Should I take him to a doctor? ## How is he doing? Did he suffer any adverse effects? There is no danger from them being expired, however, there can be problems if he gets too much potassium, it can cause heart and blood pressure issues. The only other typical side effect, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea due to the potency. Any time you are worried that someone may be in danger, especially a child, you should contact poison control or your nearest emergency services.
Doctor has RX'd both lasix and KLOR-CON M 20meg for swollen ankle. Is it necessary to take both medications? Can I just take the lasix and rely on the potassium I obtain through the foods that I eat? ## Hello, Buckeye! How are you? It would be best to take them both, if your doctor has prescribed them both. Diuretics, such as Lasix tend to really sap your potassium and it could be dangerous, if it drops too low. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lasix as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. The Klor-Con is known to cause stomach pain and upset, so it is best taken with food or a snack. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The advice in your reply sounds logical and I will follow it by taking both meds. thanks, Verwon. An extensive sea...
My mother is 79 and doctor said her potassium was a little low so he prescribed her potassium chloride 20meq tablets but now she complains of odiarrea so I cut them in half to where she's only taking half a pill a day now. Is this OK? ## Hello, Deb! How is your mom doing? No, these tablets should not be cut. Potassium can be very irritating to the stomach and GI tract, so they are coated to release slowly over time to help prevent that. It would be best to speak to her doctor about prescribing the lower dose tablets. Stomach pain is the most common side effect, as listed by the FDA. Is she on any other medications? ## Well my mother is better but for the couple of days that she was taking potassium she had diahrea so that's why I started cutting them in half and only giving half...
my Dr Rx 20 mEq tablets with my Lasix 40mg everyday. The mfg companies need to rethink their making of such a ' large and hard to swallow tablet'! I have choked numerous times and have had to be given medical help! Recently my RN crushed my tablet While I was in the hospital and I was found unresponsive. I have chronic abdominal pain 24/7, gastroparesis, gerds, and IBS. Remember the majority of K+ users are the elderly who have a difficulty swallowing!!! Nurse Jackie ## I don't know why you think the crushing of the medication had anything to do with you being found unresponsive. Potassium is not supposed to be crushed because of its corrosive properties. It can cause esophageal and stomach lining corrosion, the same way it burns if infused too quickly through an IV. Literal...
My rx is round with KC 10 stamped on it. Can I take one every other day so my stomach doesn't feel bad all the time? ## Hello, Kelly! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. It's best to follow your doctor's prescribing instructions. Have you tried taking it with food, rather than on an empty stomach? That usually helps. As a matter of fact, when I was in the hospital and had to take it, they wouldn't give it to me without a meal or small snack. The FDA classifies this as a supplement and please be careful not to exceed your doctor's dosing, either, as too much of it can be just as dangerous as not enough. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for your response. my blood test showed a potassium level of 3.5. Is that just low a...
IT'S BLUE IT SAY'S KLOR-CON 8 MEQ ## my body is not absorbing them. What else for replentishing potassium? Have already been hospitalized, for 1.9 pot. ## dried apricots, and sweet potatoes ## To add some more information, because I am sure there are others with similar issues…. If you aren't properly absorbing the potassium from these pills there are other solutions you can try, as long as it's okay with your doctor. You can ingest more of certain foods that may help, since our bodies always do better with a natural source of nutrients than they do with artificial ones. Along with the foods mentioned by Health Nut, some others include white beans, most dark leafy greens such as spinach, baked potatoes with skin, acorn squash, plain non-fat yogurt, fish...
I take 1 KCl a day and since I started taking it I'd always have acid stomach or acid reflux. I had to take over the counter acid reducer. Can you tell me if I should stop taking this. I am taking many prescription medicines and there might be interactions. Thanks. ## Hello, Nitz! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Did your pharmacy not warn you that it can do that and should be taken with food? That's usually a very typical warning given for these potassium tablets, since they are so potent. It may also cause gas and bloating, as listed by the FDA. What other medications do you take? If you can post back with them, I'll gladly check for interactions for you. ## Thanks Verwon for your reply. Honestly, I already stopped taking the potassium t...
Is it ok to take this med if you take linsiopil ? ## Hello, Faye! How are you? You should only take them together, if your doctor has specifically instructed you to do so. Lisinopril can increase the levels of potassium in your body, so taking them both creates the risk of your accumulating too much, which can be just as dangerous as not having enough in your body. Klor-Con is known to be very harsh on the stomach and should be taken with food, as listed by the FDA. Lisinopril is classified as an ACE inhibitor and its side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?
This is the huge white oblong shaped tablet with KC M20 imprinted on the front. I would like to know how many MG of potassium chloride is in each tablet, please. ## how many mg of potassium cl in one klor-con M20 tab ## For anyone else seeking such information, these aren't measured in milligrams, but in milliequivalents and the measurement for these ones is 20. Learn more Potassium details here. This is a potent supplement given to people that are suffering from a deficiency in this vital nutrient. It can be very irritating to the stomach, so they should be swallowed whole and taken with food. Is this the same product? I was given Pot CL Micro. When refilling I receivedPota chloride. Are they both Potassium? Is one product better than the other? ## Hello, Linda! How are you? These are both potassium chloride, they were just manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies. This is classifies by the FDA as a supplement and it can cause stomach irritation, so it is best to take it with food. Is there anything else I can help with?
I have a prescription for Klor-Con 20. What is similar in over the counter? ## Hello, Terry! How are you? I'm sorry, but as listed by the FDA, this is a very potent potassium supplement and there is nothing available over the counter that is comparable. You'd have to take far, far too many of the over the counter supplements to be equivalent. Thus, it would be best to pick up the prescription and take it according to your doctors instructions. These are known to cause stomach upset, so they shouldn't be taken on an empty stomach and you should not crush, chew or break the tablets. Is there anything else I can help with?
Why is my Klor-Con powder prescription so expensive even with the co-pay ## Hi Judy, From what I understand, prices can often vary at the pharmacy's discretion, depending on what cost they received it at from the manufacturer/distributor. However if money remains a concern, I would encourage you to try various drug discount cards, such as the one MedsChat offers here: RX Savings Card Coupons like these can reportedly save you anywhere from 15 to 75% off your prescription, and are valid at most pharmacies here in the US. The card can be printed out and brought with you when you go to fill your prescription, in order to see what type of discount they offer. Not sure if you might be aware of this or not, but fruits and vegetables are also abundant in minerals including potassium. If yo...
Why does my potassium chloride 10meq sa tab bottle say not to lie down for10 minutes after taking ? ## Hello, Mike! How are you? That's due to the possibility of it causing some acid reflux, that might lead to esophageal erosion. Potassium is very harsh on the stomach and will usually cause you to produce more stomach acid than usual and if you lay down within 10 minutes, it greatly increases the chances of reflux occurring. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Found the info I needed thanks
I have potassium level of 3.3 and was prescribed Pot Chlor Er(Klor-Con M20)Tb 20Meq but I have Irritable bowel syndrome and Gerd's and the medicine appears to be irritative to the stomach and esophagus. In addition I cannot swallow such a big thick pill. Is there a substitute which is liquid or powder? ## There are other potassium supplements available over the counter, but to be equivalent to this, you'd have to take a lot of them and the risk of them being irritating to your gastric system will still be there. That can actually be mitigated by making sure to take it with food, rather than on an empty stomach and will a full glass of water. However, if you really can't swallow it, then check with your doctor, they may have some other idea that could help. Are there any othe...
My cousin gave me this pill and said it will help me shed a couple of unwanted pounds for my final dress alteration. Is it safe to take? I don't know what it is. ## The pill you are describing is Potassium Chloride (10 meq) manufactured by Watson Labs. Potassium chloride is in the class of drugs called potassium supplements (minerals and electrolytes) that are used to prevent hypokalaemia. I'm not quite sure about any claims for weight loss effects, but it would safe to assume that just eating some fruit each day (bananas or dates) will provide you with your daily value of potassium and additionally aid in weight loss. NOTE: Orally supplementing with KCl can be toxic if in excess. You can click on the link below to view more information about this drug... I hope this helps! ## C...

I have been going to a weight loss Doctor for years now I'm not working and don't have the money. He gave me a prescription and vitamins plus a prescription for Potassium Chloride 20MEQ ER Tablets to protect my heart. My heart would skip beats without Potassium Cl. while on the weight loss pills. In order to save money going to the Doctor monthly for the meds. I have tried two different weight loss meds shown on the Doctor OZ show. He said these pills were save and had no side affect, however They both caused my heart to skip beats. I had a few potassium pills left and broke them in half (hard to swallow whole big pill before it disintegrated, very nasty) since the pill had a mark on it to break in half ,why not take half early and then the other half latter. Still hard to swallo...

i am prescribed potassium chloride extended release tablets, 10 mEq K. the instructions say not to lie down for 30 minutes. why is this? ## Hello, Monica! How are you? The reason is because potassium tends to be very harsh, it usually increases stomach acid production and, if you lay down within half an hour, you may experience reflux which could cause damage to your esophagus. Is there anything else I can help with?
