My pain Management Dr. prescribed Percocet (512 pill), 4 times daily, 6 wks ago for my Spinal Stenosis, Spondylolisthesis and Arthritis. I am finally experiencing some pain relief . My MRI doesn't warrant surgery at this time. My big fear is that I willI become addicted to these Percocet tablets? Can this happen? ## It really depends on you, there is a difference between addiction, and dependence. Addiction occurs when someone abuses a medication, because they like the side effects, such as feeling high, according to NIH definitions, but side effects tend to wear off, once your body gets used to a medication, so they have to keep taking more and more to get those feelings back. If they suddenly stop they can experience severe withdrawal symptoms, which could put their lives in dange...

Well, I was prescribed the different - looking pill last time and it was a white oval with M365 or something..no specks. Very strange that these new speckled ones don't seem to work AT ALL. My 87 year old father-in-law was given Ultracet for leg pain. Whereas he has had a very sharp mind and recall he now exhibits slowness when filling out doctor office forms. His eyes lack their usual luster and he is very unsteady with his hands and feet. Is this to be expected with the use of Ultram? ## It does contain a mild opiate narcotic called Tramadol, so it could cause these types of side effects. The FDA also warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. However, if it is affecting him that badly, his doctor should be informed, as it might not be the right medication for him, and he may need to try something else. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was taking an oblong white Percocet 10/325, my pharmacy has changed to a round white 10/325 pill which is to me much stronger. Can there be such a difference in the same prescription but different manufacturers? With the round pill I feel tired and checked out. The other pill I didn't seem to have any effect unless I took my klonopin at the same time. ## Under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984 the FDA allows the generics to differ from the name brand, in the amount of the active ingredient, by as much as plus, or minus 20%. Thus, it is possible that one may be stronger than another, since generic manufacturers don't have to measure against each other, only against the name brand. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects,...

I am taking perscription cough syrup with codiene and took some hydrocodone recreationally and wondered on a 5 panel saliva test, will they both just show up as an opiate? or is there a differance in the two? ## It really depends on how sophisticated the drug test is. Some drug tests (whether it be saliva, urine, or hair) can detect the exact substance in question, while others may not even be able to differentiate between the basic structures of Hydrocodone and Codeine. In any event, if you have a false positive or are accused of a misreading. I would suggest getting re-tested with a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer. It has the ability to distinguish the exact substances in question. This type of testing is not initially performed because of cost, but, is often a follow-up option fo...

I have been prescribed oxycodone 30 MG's for about 4 years 1 to 2 a day. I decided on the 11th of this month enough is enough! I hated the daily routine in order not to be sick for the day that I had to continue to take them. I became committed to do this for myself and children especially. They don't need a part of me they need all of me. I live in Az and it is harder and harder to come by. I could never see myself putting a needle in me and becoming a junkie. The problem that I am experiencing is that the symptoms continue to linger on, still really sick. When will the days get better? Seems it stays the same. ## Hello, Stef! How are you feeling? Has there been any change? When I went off of my pain management medications cold turkey, after being on them for several years, I f...

Im a 58 yr old woman. I'm bipolar, reclusive and my husband is an over the road trucker. 4 years ago i was put on Percocet 10/325. The dr missed a broken shoulder bone so i switched Drs who added MS Contin. I had rotator cuff surgery but within 3 months I went to bed at Thanksgiving and woke up at the hospital on Xmas. I had severe pneumonia - they induced the coma as my oxygen was mid 60s, and after 3 chest tubes failed, they had to go in and physically debride my lung. So besides shoulder to wrist pain I have phantom nerve pain over that scar. My dr told me the nerves cant connect. I don't take street drugs, nor seek drugs, but my vision is bad and my husband left a tablet in a dish by my chair which i thought was a Percocet and took it. Well, it wasn't. I knew i was going...

i am a single mother with 3 children I suffer from severe pain I am also on disability. I have been seeing the same doctor for 10 years he is my primary care physician, iI have never been to pain management. I am on medicaid and now am with out a pharmacy to fill my oxycodone, I was going to CVS but was told last month because I take xanax also they could no longer fill because of a new corporate rule about taking both of the medications at once, I asked at another CVS to be told they never heard of that. I have been everywhere large and small chains they all say they do not get or they are on backorder. This is awful that people who need their meds because they are in pain have to suffer because of this past problem with all of these pain clinics that were here. even have found pharmac...

I went to 13 pharmacies in La to fill my prescription and every pharmacy told me they were back ordered and a couple told me they dont carry it because they have been robbed. Ive never had trouble filling it where I live in the Bay Area but I'm down here for the month. I will run out of medicine tomorrow, does anyone know regular pharmacies anywhere near la who usually stock this. ## Have you tried any local hospitals? Many of them have their own affiliated pharmacies, to fill prescriptions for their discharged patients and they are usually also open to the public. Most of them carry a very large range of medications, to accommodate such prescriptions, so you may have better luck there. However, you will have to actually go into the pharmacy, with your prescription in hand, so they ...

I have been seeing a pain management specialist for about a year. We have tried just about every extended release along with breakthrough opioid oral medications, always inching from lowest dose to higher. But I also have severe chronic digestive problems which makes it very difficult to take oral medications . So my doctor put me on the fentanyl patch, but on day three I developed such a migraine headache I thought my eye would pop out. Is this a common side effect from fentanyl, and would it occur that long after application of the patch? It should be mentioned that on day three I also developed a case of shingles, so I am unsure which was the cause of the headache, the patch or the shingles. So my doctor put me back on the oral meds, but we're back to square one since I still hav...

1 am taken Tylenol #3 due to a recent operation along with 5mg of of Morphine is this safe? as I was told the body turns codiene into Morphine after a while ## They can be taken together, as long as your doctor has stated you should do so. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. It doesn't actually turn it into Morphine, your body breaks it down into the same metabolites, which is very different and does not create the risk of an overdose. Just make sure you stay within your prescribed dosing parameters. Is there anything else I can help with?
