Ms Contin Prescription Withdrawal
UpdatedIm a 58 yr old woman. I'm bipolar, reclusive and my husband is an over the road trucker. 4 years ago i was put on Percocet 10/325. The dr missed a broken shoulder bone so i switched Drs who added MS Contin. I had rotator cuff surgery but within 3 months I went to bed at Thanksgiving and woke up at the hospital on Xmas. I had severe pneumonia - they induced the coma as my oxygen was mid 60s, and after 3 chest tubes failed, they had to go in and physically debride my lung. So besides shoulder to wrist pain I have phantom nerve pain over that scar.
My dr told me the nerves cant connect. I don't take street drugs, nor seek drugs, but my vision is bad and my husband left a tablet in a dish by my chair which i thought was a Percocet and took it. Well, it wasn't. I knew i was going to have a UA on my next visit, but due to this, (and there is no way whatever was left in my system was high levels at all) he dismissed me as a patient and will not even talk to me nor offer advice how to quit. My husband took me to the ER Saturday night because I woke up screaming because my calves were cramped like rocks. Last year in a trip that got delayed i ran out of meds for about 8 days and i know whats coming next.
I have NO ONE to even keep an eye on me let alone help me. I don't think i can survive either physically or mentally. I've tried calling doctors, the hospital, and no one cares. I'm older, just a bottom feeder in Purdue's pharmaceutical ruin of this country. Other than writing a will, is there ANY help for me? I have no family. Although my Dr knew i needed mental services (esp after the coma), none were provided. What do i do? Im running out of time and energy.. help me please.
Well you call 911 if so bad a hospital staff and Dr. Will perform blood test realize you are detoxing without meds. Which is worse than pain itself and prescribe a taper off method for you . i also was on ms contin for 15 years oxycodone 15 years xnax 25 years etc it takes 30 days min. To taper off then up to 12 to 24 months for your body to adjust. You may be on a lower dose of pain med. For life.?? But any opiut pain killer you become tollerant to and physically addicted. So options are nerve block shots of cortisone every 3 to 8 to 12 months . or prednidone a great antiinflamatory .. Just call 911 if alone its a no brainer.
if you can find a Methadone office, that is what they are there for, or got to ER, look for a Subutex doc
Go to to methadone clinic, they'll treat your pain and put an end to ur withdrawal
You'll be fine you won't die coming of this drug! I've been through it! Valuim/Xanax has been the worst thing I've gotten off! Ever
True but to a point.. It's something else to get hooked on. Just covering up one for another. I did the Suboxone and Methadone programs, neither supportive and as i was there for pain management that never happened, i was treated like a using addict. I'm an addict in recovery but i haven't dosed in 9 years as of this october. My meds were just stolen.. 66 days tooooo early for refill and i've spent the last 36 days in utter hell.
If it was a no brainer she wouldn't have took the time out to write this all out.... Use your words more kindly for she is distraught obviously, she probably doesn't know what's available to her if the dr wont speak to her, i'd feel lost too. Even tho you are CORRECT, just be gentle with the use of your words as she stated her mentality is unstable. If things get unbearable, in 30 seconds after reading this or 30 days, call them for help, they CANNOT REFUSE YOU...GOOD LUCK LOVE XX
I have a daughter who was addicted to many pain medications because of pain management who just kept adding more and more and stronger and stronger. I watched her go through servere withdrawals and beg for pills to just stop what she was going through. It was horrible just as what you are going through is horrible. She is alive today and pain meds free. Do not go to another addiction. The methadone and the other one to supposedly help is just another addiction. Go to a mental health counselor and talk. Talk therapy does wonders!! Go to church, talk to a pastor. Many churches have Celebrate Recovery. Do what is necessary but leave the addictive medication alone. Just know that you are well into the withdrawal and on the road to recovery.. Be proud of yourself for not giving in!! Best of luck to you and God Bless you!!
Oh my gosh are you kidding me right now??? Seriously I am so f***ing mad that the Doctors do this crap. I have a situation right now very similar to yours...I am 56 yrs young and I have been going to a pain management clinic since 2001 and yesterday I called to let them now I went to a Casino and lost my meds and I got a phone call back and was told the best they can offer is withdrawal medication whatever that might be...I have been going there nearly 20 years as a model patient never have lost a medication or had a inconsistent U/A, never a miscounted a pill count and this is what I get? I told them I curse the day I even came to this place. Now if I had hypertension or any other disease where I need meds I would be able to get a refill but because of the hype on pain pills I have to go through all this??? She said we do that for everyone and I said everyone of us are different and unique, just because someone else is a drug seeker doesn't mean I am, so I don't want to be treated like someone else. I can understand if I did this thing on a regular basis but the first time in nearly 20 yrs and if I was going to do this I would of called the first week, not like only a week before i get a refill. I hate this place in Kalispell MT, they make me feel like a stupid little kid. I am so pissed right now.. If anyone knows of a Doctor in Idaho or Spokane area that isn't intimated to help with prescribing pain meds please let me know. Also I wish I could help you but the losers ruined it for the people that have real pain.
It sounds like you failed your drug panel. I am grateful my pain doctor has a protocol for failed drug panels. The way my doctor works is if you fail a drug panel he requires patients to see a drug rehab counselor. And at that point if you fail another one he puts you on suboxone to come off pain meds and then he releases patients. I think his protocol is fair for the people who don't want to follow the pain management agreement. People blame the doctors too much for why they get kicked out but there is a pain management agreement from the very first day of treatment and if people are in serious pain you have to follow it.. I am not pointing fingers and my heart goes out to all who suffer from chronic pain. I suggest you to go to your hospital and explain to them why you are there and they are required to admit you at your request and treat you for withdrawal syndrome. Withdrawals can cause a person to die and every Healthcare professionals knows this. If your pain doctor had any sympathy he would have put you on suboxone to get you by until you could find another pain doctor. I will keep you in my prayers and I hope you don't do something that will cause you harm. You sound like you have a loving husband who works hard, don't forget about him. All I have is my husband and he has helped me come out of severe depression not to mention severe panic attacks. I would be lost without him as would your husband without you.. GOD BLESS.
I read your post and I'm so sorry to hear your going through all of this. Yes it is crucial that you seek help. Tell them that you were a pain patient and what happened. I would also call your doctor for they cannot refuse you some sort of help after all they took the Hypocratic oath to help people. I don't think your a drug seeker. You made a mistake. Nobody is perfect! If the doctor still refuses to help you go to the hospital and tell them that your doctor will not help you. You have legitimate health problems so please keep is informed on how you are doing. God bless you
I am reading all of this and I am scared to death. I just went through a spinal fusion with rods and bolts to keep the spine in place. I am 3 weeks out and am coming up for what I thought was going to be an easy refill for my pain medication (Oxycodone 5-325). Now I am so freaked out that they won't taper me slowly as I was on Tramadol for 6 years before my surgery. My PCP kept writing my rx until I became my own advocate and wanted x-rays, MRI, and Cat Scan. Finally I was referred to a Nuerosurgeon for an opinion and he did my surgery after several spinal inj's. all while my PCP was still writing my rx for tramadol. Now post surgery I am 3 weeks on this oxy and think I am going to need one more month of pain meds. After that....who should I go to for tapering off these opioids? I don't think my PCP wants any part of my surgery recovery. Why is this so hard to get what is needed?? I am baffled by healthcare anymore.... Seems they all want to shove you to the next doc who will see you... If you can find one. Where is the hypocritical oath our Drs take to get their License to be a Doctor!! Scared pt. who needs some advice?
I have to say that the drugs she was on is nothing compared to what you mentioned. There not pain meds. She is a pain patient and yes you can die from withdrawls. She cannot just get over the effects to come. She needs help and her doctor should have never dismissed her without giving her some sort of options.
Well she made a mistake I believe she is still in pain so hopefully she can find a doctor that can give her back her medicine because of one mistake should not cost her her quality of life. She has legit reasons for pain management. She wasn't abusing her meds and from reading her post it sounds like she just took the wrong pill and unfortunately that happened. She has problems with her vision so hopefully a hospital will understand that she will be going through much withdrawal but she also needs meds for pain control. I wish her the very best.
You must get Kratom. Go on line and google Red Bali Kraton for withdrawal. You'll be find within 15 upon arrival. It will arrive two days after you order it. They also sell it in smoke shops or head shops. Completely legal in most places.
God Bless this wonderful lady who is scared, feels alone, struggling with severe and chronic as well as a Bipolar Disorder. Either of these two conditions puts a person through torment and life is a daily struggle. I will be praying for her. Sweetie, you might consider going to a mental health clinic....not just for talk therapy...which is helpful in the emotional support you will receive; but also because you can request a case manager. A case manager primary job is to advocate for the client. That means finding you the pain clinics or drs. needed to help you in this situation. A case manager is trained to know ALL of the resources in the area where you live. They can make the phone calls, do the legwork, provide you with the transportation and resources needed to get your needs met. If your case manager does not immediately display the empathy you deserve, or does not immediately put you in touch with appropriate professionals....go to your therapist and request another case manager. Help is out there. Help is available. Please keep the faith. If a miracle is required.... just know that one is coming your way.
Her problem is nobody is there to help her in transportation or simple watch her. Thats why i recommended call 911 its a now brainer. She has enough brains even with bipolar to post a question on internet. So she has a means for outside communication . you can contact many citys towns countys via internet for help also. You need medical attention if your as bad as you claim . i had seeked same avenues when on medications that i was physically addicted .
I really hope you can make it through this.my Dr.did me the same and I.went through so much pain countless hours of shaking not sleeping and taking my on life Doctors don't realize how much withdrawal symptoms we go either they don't know are they don't give a d"m the only thing that he did was to have the police to visit me twice I thank God am still here I never misused my medicine once I was feeling better I said that he is not going to get away with this so I got a lawyer because who give them the right to gamble with our life we're human beings for God have never never treated us so unkindly .you do what you need to do it's going to be OK good luck
That is rite does don't care they get you on it and stop it when it interferes with them
If it's just transportation she's in need of can she call UBER or LYFT?? I imagine alot cheaper than an Ambulance or Taxi.
The doctor probably let her go because she didn't tell him about the new medicine--usually when you're given pain medicine you have to sign a "PAIN CONTRACT" saying that you'll only get pain meds from ONE doctor.
If she can't explain that to that doctor now--make sure she lets the next Doctor know what works for her & maybe he will even prescribe both MS CONTIN (for your main everyday pain) AND PERCOCET for breakthrough pain.
As far as withdrawing from an OPIATE--it can be done on your own--
Like if you take 4 pills a day switch to 3 pills a day for a week--then the next week go to 2 pills a day & so on & so forth (or how many you have left you'll have to figure it out to get you to your next appointment)
Good luck #BACKSADDLE. I hope I understood your question
Sounds like you need a pain doctor. You have been getting your meds thru your primary Doctor right? Well he can recommend you to a pain clinic. Don't worry. I'm sure you are okay. You can't just stop meds. I mean you need them. Not like your pain is going away. In your case you don't need to be off of them you need to find pain management doctor. Good luck.

The little sticker on all opiut based pain killer bottles & paperwork that comes with it by law..that most people toss out the paperwork.
Refer directly to addiction if using opiut pain killers .
Once again dont blame your doctor
Accept what you did and move on getting help you need.
Happy thankgiving
I absolutely have and I apologize for those I struck out at, just a very frustrating time 8n my life, where iam located there is no physicatric care, believe me I and my Dr looked. It was my fear that made me react so, but I've made some positive changes and while s t I'll a recluse, I'm working on it. I just truly wish that when my Dr put me on all the heavy duty pain meds he would have explained to me that dependency WOULD happen, that's all, and although not very many people were very kind, nor did you need be, untill you have walked a mile in my shoes,,,,
Re: SheriAmore (# 68)
She just likes to kill the messenger of help..
All these people said they felt sorry for her for being bipolar and she could not seek help.
She was smart enough to make the original post and several inflammatory post afterwards..
When myself and everyone else was offering solid sollutions to her problem ..she blames doctors a useless husband and me lol
Never accepts any responability for her own actions condeming people for posting help guidelines
Bipolar or not she even reposted saying i was a troll on the internet
Take some responsability nlack saddle you have to be your own advocate and accept your own actions in life ..
Stop blaming doctors for your ttoubles
Re: SheriAmore (# 66)
My INS let's me get early once a year, say for vacation time
Re: TimiToll (# 67)
It's not part of any oath. If you're talking about the Hippocratic Oath that's been the same for eons. More likely what it is is the CDC's "guidelines" causing doctors to have this "OPIOID HYSTERIA".
Re: Cactus Arizona (# 12)
You cannot die from opiate withdrawal. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal you can but not opiates. It would not be the cause. And now the doctor can’t just write a new script it’s part of that oath you all keep referring. Also the doctor could lose his license to practice.
Re: Cookyjo (# 65)
Hi & thanks for checking back! Yes I'm getting my meds but a couple of them I need to get refilled a couple of days earlier...like Day 29 & CVS just won't do that...it MUST be Day 29 at the earliest. So I'll make sure that's what I do however when I see my Dr. in a week or so I'm gonna ask him if those 2 Rx's can be written so that I can get them a couple of days earlier. He knows that I have to take an extra one here & there...but if not written on the Rx...too bad.
Re: SheriAmore (# 19)
JUST wanted to check back to see if your filling better and receive the medicine you needed.take care.
Re: SheriAmore (# 61)
We were looking for a pain doctor for my dad. He was banged up working on oil drilling rigs some years ago. He also had some degenerative joint disease. The doctor who was prescribing to him cut him off meds for missing a phone call wanting a pill count and smoking marijuana. Pain docs in this state apparently do not like patients having medical marijuana along with pharmacy pain pills. My dad decided to stop his pain meds in an inpatient setting where they decreased his oxycodone dosage every few days. He reports being near pain-free today. I believe he had medicine induced pain. Opioid hyperalgesia. I saw in a news article that the Montana patients fly to California to see Dr. Tennant.
My apologies to all, knee jerk reaction from me, thank you to those who tolerated me and tried. Much appreciated.
