Having been treated for atrial fibrillation for 10 years I am about to switch from my regime of monthly blood testing on Coumadin to Pradaxa. As you can imagine I have some trepidation at such a radical switch in treatment. Whereas I will no longer need the blood tests having them gave me some comfort in knowing the viscosity of my blood at any given time. Suddenly no longer needing them and "flying blind" is a cause of some anxiety. Does anybody have any advice or thoughts on how best to make the transition. ## My Cardo had me stop Cumadin three days then fourth day start morning dose 150mg and evening 150mg continous. I can tell you I feel MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better on Pradaxa no headaches and no draggy no energy feeling like when on Cumadin which I took for siix years. I will be...

My husband was on Pradaxa for approximately 3 months. He started waking up every morning with blood on his tongue. He went to the ENT who scoped his throat & that was not the problem. He went to the dentist & that was not his problem. While off the Pradaxa for his procedure, the bleeding stopped. He has now gone back to Cumadin and their is no longer any blood in the mornings. ## Based on the research I gathered about Pradaxa, it seems as though your husband was experiencing a severe allergic reaction/side effect to the drug. been thinking of taking pradaxa for stroke prevention...the say it can reduce the stroke problem by 35%...and advice ## Has your doctor advised you to take it? Like any medication, there are risks associated with its use, so it should only be used if the possible benefits to you outweigh the risks. It contains the active ingredient Dabigatran, which is an anticoagulant, so that's how it can help prevent a stroke. However, the side effects can include: nausea, dizziness, easier bruising and increase risk of bleeding. You can learn more about it here:
