Pain Medication Cut Downs (Page 5)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Is it just me or is all the pain management docs trying to cut everyone down or back!!?? When I went to my last visit the doc had the nerve to ask me if I still needed my Oxymorphone 20mg ER (56). I was like YEAH, what do you think?! This is after they closed down for 3 months and I had to switch to Subutex to not get sick. And I got dropped from the 30mg oxymorphone. And by the way the 20'mgs are garbage. Then my doc asked me to get an MRI on my lower back, which I did the month prior. It just goes to show what a dumb ass he is and how they're so not in tune to what is going on! All they want to do is lower and lower your meds. Has anyone else had their doc try and taper them down or try and lower your stuff? By the way, I'm in south FL.

Re: Jack175 (# 113) Expand Referenced Message

Hi again Jack....Yes, I have the notes and x-rays from all of the Radiologists about the issues I'm dealing with. I hate to explain situations to any doctor, I just do. lol... I've always said I think I may have white coat syndrome. The doctor that I'll be going to, they said I didn't need a referral, I didn't need any of my records. if I had some that would be okay, but if not that was fine. I did read all the reviews on this doctor. They were excellent. I couldn't believe that. People were saying this doctor helped them so much with their pain medications, and shots. Like I said I'm driving an hour to see this doctor. I'm just too old to play the games, I'll be 62 and I'm just exhausted Jack. Subutex for me is disgusting. I don't like it. But Subutex and Suboxone has saved many of lives. I've been on it for about 11 months. I can dose twice a day, but I usually only dosed once a day. Can't stand the taste. I told the doctor that had prescribed Subutex that I was just tired of taking pain medication, because I actually didn't know what to say to him Jack. Only contract I signed was just to work the program. Not much of a program, I just went in paid $225 and I got my prescription every 28 days. Here in Ohio it's gotten really strict, so I'm just hoping everything will be on my side Wednesday. Thank you again Jack. Hopefully we'll talk again. You've been a lot of help to me. P.S. How do I find out taking Subutex and you want to go back to pain medication are you allowed to do so? Or will this doctor say since you're on Subutex you can't have pain medications again. I'm just trying to figure it all out Jack. Any suggestions on that? Thanks.

Re: Lizzy dizzy (# 112) Expand Referenced Message

I do not want to tell you how to get around the system if you have indeed done something wrong ... however if the doctor really suspected you of doing bad things with your meds I do not I think he would have given you a script for Subutex instead it would have been a prescription for suboxone for the most part. I have been dropped so many times not because I did anything wrong but because doctors get afraid of prescribing and I end up in bad places. On one of those occasions I ended up at er and after the doctors talk to my position I was put on Subutex for pain. It did not help me very much neither and a couple months later I was returned back to the medication I had been on for a very long time before it was taken away from me again. I do not want to tell you how to put this to a doctor because I really don't know but I do know that no addicts besides pregnant women or someone who is allergic to an ingredient the suboxin are put on Subutex. I am wondering if your bottle of Subutex says on it for pain like mine did when I took them?
Good Luck, I hope this might have helped you.

Re: Lizzy dizzy (# 112) Expand Referenced Message

Hey Lizzy, So, you failed a U/A and got booted from one practice, then you went to another practice to get subutex right? What are the rules when you change to the subs, did you have to sign a contract with them? What did you tell them to get subutex? Did the say you wouldn't be able to go to pain mgt again? If you went to subutex for pain, you just tell them that it did nothing for the pain. Hopefully you wont have to tell them about your meds being stolen, as that doesn't look good, but If you have your copy of the Radiologists reports, you shoul be good, I sure hope so.. If you have anymore details let me know, ok?

Re: Jack175 (# 111) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Jack.
About a year ago I had a family member that was living with me. He still means a lot to me, trust me. He was stealing my pain medication, I caught him we had a conversation and I thought all was good. I started putting them in a safe, somehow he got into the safe Jack. I went to my pain doctor one day and of course I had no pain meds in my system because I had no pain medication, do to him stealing them. The last straw for me was when he didn't get in the safe he stole the whole safe. I finally threw him out of my home, So I was kicked out of pain management. Then I was afraid I was going to get sick, went and was put on Subutex, I don't like it. It may work for some people but it doesn't work for my pain. I have a lot of pain, spine, knee's, I had neck surgery and I have a lot of trouble from that. I have a lot of documentation to prove my pain. I'm driving almost an hour away Wednesday to see this new doctor, I'm afraid he won't help me since I have been taking Subutex, I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions Jack would help me.
Thank you. I hope this makes sense. And sorry for the book.

Re: Lizzy dizzy (# 108) Expand Referenced Message

What kind of pain do you suffer from, and do you have documentation to support your pain, like Mri's x-rays or anything?

Re: Jack175 (# 104) Expand Referenced Message

I have been angered over this crap long before doctors took my meds away. I could get a script and have no one willing to fill it... many times! I have been hospitalized in severe withdrawal more than once because I could not get my meds. I have written so many posts and used probably 3 or 4 different names; the site knows as I have always used the same E-mail address. My thought is that the Prescription Drug Monitoring. PDM that was supposed to keep people from using more than one doctor for opioids was used against us and doctors. If that is not so there would be no reason to take opioids away from people who still needed them and were doing everything right!

If the government can do this then why can they not do something to do background checks for drug offenses. Those that are clear and still need these medications could maybe be authenticated by more than one doctor (a second or even third opinion of sort). Authentication we will call it. A marijuana card is only good for a year so maybe even set a re-evaluation date to be sure the person still needs the medications that they have been authenticated for! Please tell me what you have in mind as all the letter-writing and complaining has gotten us farther behind!

Re: Jack175 (# 107) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Jack.
I'm going to a new pain doctor next Wednesday. I'm just scared to death, that he's not going to do anything for me. Any help you can give me would be so appreciated. At this time I'm not on any pain medication. I'm just so scared.
Thank you Jack.

Attention to all you football fans! Tom Brady of the Patriots was picked 199 in the 2000 football draft. This means that the highest paid, most intelligent statisticians in the world selected 198 players, in front of Brady! Here is my bottom line to the story; THE WORLD IS MORE THAN BLACK AND WHITE! Given mitigating and extenuating circumstances, and numerous other unquantifiable things, the world does in fact exist in shades of gray! It is my contention that certain regulatory agencies are making life altering decisions, (war on pharmacology), based on an extremely narrow band of logic! The problem is, most of the population is assuming the passive role while responding: "Thank you sir, may I have another?"

Re: Jack175 (# 102) Expand Referenced Message

I don't believe there is any other approach for me! I am not fixable with surgery and Medicare does not pay for any other types of innovative treatments such as stem cells using my own cells!

I am working to get my life in order but even that is challenging because of pain!

I am pretty certain my first amendment right is the only way to stop this god awful pain at this point!

PS .. I am clean of drugs alcohol and cigarettes. I recently got a medical marijuana card in hopes it would help! I do on occasion get 40 winks after vaping but I hate it. It makes me anxious, I feel off balance and afraid of falling. There is no pain relief just a messed up feeling that I neither enjoy or like. I tried tinctures that I put under mu tongue or drops I put in my mouth before trying the vape but for what ever reason I go no help with the oral routes. I have not tried actually smoking it in its natural form. I am like a ticking time bomb because hope went out the door with my oral opioids!

Re: focked (# 101) Expand Referenced Message

Hey focked, what's going on? What problems are you having, getting meds? Would willing to try an innovative approach with this thing? The reward would be getting a pain mgmt doctor that would write you meds, if you're clean?

Re: TnJack175 (# 95) Expand Referenced Message

Absolutely worse! Nothing for pain and nothing for sleep! Thank God the government does not have the balls to go after our first amendment rights. It is the only thing I have left for my problems that are more than an inconvenience.

Re: John Kramer (# 98) Expand Referenced Message

Hi John
Ahh, now I see the whole picture. I do know about Tramadol and I understand your concerns. That's quite a story. I remember my son getting prescribed that, and nobody caught the fact that he was prone to seizures, so he went on to take it until one of the nurses at the Dr.'s happened to read about my son so we promptly tapered of the Tramadol without it causing any problems. I hope you get it when your supposed to!

Re: John Kramer (# 98) Expand Referenced Message

Sorry I forgot the end to the tale! Just guess what the attending physician administers for Tramadol withdrawal. That's correct, more Tramadol!
In the final analysis, I figure ER supplied pharmaceutical cost me just shy of $3000.00!!!

Re: TnJack175 (# 95) Expand Referenced Message

Good Day TnJack, About two years ago, a pharmacist at Kroger denied my Tramadol refill. (I've been on Tramadol for 20+years). In accordance I was forced to go "cold turkey". During the course of the day I went through a series of mini blackouts, (periods of lost time). As my wife was alerted to the situation, she took me to ER after effects got really severe. The irony of the whole event was that the incident arose from a pharmacy clerical error!!! I invite you to read the disclaimer on Tramadol, where you will note seizures are an expected contraindication after a withdrawal from said pharmaceutical.

Re: John Kramer (# 96) Expand Referenced Message

Great hypothetical, I hope this opens the eyes of the ones who would be responsible. But I think there would be a lot of finger-pointing and the case would be tied up in the courts for years. I myself have been cut down on my meds as well and I firmly believe that these doctors are scared to death of losing their license if they prescribe more then they are allowed. My doctor won’t admit that he thinks he knows my body better than I do, therefore, he cut me back. I don’t know how this all got started, I know why but I don’t know who is the one that made these decisions to cut everybody back, obviously a white-collar worker. I wish you well and hope that you can get this resolved. Good luck.

Good Day, and best of wishes to all!! On this day of August 19, I'd like to offer up a hypothetical that should be of particular interest to those who practice law: Let us suppose that my medication has been denied by the pharmacist, and I have a blackout event on the freeway. Let us further suppose that this mishap results in the death of a mother and two children. Now I will admit that I am not the sharpest blade in the drawer, but I've got to ask the question; WHO ASSUMES THE RESPONSIBLITY FOR THE INCIDENT? Please remember, the dispenser of the medication has my personal documented ER history which will attest to the contraindications of said pharmaceutical withdrawal.
