Prepopik Laxative (Page 6) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHas anyone in the US used this yet for colonscopy and what did it cost?
I just used it today for my first colonoscopy at 9:30 am. I am a 23 year old female and was incredibly nervous about the prep because laxatives usually make me very sick. However, this was a CAKE WALK! I got slightly nauseous with the second dose but I'm pretty sure that has more to do with not eating than it does with the prep. Kinda felt like being a bit car sick but it went away quickly. I never had cramps or a headache at all. The prep drink itself is only 5oz and although it's very strange that the mix makes the water almost hot, the taste was not bad. As far as cost... I have heard that it's anywhere from $85 to $155 but my doctor just handed me a sample one from his office and it was free! However, after hearing the horror stories about drinking a gallon of other preps, I would gladly pay for this one if I needed to.
Thank you all so very much for your comments and suggestions. I will be using Prepopik next month. My husband chose the "other" option this past week and had to drink 144 oz. While the taste wasn't terrible, he said he wished he had chosen the Prepopik and confirmed that I would never have been able to drink so much, no matter how much time is allowed to finish it. Our health insurance company paid for the most of the cost of both options but my husband's option cost $10 out of pocket and the Prepopik was $40. My doctor gave me a coupon to use so the final cost was $32 at my local pharmacy. Sounds like it's going to be worth every penny of the extra cost. Thanks again, all who commented, for helping to ease my nerves! P.S. This is my second colonoscopy, but ten years ago you purchased the prep stuff over the counter and mixed it with whatever you wanted. I used lemonade which masked the taste completely and it was super easy to get down. Hoping Prepopik will be the same!
Hi , My husband has acid reflux and he said that the prep did not bother him at all.
My Dr. prescribed Prepopik and I just picked it up at my Rite-Aid pharmacy and with the discount was charged $107 for the kit and I am completely outraged. This is a clear case of whats wrong with the drug industry in this country. I know a little about chemistry and there is no reasonable excuse for this price for something that can be produced for less than $5.
My doctor specifically told me not to take additional laxatives with the prepopik
I took my first dose at 7 pm and was able to lie down and rest by 2 am. I took my second dose at 4 am. Started going again 10 minutes later. Stayed in the bathroom until 8 am. Had to get dressed for the procedure. Almost didn't make it. Went when I got there, and then 5 more times before the colonoscopy. In recovery, I went again. After that it was just gas. Got home, ate a little food and it started up again full-blown-can-hardly-make-it-to-the-john-gushes. It is now a full 11 hours after my last dose and 4 hours after the colonoscopy. Please tell me that I don't have another day of this to look forward to. On the up side, it was easy to take and didn't cause any cramping. The couple of hours I was able to lie down in bed, I could actually feel the peristaltic motion. Felt like a little critter in there wiggling around. Now that is a first. My after insurance cost was $40. There are coupons on line.
The urge to go ended exactly 24 hours after my first dose. Left me weak and dizzy. Now after 3 good full meals and lots of fluids I am back to myself. Even after all that, I would still recommend it for it was easy to drink and was actually rather tasty. My husband is scheduled for his colonoscopy in 2 weeks. He's considering getting some adult diapers. After witnessing my experience, he figures it would be better to be safe than sorry.
Can anyone suggest the time for the 1st and 2nd dose.
My colonoscopy is scheduled for 10:00 am.... The nurse told me to take first dose at 6:pm the night before and the second dose at 2:00 am....Am I going to be able to sleep at all? Would appreciate suggestions.
Thanks
I didn't mention that the doctor gave me the prep and since my exam is at 8 am tomorrow morning I start my prep at 4 pm then the second dose at 10 pm. Any prep will be inconvenient but I'd much prefer the preopik than an oily gallon of water and a distended belly. With the old prep I started at 4 pm, finished at 5:30 pm and was still going to the bathroom at 2 am. So by comparison I'd rather have it split up and feel comfortable. They are able to flush debris out of the way during the colonoscopy so if there is residue in the colon it can be taken care of.
I tried magnesium citrate the first time many years ago and it worked fine. Then, 8 years ago, it was MoviPrep which was good. It's been 3 hours since I took the first Propopik and so far, nothing is happening. Am to take second dose at 6 a.m. for a noontime colonscopy/endoscopy. I worry that I have had no response so far - because the previous two methods had started working right away. Also found out from internet that as of last month (April, 2015), they are making it in China so now I'm thinking, "Maybe they forgot the ingredients!" I'll be very unhappy if I don't get any response to the second dose. Thanks for all your posts. They are all helpful.
Oh it will work! It took over an hour to finally kick in. I liked the prepopik because I only had to have the nasty taste for 5 oz. Brushed my teeth, took time drinking that was fine. It's just really slow working. I had to do both packs yesterday. I started at 4 pm and by 10 pm, my 2nd dose I really had just started going to the bathroom. I went to bed at 3 am and woke at 6 am to get ready for my procedures for 8 am. Honestly I rather the gallon. Once you start going you just sit there. By the time I was finished with prepopik my rectum was bleeding and raw. Bleeding onto my underwear. It was because there is so much stopping and starting of the bowel movements. Luckily colonoscopy was normal, next one in 10 years. I did have an EGD and had multiple bleeding ulcers, clamps applied and done. My friend is my doctor's nurse and she said my experience was an exception to the rule. That's about my luck. If I have to do it before the 10 years I'd take Go-Lyte anyday. Give me the gallon, glass, cell phone and I'll be finished AND get a good night's sleep.
So sorry Carol you had a rough experience. Someone had written in giving advice before I had mine done, and the advice was each time you have your bowel movement wipe with one of those soft huggies or something like it and put a dab of vasoline on your rectum, makes all the difference in the world, and i took that advice seriously, as the first time i had mine done i was so raw, and i bled too. Someone else had also written in to curb your eating habits two days before not one, and i did that too. I had a good experience with this Prepopik, and i'm not looking forward to the next one, but it sure will be better thanks to all the advice i read here.
My colonoscopy is in the morning and I am so nauseous I wish I could throw up! This is after 2nd packet. There has to be something better than this!
I'm with you! Did the stuff just like it says too and then am told that I have to do a different prep because it didn't work.
I took my first does at noon today for my colonoscopy tomorrow at 10 am. . It start d working I about an hour. First.. I have trouble taking liquid mess ( Ick!) so my dr said this one taste a bit like tang. He was right. I really had no problem taking it. I have had a lot of bloating and painful painful cramping. Not looking forward to does 2 at 10 pm. I think I am likely cleaned out now.. No idea how does two could take out more. Still. As far as ease in drinking this.. It was no problem..
i took mine this afternoon.. it started to work within an hour.. my colonoscopy appointment got CHANGED! so I am not taking the second dose. I am afraid to go to sleep for fear of an accident. I cannot imagine NEEDING a second dose. this is pretty brutal.
I got a free coupon from my gastr. Dr. I heard it's like $90.00 to buy. Best prep for a colonoscopy i have tried..this is my 3rd colonoscopy, other 2 preps were awful. This prep was the best.
Update: it started working after 7 hours. I guess it works slower for some than others. I am still keeping my fingers crossed that I am good for tomorrows afternoon scope. As far as the Prepopik is concerned the taste and amount are good. I have talked to many people who said other preps were awful and to much to get down. This one is only 2 5ounces servings around 6 hours apart. Not bad. And so far not to much abdominal pain/cramping but it would depend on your underlying medical condition regarding how bad the cramping/bloating/pain is.
I used this ..is real good. I paid 40..my doctor gave me a 50 dollars Coupon. .
I took Prepopik at 4pm and at 8pm, and only drank water through the day before the procedure.I did not feel anything after the first dose and 5-6 hours after the second one.I finally worked at 2am.
