Prednisolone Side Effects

Hello, I have been diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome since the age of 6 and have always been taking Corticosteroids. Although this year the doctor has prescribed me with Prednisolone for the first time.
The side-effects have been worst than what I thought, to be honest the cramps and the muscle pains have been really bad but nothing that I wasn't already used to. I couldnt do sport anymore because I couldnt breathe after only 2 minutes of activity. Swollen face was also something I was used to..as well as the acne all over my face and body. Stomach ache so strong I couldnt walk. Of course this is in someway depressing when you are 22 years old and love to hang out with your friends and enjoy life, in someway it actually stops you, psychologically in doing different things, either you want it or not.

But that were side effects I have always experienced with other corticosteroids as well.
With Prednisolone I have started to have strong mood changes, suicidal thoughts, anxiety and other psychological problems.
I have to make clear that I have always been the happy, funny, helpful guy in the group of friends. Never shy of anything and always ready to make new friends. Loved to joke with my younger sister and brother and loved being around my parents and girlfriend only to make them laugh.
This has all changed when starting to take Prednisolone. I started to get angry for anything, it didnt matter how small the problem was. I am not saying slighlty irritated...im saying angry as breaking things shouting, insulting in a very bad and hurtful manner. I have started to fight with my dad everytime we spoke on the phone, which never happened before since he has always been my best friend. I felt as nobody wanted to be near me, and I didnt want to be near anyone.

I have always rejected people who spoke about suicidal, since I have always thought it was a person been weak, without the strenght to fight and carry on with life and everything it has to offer and I was not like that.
But since I have started with this medicine, this suicidal thoughts came into my mind and I can not take them away. Is not as I want to suicide...but sometimes is like "I now understand why people do it..." Specially after I have my "life sucks" mood moment, which I never experienced before taking Prednisolone.

I have now stopped taking Prednisolone after reducing it to 5 mg, started 7 months ago with 50mg. I am waiting for this side effects to leave my body and I cannot say i am just sitting down waiting for them to leave, I am also willing to fight this medicine and do everything I can to make it go away. I know what it means to fight for something, I boxed for the last 7 years of my life and i know what it means to give everything in the ring and in life even with a handicap, which I never mentioned, because I am not in this world to make people feel pity for me, thats not what I want.
But what it has bother me the most has been the total unawareness of doctors, people (including myself) of the serious side effects of this drug. My family and everyone around me kept repeating me that everything was only on my mind, but I have always known that it was not that, that there was actually another person living in my body, and it wasnt me, and the worst thing of all, I couldnt do anything about it.
I usually never write on blogs, actually this is my first time, but I am doing it for me to feel better knowing that other people feel the same as me and also to spread the word and make people aware of the importance of side effects in drugs and how they can change your life.

I'm a patient of some auto immune disease, I have treated with Delta cortil 40 mg a day then reducing it to 10 mg per day within 2 to 3 months. my age is 40 yrs and and wt 50 kg . I have faced severe side effects during and after and the reduction of drug to 10 mg which include:

* Insomia
* Muscles Scramps
* weakness in legs unable to climb stairs
* Mood Changes become short tempered and impatient
* legs and foot swells
* Diabetes or blood sugar getting very high
* Pain and tiredness
* High SGPT 200 for Liver diagnostic

I must state to all doctors that patient must be aware of all the isses and pros and cons of the diagnosis and drugs side effects

For me , I prefer to heal slow with less amount of drugs instead of getting so many problems in the form of side effects with high amount of steriods
