That's the chemical salt it is derived from, the actual chemical name for this medication is Phenoxymethylpenicillin. Though it isn't always listed in the name, or on the label by your pharmacy, all medications have an additional designation that shows the chemical salt they are derived from, such as hydrochloride. The FDA lists this as an antibiotic and the typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you very much I had a bit of a chemo brain moment there there is a lot of things I don't know but I ask about I understand now the purpose of the potassium
Can this be used for sinus issues? ## Hello, DM! How are you? Penicillin VK is classified by the FDA as an antibiotic, so it will only be effective at treating bacterial infections. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Improper use creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, so it should only be taken, if your doctor has prescribed it for you. Is there anything else I can help with?
I think I may have syphilis due to a rash on my upper body nothing on palms or feet. would this medication help? ## Hello, Gary! How are you? I'm sorry about the rash. That doesn't meet the symptoms listed for Syphilis by the NIH. The first state is open sores and the second stage is the rash that also covers your palms and the soles of your feet. Penicillin is used to treat syphilis, since it is an antibiotic that's been shown to be effective against it. According to the FDA, it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, since this doesn't sound like syphilis, you really need to see your doctor to get a proper diagnosis and discover what the proper treatment would be. It might just be an allergic rash. Have...
I have Afib and was prescribed amox clav 875 for an upper respertory infection, I was wondering if it was safe to take it. ## Hi deb, According to the FDA, the only contraindications listed for Amoxicllin and Clavulanate Potassium are in patients who have a history of allergic reactions to penicillin, as well as patients with a history of "associated cholestatic jaundice hepatic dysfunction"; neither of which pertain to A-fib in my understanding. And odds are if your doctor prescribed it then you should be fine. However it's always a good idea to ask your doctor for a second opinion before taking anything that you're unsure about. Hope this helps! ## Thanks so much for the info, I feel better knowing that
Can I take Penicillin VK 500mg and Mucinex D along with my Methadone? I'm afraid it may cause breathing problems and would like some clarification. ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? I didn't find any interactions listed between the Penicillin and the Methadone, but there may be issues if you take the Mucinex D, since it contains Pseudoephedrine, which works like a stimulant and the Methadone is a depressant, so you should check with your doctor, before combining those. Penicillin is an antibiotic and according to the FDA, it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. [1] Mucinex-D is listed as containing Guaifenesin and Pseudoephedrine, it is used to alleviate congestion. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, in...

Hello, GREAT web info. Can a penicillin allergenic person take amox pot clav 875 125 tab. Thank You... ## Hi Bruce, To answer your question, Penicillin and Amoxicllin are both related, so if I stand correct the risk of having an allergic reaction IS still possible. However, because not all allergens cross over, there are rare cases where someone may take one or the other without experiencing the same allergy. Is it worth taking a chance though? Probably not, in my opinion. I'd encourage you to talk with your doctor and see if he/she can offer you something different altogether. Better safe than sorry! I hope this helps! ## Hello David,Thanks for the reply...
I have cough and runny nose sneezing..an groggy feeling..I am coughing up an blowing green yellowish mucus..wanted to know if penicillin vk is good for infection? ## Hello, Patrick! How are you? I'm sorry that you're ill. Yes, it is an antibiotic that can be used to treat many types of bacterial infections. However, you shouldn't take it, unless your doctor has verified the presence of an infection and prescribed it for you. It might not be the right antibiotic to treat your infection, or you may not have enough to fully eradicate the infection and both scenarios create the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

How often, how many and how long should I take it for? ## Hello, Cynthia! How are you? I'm sorry about the toothache. No, since it hasn't been specifically manufactured for human use, it may not be safe for you to take. The dosage can also vary, depending on the severity of the infection and your response to antibiotics, it can range from 500mgs twice daily up to 500mgs 4 times a day, sometimes even more. Updatedwas told when a kid, that im allergic to pennacilan.does anyone ever outgrow this condition? also-are there typical symptoms of pennacilan ingestion by someone who is allergic to it? ## Hello, William! How are you? Yes, people can sometimes 'outgrow' allergies, or even develop new ones. However, don't just randomly try some Penicillin to find out, it's likely best if you just stay away from it. It is an antibiotic that requires a prescription, so it's not like you're going to just randomly run into. You're doctor would have to diagnose you with an infection and tell you that need an antibiotic. And if that happens, there are many others you can take to avoid worrying about the allergy and what may happen with it. An antibiotic allergy can include an itchy skin...
