Phoenix Az Need Doctor Who Will Write Shoret Term Xanax, Ativan, Klonipin For Tremors??

Updated

I am stuck in a horrible limbo land. My old doctor suspected I may have MS and suggested I see a neurologist. I agreed and had to wait 18 months to make the appointment because I've spent all my money tracking down every symptom over the past 8 years.
Now I got in to see the neuro at Barrows but he only said he has to get MRI scan before he write any prescription. That was fine except he never wrote the order and I spent 3 weeks calling and begging. Finally got order but no scan till June.
Now this MS has gotten so bad I cannot drive or work, I shake non-stop, The shaking is so bad I have broken 2 teeth in the past 2 weeks,
He said it was OK to take xanax for shaking which I did because I had an old script for it from back in 2006. I called his nurse to ask now what since I used the script up which only had 10 pills left anyway. She said well you'll have to find a doctor to write another rx. Find a doctor?? You are my new doctor?
I just spend $280 on a consult, am waiting for an MRI scan and no one can write me the medication that they told me was OK to take??
If I was taking Xanax for fun, I wouldn't have had 1/2 a bottle left from 2006. Now that I need that or something similar to stop these tremors, no one will help me.
I can't take this anymore. I don;t have a family doc anymore, I don;t go to the doctor and need one who will understand that this is just temporary until I get the scan in June and neuro will help me. I've called St. Joes and Barrows 30 times pleading for a referral to a doc who will help and I get nothing. I don;t know what to do at this point. I can';t believe they won't help me.
Need a doc in Phoenix AZ and need him/her today. I can't shake like this another day and I need to be able to get my teeth crowned but can;t do it while shaking like this. Help!

The main problem here is that Benzodiazepines really aren't usually used to treat MS and the related symptoms and most doctors aren't going to want to prescribe anything, until they have a definitive diagnosis.

You'll also run into problems if you see a new doctor and are asking for a specific medication, which is a controlled substance, because this immediately raises red flags.

And telling you that it's okay to take a medication that you already have, to see if it helps with your symptoms, is really quite different from writing a new prescription for it, when the patient doesn't have a definitive diagnosis, yet.

I am very sorry to hear that you are suffering, but the only thing you can really do is try to find another doctor and make sure you take all medical records with you or have them sent to that doctor.

You can learn more about the disease and its treatment options here:

Does anyone else have any advice to add?

Yes I do understand that 100% I was just fighting the neuro to get the MRI and other tests done so the problems I have can be treated vs just being bandaged.

It was beyond frustrating to not get so much as a call back. Then the nurse there told me to use the xanax I had if it worked but when I said there are only a few pills, it's an old script from an old doctor. I would need someone to refill it, she said 'good luck'.

Not I'll have the doc call you or we have better meds for MS, just left me to dry.

So if I go to a new doctor and try explaining this mess, I'm gonna sound like someone who is looking for pills not looking for help.

I had to get an attorney to help me with the lack of testing and treatment from a specialist. After my post I got the worst headach ever and then after having it 2 days, I lost vision in my left eye and 80% in the right. I was rushed to the ER.

It turns out not only do I have MS but the ER did a CT scan thinking I had a bad migrane or nasty sinus infection. It was neither.
I have a 'mass'. The er doc sent a Neuro Surgeon in to talk to me which I thought odd but I listened.
He knew I had a neuro and was waiting for tests so he said "your CT Scan is abnornal but because it's not and MRI we can't be sure what we are seeing in the brain. You need to get back to your Neurologist asap".

He didn't want to worry me with part of the picture but did say they scanned the sinuses to see if that was causing the pressure headache. The ENT said the sinuses do not look infected but we are seeing something behind them that shouldn't be there. You need a more specialized scan like an MRI with a contrast dye.

So that's what I know. I called the neuro again and said if you can't help me, release me someone who can because the situation just got a whole lot more serious.
That was yesterday, today I'm still waiting for a call but the ER doc didn't give me meds to stop tremors except in the ER, he did write pain medication RX in case the headache returned. I haven't filled it yet but will today so my head stops aching and I can ride down to the neuros office and get my consult records on spot.

If you are not thoroughly diagnosed with a neurologic disorder, you need to run (not walk) away from a specialty hospital like Barrows where all the Neurologist sub-specialize in specific diseases/conditions.

The nurse there was right when she said "we have sick people here with Parkinsons, MS, and strokes, you aren't a priority for an MRI for some shaking".

Case closed. I hope this tumor is shrinkable because I think when pressure builds in my brain, certain areas are pressed and that's causing these symptoms like the tremors.

I hope a doctor runs across this post. They need to understand when a patient says they have many symptoms that have suddenly worsened, it doesn't mean we are hysterical hypocrondriacs or drug seekers.
Take everyone seriously because the one you drop through the cracks, may be the one who is seriously ill and will make sure you don't practice medicine in this country ever again.
I wont let greed or laziness hurt another person like me. And you can only blame yourself. I'm done.

Sorry I didn't fully answer your question because I was busy venting-lol.

I am going to a new neurologist. I should have a name today and this is being processed as an emergency visit so I can get the MRI and other tests asap.
If I need to see a specialized neuro after that, fine. But I think neurology is pretty darn specialized anyway.

The best thing is to find a way to help release the pressure on my brain. I aalways felt this pressure, so much so, I cannot bend over and put my head between my knees without triggering a headache.

I've lived with many symptoms for a long time thinking I was training too much, or not working out enough, not eating enough veggies, etc.
The past 6 years I've worked in the Fitness field, co-owning gyms, managing personal trainers, and then on top of my law degree, I became a certified personal trainer, certified Spin (indoor cycling) instructor, and I run marathons.

My doctors in past could see I was into fitness because I have defined muscle tone especially in arms and legs. It was what I loved to do and I believed if you took care of yourself, you were less likely to get sick.

I know that's not true, many illnesses are hereditary but I likely offset the MS 10 years. It got bad 3 years ago but I kept pushing. I was so tired and I would wake up 4:30am run or bike an hour, go back to sleep, get up get my son ready for school, drop him off, back home to bed, wake at 12:30 get dressed, go to gym to workout with my trainer, back home to bed, wake up 3:00 get my son at school, back to bed till 6pm, wake up make dinner, help homework, shower, back to bed.

I did that for 18 months until I couldn't do it anymore. I moved in with my ex-husband 2 years ago so I could be with my son and kept pushing until Sept 2010 when I fell off the cliff.

Now I am home 24/7. I quit all jobs and sold out my business. My body couldn't go anymore and the sicknesses and problems got closer and closer together until I get one good a day a week vs 6 good and 1 bad day.
Have not even been well enough to go to the gym and ride a bike for 3 months. Everytime I would go to stretch my legs, I would be laid up 3 more days from pushing.

I know there is no 'typical' addict and anyone can get messed up with prescription meds. I can see how it happens. I don't look down on anyone but it's that overall problem that causes people like me to get close to the end of life before we get help.

That's not OK! A doctor needs to be a doctor, not a narcotics law enforment official. If they did their job right, they should have no problem keeping pills out of the hands of people who are gonna kill themselves. I mean by accident.
If an addict wants something an addict is gonna get it regardless.
I have a close childhood friend who battled a terrible addiction to alcohol and pain killers. She's been sober 7 years now but I recall her stories about her addiction.
We never even knew she had the problem for 5 years. She was taking 45 vicodin pills a day. I didn't believe anyone could take that much and live but she built up tolerance.
I went with her sister to take her treatmment.for some reason she had to wait and check in when she was in full blown withdrawls. I think it was 24 hours after her last pill.
You only need to see that sight once to be very, very afraid of prescription drugs. It was horrible, she was so ill and I was helpless. After we dropped her off, I cried for 3 days.
But the nurse said they had a new medication they would use to stop the withdrawls but not make her feel like she did on vicodin.
I remember thinking trade one pill for another? That's not treatment.
But when you see a loved one that sick, you want them out of pain.
Long story short, she was so grateful for the help, wanted it so badly, and was on a pill she had to wean off of with the treating doctors help.
I think it took 6 months. But now she's 'free' as she says and she also told me she would do anything to go back in time and not have gotten on pain pills.

She says it's a daily stuggle, i'll always have to be vigilant and strong, and this is my new way of life.
Looking back I see how hard she worked but I forget she is still doing AA meetings 4-5 days a week and volunteers a lot of time helping others who want to be better.

So I have seen it, closer than I ever wanted to. It's horrible, I wont be put in that situation that's why I said SHORT TERM benzo.
I did talk to the neuro surgeon I saw at the ER yesterday and told him my situation.
He had a great idea, he said I can call in Klonopin if you know its helped or better yet, I can give you long acting xanax-once a day dose or a muscle relaxant called Baclofen.

I went with Baclofen since he said that's what most MS patients use for tremors. I haven't taken it yet because I haven't been able to sleep and moving non-stop helps me not notice tremors as much. But for now I have a medication to ease tremors.

All I want to make clear here is if your body is telling you something is wrong- listen to it-seek help!

Most of all DO NOT GIVE UP! DON'T STOP LOOKING FOR ANSWERS IF YOU FEEL SOMETHING IS WRONG!

If you do stop, you may end up finding out when its too late as in my case.

Chey, no need to worry about venting, this site doesn't mind, at all. You've been going through a very rough time and you're right, it is unfair of the doctors to do and none of them should just assume someone is a drug seeker, without more information.

I had to play games with doctors for many years and I spent about 7 of them misdiagnosed and miserable. I didn't find out what the actual problems were, until last fall, when it finally almost killed me.

However, for most of those years, my docs just slammed me on pain management and never bothered to actually test for anything else. They made assumptions about what was causing it and refused to change their minds, even when the tests they did do didn't show anything.

I finally got sick of taking all the narcotics and just stopped everything cold turkey and about a year and a half later, after I'd moved to a different area, with different docs, I finally ended up in the ER and had doctors that were interested in correctly discovering what was causing my health issues.

It really screwed up my life for many years and was something simple that could have easily been handled and treated, before it almost killed me, had anyone bothered to check and test for everything they should have.

So, I do understand your frustration. When they don't listen and/or just make assumptions it is unacceptable, because it's your life that's on the line.

I have used Baclofen in the past, it is muscle relaxant. It can cause drowsiness as a side effect, so it may even help you to you sleep, along with assisting with the tremors.

You may also experience other side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness and dry mouth.

You can read more on it here:

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Baclofen/

Please post back and keep me updated on how you're doing!

II truly feel and get yours and anyone elses frustration&hopelessness. I find the way MD's, DO's, PA's & NP's act and have acted the last few years since 2009 forward disgusting, selfish and blatantly against their oath. These "doctors" make me sick and need to think about the Hipocratic OATH M.D.'s took after completing med school. Parts of that oath was "Do no harm" & "Physician heal thy self". This oath goes back to even Roman Empire days.

It seems that today as well as over the last few+ years that Physicians have forgotten the SACRED OATH THEY SWORE TO PRACTICE BY. I've even had a couple primaruy care docs tell me that most Doctors are clueless in regard to drugs and basic Pharmocology. 80% seem to only care about losing their state license which is a scare tactic the non-MD idiots at the DEA have been using to scare medical providers into thinking they could get their license revoked.

I think the best way to help yourself is to get ALL YOUR MED. RECORDS SENT TO ANY NEW MD YOUR GOING TO SEE ASAP BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT. YOU DO THIS BY FINDING A GENERIC MEDICAL RELEASE OF INFORMATION ONLINE OR PICK ONE UP OR ASK THE NEW DR.'s OFFICE EMAIL OR FAX YOU ONE. THEN FILL OUT THIS ROI AND SEND VIA MAIL, FAX, OR EMAIL SIGNED BY YOU TO ALL RELEVANT FORMER PROVIDERS. THIS WAY YOUR NEW DOC WILL HAVE YOUR FULL RECORDS AND YOUR FORMER DOCS HAVE TO SEND IN YOUR RECORDS AT NO COST TO YOU TO YOUR NEW DOC.

IF A FORMER DOC PRESCRIBED A CERTAIN CONTROLLED DRUG, THE NEW DOC SHOULDN't HAVE SUCHH AN ISSUE. IF YOUR AT THE END OF YOUR PATIENTS OFFER TO SIGN A TREATMENT AGGREMENT SAYING YOU WONT ABUSE OR DIVERT ANY DRUG THEY HAVE AN ISSUE WRITING FOR. ALSO THESE AGGREMENTS ALWAYS INCLUDE SET OR RANDOM DRUG TESTS. LAST TIP, THE EASIEST WAY TO GET A CT, MRI OR EITHER OF THESE WITH A CONTRAST DYE IS TO ASK YOUR PCP FOR A WRITTEN SCRIPT FOR THESE TESTS AND ASKING THE 3rd PARTY TEST COMPANY TO FORWARD THE WRITTEN REPORT NOT ONLY TO THE PCP WHO ORDERED IT BUT TO ANY OTHER OF YOUR DOCS THAT NEED IT BY GIVING THE PLACE THAT DOES THE SCANS THE OTHER DOCS INFO AND SIGNING A RELEASE SO IT CAN BE SENT TO ANY OTHER DOC YOU WANT.

DOCTORS IN A LARGE OVERALL MAJORITY ONLY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES NOW AND ARE CLUELESS ABOUT EGAT RX DRUG ABUSE REALLY IS.

**** IF ANYONE KNOWS OF ANY DOCTORS IN PHOENIX AREA THAT ARE OK WITH PRESCRIBING XANAX OR KLONOPIN TO PATIENTS WITH LEGIT MAJOR ANXIETY/PANIC DISORDER/SOCIAL ANXIETY ETC. PLEASE PLEASE EMAIL ME xxxxx@xxx {edited for privacy}. I GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP, THANK YOU.
