Pharmacy Ripped Me Off
UpdatedMy husband has a prescription for 90 1mg generic xanax 90 count. We just got home and when he counted the bottle there were only 60 tablets. The pharmacist says the medication was double counted because it is a class 3 drug, however, I also picked up a class 4 medication today temazepam and it certainly was not double counted. Isn't there a way that we can find out if they shorted him? I should note that the pharmasist is being very defensive and rude..I know that they are wrong, but they say they are right..I should say the Pharmacy is new to Ca, It is CVS.. What happens if wwe have a stand off? Do we have anyway of proving them wrong. My husband has daily severe panic attacks and being shorted 30 is a big deal. Thanks for any help anyone can give me
your best bet would go to the pharmacy an have a second conversation , this time with the man that pays the bills or their cheif or head wenier that handles any greivances, tell them that you think a mistake has been made, it is common for some people to veiw numbers backwards such as a 9 turned to be a 6 this is a form of i belive its called dislexlia, it would be a simple mistake as many people know they have this problem , but won t admit it, it may have been the pharmicist assistance that filled your order, always never speak rude, always speak in a professional manner, if this fails to re-elvaluate the problem, you can file a complaint with the States Board of Professionals, this may not solve the problem but it will leave them with a complaint record, I, m not for sure but i beleive they may have to post counts of their medications as a bank teller with their tells, I would also let them know in a polite professional manner that they are leaving you no recourse but the filing of the complaint if the greivance discussion is not satisfactory
Thank you for your reply Woodstock. I had already finished my post when Mike was still on the phone. I am glad to say that Mike never got rude even when he was being practically called a liar. When Mike politly let him know that they must have a count on all scheduled medications, his response was, well since you have been such a good customer we will give you the benefit of the doubt and give you the 30 extra tablets. You are right about the pharmacy has to keep acount of all controlled meds. A few years ago I had a prescription for vicodin 30 count, when I got home. there were only 25 in the bottle. I called right away and the person who answered the phone said hold on a second, and he came back and told me they had 5 extra tablets for the day, so I know how pharmacies keep records. I just think Mike was upset that basically he was called a liar. but if it works out tomorrow like they say, no harm done. but Mike asked them to put in his file that any medication he gets prescribed, he counts them before he leaves... Again, Woodstock thank you for your post....
Pat
Woodstock, I just caught something you said about dyslexia. I have no problems with words, but numbers, I will see 2989, as 8929, its like I have a problem with numbers BIG TIME, but not with words, I don't know if they consider that dyslexia or something else..It happens to me all of the time...
Pat
hope I helped Pat. it came to mind as my grandson is 5 an shows some signs of it many times they grow out of this, he is now learning his numbers an always writes double digits backwards3
Good news, we went to the Pharmacy today expecting an argument, but aas soon as we got there the pharmasist said Everything has been taken care of Mr. **** so he put the 30tablet in the bottle, no problem, Thanks so much Woodstock for helping me with this problem..
Pat
I've had this happen before and raising a stink is really the only thing you can do and then hope they fix the problem.
I recently requested my pain Dr. to prescrbe me MS Cotin as I've been on methadone for 9 yrs. Wish I could get away from all meds, but my pain won;t allow it and I've no other alternatives. So the Dr. writes a perscribtion and the bottle I received from the pharm stated Morphine Sulf 60 MG TAB. SA. I noticed that the written prescription also stated the above. Nowhere did it say MS Cotin. The tablets were oblong and orange throughout. Everything I've read about MS Contin stated the pill was round with coloring on it (Which can be wiped off down to a white tablet which could then be crushed diluted with water and injected if so desired) So I got no tablet that resembled the above. Have they changed the MS Cotin to keep people from breaking them down??? I would have thought that the perscribed bottle would have read MS Contin A time released med which is white inside and full of minute wax particles that slowly releases the morphine. But again I received nothing like that. Any info would be appreciated.
everything you spoke of in your post tells me you re interested in one thing, trying to find out if the medication you got , if you can bang it, the simple answer is call your Dr. or pharmicist an ask what you got an you want to bang it
Wow, I don't know how my question about being shorted some tablets got all mixed up into a person who wants to use their oxy in a way that they are not supposed to... Dude, if you want suggestions on banging your meds, there is another website for you. www.Bluelight.ru. If I am wrong and misunderstood the question, If I am right, and you want to bang your meds, I got one word of advice, If you have never done it, DON'T do it, you will be in for years of Hell. I know because I have been there and down that..Check into a rehab that has a pain management clinic and a doctor who specializes in addictions...Good luck to you friend
The MS in MS Contin stands for Morphine Sulfate. They are one and the same. As far as banging them. Total waste of time. You should have gone with oxy's. But thats retarded anyway!
I FOUND out sometime this weekend if you drink alcohol while taking morphine sulfate it can release all morphine at once, creating a overdose, an fella told me that opana does the same thing
I would file a report with consumer affairs and any other places like the pharmacy itself and whatnot. This may not produce results but at least it will go down on the record and if enough ppl comlain then they'll review the bad pharmacists. Malicious pharmacists do exist and if he was getting rude/unpro about it thats a sign of one. Like they keep the meds they like for themselves and sell them but I suspect they would be under survailance camera as they work.
I had this happen once to my methadone and i get 480 a month, i had them re-count there end of the bottle and they found out that they had to many left in one of there bottles and said that i was right and they were sorry and owed me the the rest, they shorted me 60 pills. what they do is count the bottle that they had to open and then see if it had less or more in it then it should ask them to do this and if they say they have had others filled with the same drug then they should count the people that came that same day and add there meds to what is left and if indeed there is a shortage on your end then there should be more meds in there bottles at the drug store and they'll be honest they have to be. so ask them to please count all there pills from that day and it may take a few hrs but it worked for me.
I went to Walgreens to have a script filled for 2 mg of 60 cylonipan on Tuesday. I didnt count the # b/c i assumed it was ok. I took my prescribed amount over the next day in a half but then realized it didnt look like 60 was in the bottle. I counted them and there were 24! I went up to the pharmacy but they said the amount was double checked and they couldnt have been wrong. The manager is out for a week and im ok with the meds for then. ALso, i live alone and no one has been over this week. What are my chances of them giving me the difference in the amount? And if not, what recourse do i have? HELP!!
Hello! I went on Thursday the 11th of March to U of L pharmacy to pick up my usual longstanding medication of Klonopin 1 mg. I have never abused this, as I have 5 years clean from a different time in my life. I am an honest person, and believe honesty is always best. On Sunday evening my Mother noticed that the bottle was much more empty, so she (an RN and as straight as the day is long) counted them and we found them to be 45 pills short-15 days short. I was so angry, but assumed that honest mistake, go and speak to them and it will be made right. Not so..I was accused of taking them all-selling them-abusing them. I was in tears. I worked so hard to kick heroin, and I an honest without fault. I have to be to remain where I am today-clean, full time nursing student-the love of my family-and trust. The day my mom said I was back and she was proud...well it was a momentous occasion to me. The pharmacy says the pills were machine and human counted, though the day I was there the computers were down. I was told U of L makes no mistakes. I have been sent 3 sets of different peoples medical records including all the information one would need to be a thief and a scoundrel. There are always some other ladies medical records in my records. They frequently give me the wrong lab sheets for bloodwork. Mistakes are made. They are only human. I was treated like a junky-fiend. I didn't deserve that, I informed them so they would be more careful. This is turning into a black mark on my integrity. I am scared they will just pull the whole prescription, and I need them, I am being treated for hep c and the panic is severe.I cry and rock and cry and panic and cannot breath, I feel like they are killing me, I have sores all over me, shingles, pain, hair loss, and fear. I am afraid. I told the patient advocates, tried to contact the doctors. I usually have some left when I fill the script because I do not take all 3 if I am feeling ok. Also my classes are hard to do when your sleepy. I didn't do anything wrong, but feel like I am being persecuted, I hear it in their voices oh yea, sure we shorted ya I am at a my wits end. I live with my mother, go to school, meetings and try to be a good person. plus-if I ingested 45 pills in 3 days I'd BE DEAD! What do I do? please help me figure out how to stop crying. How to make them see that I am not a junky, I am certainly no dealer. All I wanted was to not have panic, I do not wish to feel any effects of the high. I feel like my doctors will not trust me now. My integrity has been bashed, please help a lady out of a real pickle.
Grey eyed Godess.. Please E Mail me, {edited for privacy} The Pharmcy is lying to you, Every scheduled medication has to have every pill accounted for. Don't give up call them on their lies..Whoever filled the prescription kept the missing ones for him/herself, or another person in the pharmacy took the pills. This happened to my husband and they counted and recounted and they did short him on the pills and they had to give the rest to him..Don't trip on being a recovering heroin addict, I am too, although I chose methadone instead of abstinance. I tried 12 steps and it just didn't work, my PAWS never went away and I was suicidal, and I knew if I didn't stop shooting dope and get on MMT I was going to die,,It is none of their business anyway, the medication you are prescribed now has nothing to do with your past, and if they do bring up your past, sue the SOB's!!! Hold your head high honey, don't allow anyone to make you feel like s***..Write me, if you need to talk, ok..BTW, let everyone know what pharmacy you are talking about because I bet more people will pop up and say the same thing happened to them..We stopped going oto CVS for that and other reasons and now for the time being are using Walgreens..I woud also be honest with your doctor concerning this issue, he/she shouldn't be suspious of you because of your past and if he'/she is, then its time to find another doctor. You can't get off of this medication cold turkey as it is dangerous, so you need to file a report with your doctor, the pharmacy, and your doctor should refill the prescription a few days early. If your doctor does the unthinkable (cutting your off) file a complaint with the AMA...Your doctor can't knowingly cut you off of a medication that he/she knows will cause you harm from cold turkey WD's..Please remember, you aren't a criminal, you are an addict and addiction is a diease and you are covered under the Americans With Disibility act..Pull it up on the web..I don't know the URL, but it should be easy to find..Good luck to you
Pat
I have worked as a pharmacy technician for the past 10 years and I can tell you we do our best to be accurate, especially when counting class 2's, 3's, and 4's.
One thing I would suggest you do, is before you take that prescription from the pharmacy. You either stand in front of the pharmacist and count the pills or stand there and watch the pharmacist count them for you. Simply for the fact that, once you take the prescription out of the pharmacy, it cannot be returned. (At least in the state where I work!)
I work for a small, locally owned pharmacy and I'm impressed that a pharmacy chain as big as CVS, corrected the prescription. I know they do, but I'm still impressed.
Also Grey Eyed Goddess... if the computers were down that day, you have good reason to believe they shorted you and you should talk to the owner or president or head pharmacist. Someone besides who you have already spoken with, report that they were rude.
I don't know if it will help, but I'd try it anyway!
Again... COUNT your pills while your IN the pharmacy INFRONT of the pharmacist! It's the only SURE way to do it!
count them on the pharmacy counter next time. this time your screwed because you left the pharmacy.
I also have been shorted vicodin and occasionally Xanax from the local CVS. The pharmacists are never gracious about it-they make you feel like an idiot and basically accuse you of being a drug-addict. Then the pharmacist told me loudly one day, in front of other customers, that he didn't want my business anymore! amazing how they never miscount non-controlled drugs like Motrin ---- I'm still pissed to this day and am hoping he gets arrested for stealing pills or even a DUI would be good!!

Did you go to CVS? I got ripped off by the one on Marconi and Fulton in Sacramento, CA. They first told me my methadone needs prior authorization on Medicare for 240. NOT! It's 360 for an exception. I had to buy it, I had left the written Rx There for a week so they could check with my Dr.. It was Fri and I was out completely! They told me $60 on Thursday, then $35 with a discount card. Then the other woman there said no you can't use a discount card for narcotics! I don't know why I was charged $98! I'm sure they will pocket it. I'm calling corporate at CVS, Medicare and the Ombudsman. I have worked for Doctors for yrs years before my Stroke. Do NOT let them get away with it. It's a federal offense and they are ripping you off. There is no such thing as double pricing except in her book. Get your money back and get her busted and fired!
each pharmacy is only allowed so many of certain meds evev if they did and I believe you that they did because it happened to me at CVS in Virginia and I went right back and I got mine it depends on how long it's been because even if they did a count I'm sure the ones missing are gone by now, best bet no matter what recount before you leave the store if it is any kind of narcotic medication
Jenn, you normally can't sue anyone unless you have damages. What are yours? You went to the Police and are now going to call CVS corporate, the DEA & retain a lawyer. Why I'd call my State Board of Pharmacology or whatever its called in your state, the people who regulate Pharmacies
Funny you should mention that the pharmacy was a CVS, because guess what, it happened to me too!! Last month my boyfriend went in to pick up my two scripts; one for 1mg klonopin count 60 and .5mg xanax count 60. Well, when I opened the Xanax it seemed to be low on pills. I then counted them and was shorted about 28 pills!!! I called CVS to report and they asked me a few questions such as to look at the bottle and see if the quantity was numbered as well initials next to it. That is supposed to mean that it is double counted. Well counted in their favor!!! They told me they couldn't do anything about it since I already had picked up the script and left the store. I was really upset but I just let it go. Well now it's a month later and I went to pick up my pills today. I told them what happened last month and said hat I'm going to count them right then and there because then I have a witness and a camera videotaping to prove if I found the count to be off. Guess what the sneaky pricks did it again but this time took 32 Klonopin!!! I freaked out and said we'll look here it's happened again!!! The girl then gave it to the pharmacist manager to review. He gave me more pills and didn't even say he was sorry but just that he was going to talk to the person who did the first count on the script. That person wasn't working at the time. I said I was upset and wanted to know if I should call the police or whatever. The manager said he was going to look into and that's when I said well I want your name and I'm going to report this!! So off I went to the police station and filied a report and was given a DC number for further reference. The police said that since the pharmacy gave me the pills that they couldn't press charges against them. But I could if I felt necessary file a civil legal suit. Well, I don't have the money for that!!! So I now am looking into reporting this to the FDA. It's important because who knows how many others are being ripped off and seriously when I saw your post that just further justifies my anger and belief and CVS are thieves!! Also, I am calling CVS headquarters because this isn't fair! So my advice to you is when you pick up your script next time.. do what I did and count them right in front of them. Don't say that you are planning on doing it though prior to going there. Because then if they know what's going on and are the culprit well they will then file your script accurately. You need to catch them red handed like I did!!! I will post more and hope you do the same because I want to see how this pans out. I refuse to let it slide though. So let me know what happens on your end too! Good luck to you!
The day before yesterday I picked up 2 prescriptions. She's been getting the same RX from the same clinics/doctors over 12 years and have been customers at the same Lucky supermarket/Pharm. for 14 years without problems. The Rx was faxed to the usual pharmacy. My wife was feeling sick and I prepared her usual dose as recommended.. The next morning I prepared her dose, she was having a surgical procedure early Wed morning. I prepare almost all of her meds, she has a feeding tube to avoid nausea and vomiting non-stop; she has achalasia and vomiting can last 6-12 hours and much longer. I called the pharmacy first chance Wed. morning, to get a bunch of double talk from the asst. Pharm.. She says she can't do anything till she hears from the real Pharmacist who's on vacation till monday. My wife will be out of meds by then. She has been admitted to Stanford Valley Care Hosp. in Pleasanton, Ca close to ONE HUNDRED times. My wife is very sick, Dr Zafre @ Axis Comm Health, before her Dr Taffreshian, before her Dr Julier. Now that the Muslim Brotherhood, Isis and other Muslim terror groups have flooded American streets with opiates and SEVERELY cut back writing Rxs for pain killers, patients with 10 plus years of history without problems are being accused of lying and not being reimbursed for missing meds that they are charging for. So you know what Dr's and greedy Big Pharma CEO's do, they raise the prices. Now patients are turning to cheaper, and more readily available opiates. This all seems too coincidental to me. I'm far too educated to see a coincidence. I also want to point out that more than half of the Rx staff has been employed at this store less than a year... Please tell me how and where to report this: Lucky Pharmacy, m 2000 portola avr, Livermore, CA 95440.
Me to 30 anxiety pills and every month 2-3 or 3-4. Dr thinks Iam lying now what
Shemp, don't be a Stooge. First of all Xanax is not a Narcotic, 2nd there is no need to count your pills at a pharmacy and hold up the line. Patients like you make the system worse
Ya u should first always count a narcotics before leaving second they have to keep detailed account of number of educations if he put it in his pocket it of been in tape stop getting so high on ur benzos and you'd of thought of this
I was just shorted for the FORTH TIME on my pain meds! This is a Weis Pharm in PA. The first time, one pill, I called the next day and a bottle with one pill was waiting for me. This was years ago when my total was lower. The next time I was shorted 63! The next day they were all apologetic and said confusion during training, gave the pills. The third time, short one again, they counted their remaining, said they found a half a pill not part of the total, so gave me my missing whole. This time, OH NO, WE NEVER MAKE MISTAKES.. and now they -conveniently- don't remember the other THREE times!! AND had the nerve to tell me they are insulted at the insinuation that they could EVER make a mistake!! Even asked me -why- am I counting my meds? Like an abuser or something, ummm cause u can't seem to get it right all the time! R U KIDDING ME!! Now it's not even about the short anymore. it's about them calling me a liar -(in other words of course!) Why would I lie over ONE pill after being a customer for over 20 years!!?? I brought the bottle back and asked it to be counted and RIGHT THEN a pharmacist added one to the total! Oh but they couldn't possibly make a mistake!! I am pissed beyond belief, I need to know where to report them where it counts, not with their own people who don't give a cr**.. but to a drug dept in PA. Does anyone know where to take this complaint? ABSOLUTELY HATE PENNSYLVANIA.. for 100 reasons, this is just the most recent!
You sound like you need to get back on your meds.
