceutical company) for my colonoscopy prep since Prepopik was so expensive. During the prep I was concerned because it was so simple, painless, and not uncomfortable and it seemed as though I was not on the throne as often as when I used the horrible Saline Solution;. However it worked perfectly, the doctor confirmed I was very clean and the procedure went excellently. I was so thrilled I actually called friends that if they were going for a colonoscopy INSIST on using the Pico-Salax
It cost me $47 and it was much easier to take then the ones I used before, reason being that it was a very small amount to have to drink. Having said that the stuff DID NOT WORK well enough to get the colonoscopy. What a waste of money and time!
Get a kick out of prep kits. The chemical ingredients total in cost of <$1.00, but some kits are over $100. Notice how readily the doctors prescribe the expensive kits, kickbacks are alive and well in the medical practice.
Had procedure for the first time at 7am this morning--started Prepopik at 4pm--started working around 6pm--walking around helps--keep hydrated--next packet at 9pm--up till about midnight but was okay until I woke up at 5am--easy procedure--insurance covered my cost of it so can't help with that---everyone needs to understand that bodies react differently--in my opinion it wasn't bad
I have ben reading other posts here and am reading people are having bad side affects.
I guess everyone is different. Last year I had my 4th colonoscopy (swore the other preps would kill me and did not want to ever have another colonoscopy) I bit the bullet and asked if there was any prep better then the old ones I took in the past. Doc. said yes and gave me a free coupon for Preopik I could use at my local CVS. CVS said the prep was around $90.00 out of pocket. CVS honored my free coupon. The prep was the best for me. When taking the first dose it took a few hours to work but it kicked in..NO doubled over cramps, cold chills, nausea, flu like feeling for this prep. The only thing I regretted is that I did not start the prep earlier in the day I waited until 3:00 afternoon and was still on the toilet until after midnight. I was tired when i was done. If I ever needed another Colonoscopy I would opt for the Preopik again.
my prepopik was free. It tastes like a lemony Tang. I didn't have to poop until about 4 hrs, but then whoo!
Thanks for all the info, so helpful! B/c I learned from you, I'm paying it forward. This was my first colonoscopy; 52 yo female. I took my first dose of Prepopik (cranberry flavor, yum) at 2:30 pm. Tick tock, nothing happened for hours and hours. I ate green jello, ate yellow Popsicles and drank 8 8-ounce cups of approved liquids. Kept drinking hoping that would induce "movement." :0)
At 9:00 pm, I called the on-call dr. (who happened to be my dr.) and he said go ahead and take dose 2 then instead of waiting until the morning. Was supposed to take it at 4:00 am. Appointment was at 9:15 am.
At 10:30 pm, I finally had "movement!" Glad b/c I wanted to get this over with! Went 6 more times on and off until about 2:30 am. The first visit was for 45 minutes; subsequent visits were 5-15 minutes each.
Went a few more times at home the morning of the procedure. My urge to go wasn't too urgent or scary at all.
On a scale of 1-10, I dreaded this at a level 9. In reality, the prep was a level 2. Prep was not nearly as bad as I expected. As advised, I used aloe moist wipes and cream.
I got a great report-no polyps, no nothing. Thank you Lord! Doctor said I was cleaned out very well. The friend who took me could not get over the fact that I was allowed to eat breakfast and lunch the day before my procedure with Prepopik. My dr. has a regimen to follow including low fiber diet three days before.
There's a Prepopik app but I didn't download it. Kept up with my info on paper. It wasn't ANYTHING as bad as I expected and I'm so glad to have it behind me. ;0)
I used prepopik and had extreme nausea and abdominal pain for the entire night right up to the colonoscopy. It was so painful to drink because it gave me such nausea. To the person who asked about being petite- I weigh 97 pounds and I couldn't finish the prep because I was too nausious so I left out an ounce and a half and doctor said that I was cleaned out excellently. Also my insurance covered basicly all of the cost.
I am 19 years old and was prescribed Prepopik. This is my first colonoscopy due to health issues, but I honestly really did not like it. I am not much of a citrus person so the taste made me gag. I am sure Prepopik is better than many other solutions and at my Pharmacy it only cost $40.
No I have never had any other preps before. Although they are most likely nasty. I thought the prepopik was nasty I'm not a fan of orange flavor anything but mostly I didn't like this stuff because it had me very sick bad stomach cramps and couldn't stop vomiting . It was not a good experience for me and would never do this again
Felt very dehydrated at the end of the process even though I drank more liquid than suggested. Had kidney pain and pain in the liver by midnight with a very restless night. I would not recommend this product, I felt it was too extreme.
Anybody use this before a surgery. I am scheduled for 7:30 be there at 5:30. looks like i would be up all nite. does it really clean out well enough for surgery?
Mine was similar but I drank a ton of liquids the day before I started prepopik. Keep drinking fluids. I think you'll be surprised. It won't be an all night thing. Good luck today
My procedure was in the afternoon so different timing but since the first dose seemed to be working slowly I added 2 Dulcolax. For anyone that thinks this taste bad or is too extreme as one poster said they have never had any of the others.
The prepopik (I can't believe they paid a bunch of money to someone and that was the name they came up with) went down easy. Only 5 ounces and it barely has any taste or weird consistency to it.It's been about 2 hours since the first dose and I'm still waiting for it to "work".
I can't remember the name of the stuff I had to use last time. I couldn't hold it down - and there was about a gallon of it! I ended up not getting cleaned out well.
It appears sthe manufacturer is private and not a publicly traded company.
Ok. 2-1/2 hours and then - like a cannon. And it was over in a few minutes.
I do think it takes longer to kick in. I have a slow system so maybe that was why but I will use the dulcolax again. My procedures are in afternoon so I have time. I really don't plan to have another since I will be over 80 by then.
Had my 4th colonoscopy today. Used prepopik and it was by far the best and easiest to use. I took my first dose at noon followed by the fluids I had to drink. Started working an hour later. Only went a few times. Second dose at 6pm and again about an hour later started working. Only went 5 times and went to bed around 10pm. Woke up in morning went 2 more times. I thought it didn't clean me out enough but my doctor said it did it's job. It is much better than moviprep or go lightly. I would highly recommend this over the others. Taste wasn't bad and it's only 5 ounces. Very good product.
I had my first ever colonoscopy yesterday. I took the first dose on Monday at 4pm and it didn't work until Tuesday at 5am, the day of my procedure. The second dose I took at 4am on Tuesday. nothing else happened. I told the nurse but they did the procedure anyway. A third of my colon could not be viewed, I was not cleaned out. The Doctor said I was in the 5% of people it does not work well for. It's supposed to work in 2-4 hours, mine took 11 -12 hours. So guess what happened in the afternoon after the procedure. Yep spent the afternoon and evening back in the bathroom emptying the rest.
What time was you procedure done? In my case I took one at night and one in the AM but my procedure was not till after 3PM. It was slower than some of the others so I took 2Dulcolax the night before. I have a very slow system.
