Pain Management Doctors In And Around The Baton Rouge Area That Prescribe Meds To People Who Really Need Them & Accepts Medicaid (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

Does anyone know of a doctor in and around the Baton Rouge Louisiana area that will prescribe pain meds that takes Medicaid? I'm seeing a doctor now in Maryland but I really need to move back to Louisiana very sad that your pain keeps you from moving. I have a sister that is terminally ill and sad to say dying...and meds are keeping me from going to take care of her in her final days. Please help

Let us get this straight. DEA mandates anywhere in this great U.S. that your first year of pain treatment or management is monthly. Medicaid recipients crowding up the physician's office monthly tells me they need and require medication and are present for their appointment.

That includes rich boys, Medicare boys, private insurance boys, and cash boys. If that is the way it rolls for pain medication due to DEA mandates then let it be who cares? I am sure most of the more complex Medicaid recipients would like more then just prescriptions. Are you further inferring that these wonderful physicians won't give them better care because they fall under the "indigent" umbrella.

You know I was raised you must work for insurance and to pay your bills. If you don't then no insurance, no car, no nothing, you starve. That was how I was raised but then again if there are programs (social) to help those in need more power to those in need. Until all people in pain are empowered as a group there is nothing but despair, DEA witch hunts nation wide, and death for those in intractable pain.

P450 If you've already sent everything required to the Dr. I sent you the info on and they called you, I'd go ahead and try to get there, ASAP! However, now we have the holidays and of course it affects scheduling, of appointments. I don't know how you're presently getting your meds, but if possible you need to try to at least get another months worth and then get into this Dr. I know it's not physically easy on the body. Giving up is NOT an option, for me. Think of those, who love you and what they will be left, to struggle with. Sending prayers and lots of positive energy.

Im sorry, I must have not explained myself. I take suboxone for pain management. I elect to so Im not under the influence of pain meds. Every case is different, the difference is once you get past the fact that one doesn't need the pain pill rush, suboxone can help your way of life. Hey, this comes out of my pocket. I have to pay cash to stay clean.

Yes, the same for me. METHADONE was among the best way to manage my chronic back pain. The clinic wont take me because its for pain management, not drug abuse. After two months, we are all called medically addictived, ask any doctor.

DavidatLife,

What was shut down was all these pop-up clinics, just for the purposes of over prescribing, or prescribing to people, who don't need pain medications. Dr.s in it for the $$$. Not licensed for Pain Management. Legitimate Pain management, which is heavily DEA controlled is still here. Those old Pain managements, the ones that were shut down [rightfully so] are what give/gave pain management a bad name and stigma. Unfortunately, most times when you say Pain management people tend to think pills, pills, pills. I can tell you personally my Pain management comes along with a lot of treatment and procedures. I take IV Infusions @28 days also, for Multiple Sclerosis, as well as getting ready for knee replacements. That's only a small amount of the Medical problems I have going on and it's only going to progress, As my Dr. said they are only trying to make me as comfortable, as possible. And you're right Suboxone does help pain! I know I've tried it! Actually the Military has done a lot of research and has started using it, with some of their Soldiers returning home, who sustained serious injuries and were on Pain meds [narcotics] for a substantial amount of time. Somewhere around 2 yrs ago I watched an "Investigative Report" on the Military, who were injured in service and coming home, with their lives further ruined, to addiction. They found this to be an alternative, not only to the addiction problem, but surprisingly to helping with pain. The first time I tried it I kept an open mind.

I'm not into taking pills for the rush. No rush here for me. I was surprised at the outcome. It definitely helped my pain! I'm no lightweight, nor stranger to pain. I'm a person, who is still walking, painfully, but walking, while my Dr.s, want me in a wheelchair full time. I've also had numerous surgeries and need more. Have numerous painful conditions, that each one in itself is a "Pain management" Situation.
If not for the fact of certain medical conditions and the fact, that I can end up, in a hospital at any time and if being on Suboxone then certain meds wouldn't be able to be administered to me. Plus the Drug they are using in my IV Infusions would not allow me the use, of Suboxone. Perhaps what is happening when you call a Pain management is that you are asking them, if they treat with Methadone? That would probably make them turn you away, before you even go. Their thought is probably, that you are a drug addict. This is the reality. If they do use Methadone, as an alternative, in their pain management they're not going to discuss it with you, on the phone. Especially not being an established patient. Doesn't make sense to me, that Methadone, which has been used for years, for WD from narcotics is also being used for pain, in some Dr. offices and Pain managements. I've had Dr.s offer it to me in the past, for pain, but I said "No thanks." I saw my 29 yr old cousin die, from Methadone. Mixing it with other drugs, that are a lethal combination. I never understood the aspect of treating addiction, with yet another drug, that also becomes addictive and sometimes the WD from those can be worse, than the original drug they were taking and trying to get off of. I think perhaps some people don't want to believe what you said, or saying about using Suboxone for pain. However I think it's those that have had no experiences, with this, in which to compare to, or speak of.

Horace,

Do a google of the Feldman Pain Institute one in B.R. and three others in the vicinity about six doctors there now.

Addiction is not the same as physical tolerance, all are tolerant from taking opioids within a week actually.

Methadone is not for addicts, any pain specialists office stating that is weak in the brain. not one you want to visit or make an appointment with. It was created under Hitler for pain and it is the cheapest LA pain management drug known in our healthcare industry. Trust me as a professional nurse and published researcher I know my s***.

Yes, my doctor lost his license. I live in the Hammond area so I'm really in the center of most major cities. I can go to Baton Rouge, Covington, Slidell, New Orleans etc. I really need someone who has a phone number for a self pay pain clinic. I have 3 children to care for and between the pain and anxiety and insomnia I'm of no use. Someone please help me!

please help point me in the right direction {edited for privacy} because I don't want to bother with nerve blocks, etc., as I am getting older and have a husband with cancer and a special needs child. I just want one prescription a month, without any abuse here.

Mark, Louisiana Medicaid won't pay for Chronic Pain Managament, That is why you can't find a Pain Dr who will accept it. They want you to either have surgery or deal with the pain. I don't know what pain meds you take, but depending on what they are, there are limits of how many doses Medicaid will pay for. The rate of abuse and diversion is very high with Medicaid Receipents. Higher prescribers face disciplinary action in every state.

Louisiana Medicaid does pay for chronic pain management. It's finding a Dr that will take it that's the problem. I found mine in August of this year in Metairie and last month he told me he is moving to a different location and will no longer take Medicaid. He said since I'm only on hydrocodone right now that the other Dr that will start seeing me might continue treatment. Hope so cuz it took me three years to find him and was stuck on tramadol for forever. Not much help for everything wrong with my back. And i heard that Medicaid will only pay for two hydrocodone a day but he started me on three and i had no trouble getting it filled.

yes Medicaid will pay for pain management. it was years ago when i called and asked that but I'm with amerigroup with Medicaid and i called them recently to see how much hydrocodone they pay for a day and they do pay for six a day. it just takes time to find a Dr that accepts Medicaid and gives u medication. ur best bet is clinics. just keep making appointments until u find one in your area. that's wut I did. and go for the new mris and emgs that they order cuz they will see that u do need the medication and they might not give u anything till u can prove it. there are too many aholes out there that just want drugs and it makes it harder for people who are truly suffering to get wut they need

AlexisB, pain management is expensive. Very few pain management drs will accept patients that are self pay. You picked the wrong state to move to if you're a chronic pain patients without insurance or don't have the money to pay for it.

AlexisB , I was trying to give you information that it appeared you didn't have. I don't write the policies, I just try and share them with those who are unaware of them.

I wish you luck finding a pain management dr you can pay out of pocket. Have you called the drs in your area and surrounding areas ?

When Louisiana Medicaid sent the list of Medicaid Poviders to the BayouHeatlh Health Plans, they didn't seperate those who accept Medicaid Only if you have Medicare and those who only accept Medicaid. They also didn't update the names in the list. That is one of the reason there is so much confusion.
