skyjester..have you tried opana? And if you have can you tell me what side effect's if any? I know am repeating myself but everything i have heard indicates it is a good medication for relief of pain. What kind of pain are you having? It sound's like you are really suffering and i am so sorry. Have you tried generic oxycontin? I have been reading that there are a few natural substances in your health food market that may relief pain. I have tried the capscien ..i think that's the name but after a few day's my stomach revolted and had to stop taking it..maybe your stomach is stronger and you could try it? Just please know your not alone..(that's very hard because pain is a lonely place to be..we all know that) Is the new formulation op's giving you any relief? I read that if you can not tolerate the new oxycontin then a letter by your dr. to Purdue will allow one to get oc. Have you heard this? Anyone? What does the FDA say when you contact them over the side effects you have? There is hope..

Skyjester I feel your pain it took close to 2 decades to find the right combination of medications numerous surgeries to control my head pain waking up every day for over 20 years with head pain does not make for a happy day, at least with the OC The severity was controlled and the seizures where controlled but now I am having more attacks, to whom wrote about there medic only had a 25% adverse reaction report is all good but thats one medic. I have herd from Pharmacies even the VA that the OP is causing some serious issues with patients and many are being tried on new medication
Some patients in Nursing homes that do not say much are talking about how sick this medication is making them. With these ones accusing people complaining to be drug addicts are the ones that dont care about anyone , They are making excuses for Purdue screw up, we who have been on long term medications do not get high no matter how many one may take there is no buzz involved, it just helps decrease our pain, we are not addicts we are dependent and we depend on the medication to help us live some what of a normal life most of us has had surgeries and have tried everything as no one wants to be taking medication we would rather be pain free wake up every day and feel good not having to pop a pill before we can function
we all want the miracle the cure for the illness we suffer with , By God if we could live pain free getting off the medication would be a blessing,
going through withdrawls would be much easier then living with pain,
I would Imagine everyone suffering from Chronic pain would have no problem going to detox getting off the medications we are on if there was a cure for our suffering, but I do not think any of us would detox , if they found cure for are illness I dont think the need for pain medication would even be thought about if we would wake up with out any pain it would be a high it would be a buzz to be pain free and feeling good would have to be the best buzz out there for us whom suffer every day.
This is what so many do not understand they call someone a addict when they are dependent , not even close to being addicted.
If we all could be pain free we would be addicted to love the love of living with out pain,
I know the people who suffer as I have for decades would be happy to throw out our medications for a cure for our pain
There is no medication i n this world that is good for us they all effect our body in negative ways, we who suffer knows this and feels this every day, but when we have chronic pain we only care about getting relief not caring what the medication may be doing to us inside we just know there is relief in the medication so we take it just to go on and hope maybe a cure will be found or so we just do not die living with the pain. Just to be able to pick up our grand kids and play with them take them fishing is the best but when one in chronic pain is deprived of relief, we are unable to have those days with our kids or grand kids.
So If someone wants to say we are addicted they may need some help,
we dont get high off the medications we manage our life
Find the cure and we will toss our medications.
I have woke everyday of my life for over a decade with headaches 4 days out of the week with Complicated Migraines, then the Thunder Clap headaches and clusster headaches on top of a Migraine get waken in the middle night with a Hypnic headache.
Then have surgery after surgery as each one is suppose to be the fix
Then there is no specaslist that knows why the surgery did not work, but lets try it again.
Then years of trial and error and they find the right combination that helps control some of this pain.
Then its taken from us and there is always that one person that has a remark he must be a addict because of all the medications he takes, Most of us our on more then just pain medications as I am on several medications that are not a narcotic what about those why dont they label us for these medicatons also and they can do more damage to ones body then any Narcotic can.

I get upset when people do not know the whole story and start pointing fingers at people
Skyjester it sounds as its happening to you.
Purdue has screwed us and I am on the trial and error process again ,
\I refuse to take the OP as they made me sick and very sick and who needs this.
I am sure one day the OP will be on the News where it has caused a death or a serious illness and Purdue will be back in the News with new lawsuits
And the ones at Prudue thinking everyone that calls complaining is a addict lets just hope one day you dont fall three stories on your head and years down the line the medication that helped you with your pain doesnt get taken from you.
Purdue Where is your Heart at

me..i just want to say i know exactly what you are talking about. There are nursing home resident's who are finding the op's not effective and it's making them

sick as well? Your right..none of us in our young yr's ever thought we would in our golden yr's need to be dependant on narcotic medication to even get out of bed let alone function. What a blessing not to know our future. But yet i am so grateful for oxycontin as well as to my nurse practioner for prescribing this and it's comforting to know there are so many that struggle with the stigma of relying on a narcotic painkiller. Why is that? Me..have you talked with your pharmacy about generic oxycontin?

lol..somehow what i just wrote didn't come across as i had wanted...i meant to say i thought i was the only one who struggled with having to take narcotic painpills..but apparently i have alot of company and somehow that makes me feel better.

Generic form are no longer available one is lucky to find a distributer that has the old ones in stock same with generic there may be some still not depleted . I have asked
I am trying Opana which have been increased to get levels right
They are helping to a point and better then the new OP, but still its in the trial and error trying to get the dosage right
Purdue called me last week again just to tell me they do not plan on bringing back the old formula
why bother calling me to tell me that
I just said thanks for calling and hung up I did not need to hear their excuses and It was a bad day for me
I try to be polite all the time so I hung up before my pain got me saying things I try to just keep in
talking any longer would have stressed me out and made the pain worse
Purdue has no heart and cares less I have figured out , Its not about helping people in need its about making their wallets fat

You know what's remarkable about Purdues' F-Up? Compassionate, understanding from intelligent people... more likely empathizing with the day to day grind we call life. So THANK YOU for your thoughts... it has helped me to not feel so alone... I'm not a left-wing leach.

I've been asked a lot of questions and I should have given specifics about my... uh, "issues." I HATE complaining... unless I really need to unload and that"s where I'm very fortunate having a strong support system

I've been extremely hard on my body growing up and sometimes paid the price. It's not quite as fun on "Jackass."

I grew up a "Valley Dude" (fer sure) and missed more high school than I care to admit having my body slammed on just about every surfing local from San Diego to San Franscisco. I tried to set the barefoot waterski record in long beach Marina but when the boat blew the engine just before the finish line, physics set in... but I did cross the wire at 92mph looking like a rag-doll in the dryer ;-) that's when the back and neck issues started. With lottery number 19, I was drafted in 1969 and served as an Air Force Pararescueman ("That Others May Live"), where sometimes low altitude parachute openings usually had me bouncing through trees like a monkey... until I was shot during a Search & Rescue pulling some Hot Shot A-6 Pilot who then wanted to go after the guys who shot him down. Only two of 5 survived and my right lung had to be removed from the bullet pin cushion. No one was left behind. After, I moved to Oregon, I continued Skydiving, ultralights, rock climbing... well, basically anything dangerous enough to finish the job the survivors guilt started during my Vietnam Vacation.

But Y2K had other plans for me. In October of 1999 I had two back-to-back freeway head on collisions... WITHIN 20 DAYS! That pretty much put the "P" in pain... until another head-on in 2008. For those wondering, a drunk, a hispanic and a geriatric were sited on the scene. Oh yeah... the last one started my seizures.

SO... two laminectomies, one/half R lung removal not to mention the rib cage the bullet zipped through, wrist surgery, lung surgery, 12 broken bones, 5 fractured vertebrae and enough concussions to flatten flatten a tractor tire left me with chronic pain (duh), migraines that usually end in seizures (now under control), fibromyalgia, thyroid & testosterone deficiencies, Bi-Polar disorder, chronic fatigue and lack of sleep (I count that one worse than the seizures ;-) I'm probably forgetting something but you get the drift.

IT TOOK ME FIVE YEARS TO GET ALL THIS UNDER CONTROL going from Doctor to Doctor, all hocking their opinions and wares like a Side Show Barker. If it wasn't for my girlfriend of 14 years I'd still be standing in line at some medical place. But FINELY... FINELY... I found the right combination of medication, exercise and herbal supplements where life doesn't start with the .22 pistol in the nightstand. And then they go and change the formula because of greed and misuse?!? I'm... WE are the ones who suffer. Now you know the whole story why...

"I'M A HUMAN BEING, GOD D#M*IT!... MY LIFE HAS VALUE!... I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! Except I have no choice and I will. But you all know the apprehension of the coming months... Just the thought of having to start over to find that one "cocktail" that keeps me from wanting to kill myself, makes me want to kill myself.

PS... Ann, thanks for the advice. I will try the Opana. FYI... There's no generic Oxycontin.

Me?..My husband read on Purdue's webpage that should the new formulation not work as well or patient's are having side effects then they can get the old formula..i think t takes a letter by prescribing doctor to Purdue..this is untrue? This is what is so very troubling..all the untruth's out there over the new oxycontin and what's bewildering is no one seems to know..pharmacists as well as purdue's representives. I have been told 2 different thing's by Purdue's people. But 'me' there is a generic .they are watson..ethex..apotex..Walgreens orders them. I also beleived the generic was old stock as well as being discontinued. Many many pharmacists as well as purdue's representives stated this as well. However when i went to have my prescriptions filled a few days back..i asked for brand name..the new op's and was told my insurance would not pay for them and i had to have generic filled. I was alarmed as what in the world will i do when they run out of old stock and can no longer get generic..i was told very firmly ..kinda 'don't argue with me' i know what i'm talking about..the generic is HERE and will be as long as we sell oxycontin. This has been verified by 2 walgreen's. Aparently if i understand this correctly..Purdue sell's this to a few company's and inturn they sell them as generic's. Purdue get's royalites from them. Wow..this is incredible..all the rumors flying out there. I don't know the wisdom of telling this because those abusing them will turn to generics and the deaths from overdose will continue yet this is public information and there are too many suffering for them not to know of this option. I just feel for the dilema doctor's are in...they have the D.E.A. all over them..isn't it true that if a patient dies from overdose..the D.E.A. goes after the doctor and he could lose hs career? This is the problem in our modern age..personal responsibilty..parent's go after Purdue over the death's of their children..the government goes after the doctor over the death of a patients foolishness.everyone seem's to absolve the responsbility of the patient's choice. This is what needs to be changed. Don't bind the hand's of our doctor's and make people accountable.

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. you are saying that Purdue is selling a generic threw some companies. It was brought to my attention ,even on Purdues web what they are selling, what has been discontinued etc. and all Walgreens are saying that once these OC are done the only supply will be Purdues OP's and Purdue has bought Ethex the distributor and Purdue is buying others also. now. Its really over and you will either take these pills or get something else. They will now compete for your business with OPs , Opana, the list of the new drugs with all this additive crap until you cave in and take your medicine. Its the PATENTS ITS THE MONEY ITS YOUR DOCTOR ITS YOUR GOVERMENT. And they all protect each other. My Dr. gave me Oxycodone IR after they almost put me in shock twice in less than 1 month. He finally at 3x 30mg IR a day than after that I was suppose to take 5 a day. Which would have put me at 150mg from the 160mg I once had. This friday I saw him again and he said he said no such thing 4 a day he said . Loser, I had called the nurse and she looked it up on he records and repeated it twice, why because I always make sure I do what he has me do. These idiots are not human anymore, their robots with chips put in them. i dont have a doctor anymore I can put my life in thier hands. If your look at all the pills of choice please do the research and see if not a single one is not addicting. Even this Suboxone is addicting and has a street value so what does that say. We are beening taken again and again and again. If these drug companies ever thought an addict couldn't or wouldn't find away they'd be devastated. And believe me they are counting on the money as a sure thing We are just a small prick in their mighty paw. And dont count. Keep your records and if a law suit does come and you trully have physical problems with what this change has caused you. And proof it will be in your best interest. For now I must try to get another look at what was written down and what I was told to take ( good luck they all lie for each other) because he just lowered me again to 120mg IR from 150mg IR. Its gettng crazy. All scrips go threw a computor where I go and for some reason its written up as every 6 hours. Every time. Thats why I had to call to verify what he told me in the office. But if you look at how his is done he has covered his rear. And his nurse even though she read it to me to make sure I had done this correctly, more in likely will not say anything against it. Its our lives and health and I care. I don't want to take morphine or fentanyl or suboxone why because I want to go out to the store or to a movie or have dinner with my sons. And not look like my face and reactions are in gravity mode. Yes thats how those other drugs make me feel and my sons along with myself can see it does. I also don't want to go out, yeah the pain maybe gone but so does the want to enjoy things. Oxycodone enables me to enjoy sun, rain, wind , morning, evening ,TV, shopping, visiting, Oh sorry it must sound like having a life. For me those other drugs I don't get those feelings and I don't get to much company or go out very much. So since the change and the reactions Ive had to my body Im fighting to keep the IRs they really want this time released thing with all these horrible added chemicals that add terrible problems for me. Just the knots on head, face, neck, under arms were painful. But to throw up this jellyfish sack with the medication in it still was not good. As for these companies I have typed it out before.Just look at who's buying who and why? Purdue , Endo, Pfizer, the list goes on ad they all are going to add chemicals to PATENT and keep the money flowing like a river to themselves. Purdue lost 640 million in a law suit and CEOs were in trouble for lying about the addictive product they were saying was less additive. Sadly the lie was they knew how addictive it was and were found out publicly by whisle blowers and fined and jailed I do believe. They knew and also kept trying to stop generics with more lies until caught thats why products were having hard time getting marketed. I think Amide or Roxy's were taken off because of problems in to much medication in product and patent problems from purdue stopping them. Its all big business and a stangle hold with us ants in the middle. We will not get back the pills we had without the junk in them. If you look up what your pills contain as far as product you might be surprised. Example, my 30 mg IR oxcodone had 27mg and 3mg of binder which is the 30mg pill. Look up the Hatch & Waxman Act for generics, if I read it right It gives a sway for product in generics. So it can be less cost effective cheaper but that sway is the problem to me. Sway will be product and crappy cheap binders. So how much in an 80MG Oxycotin? the Oxycodone only? Its NOT 80mg of product!!! How much binder is in that 80mg? I really want to know and everyone else should also. Why because when you are changed you need to know the conversion to be correct. Like I said they could have killed me 2 times and again he dropped me to 120mg a day from what worked fine at 150mg a day. They are scaring me. Does anyone know if I asked for my records will I recieve everything the doctor wrote and perscribed for me to take as he type into the computor. I really need that he wrote about taking 5 a day. For my log on what has happened to my since the change of these OC to OP. thank you if you responed.

me..then your pharmacist either does not know about the generic's or and i hate to acuse any of this but he's lying. Have you asked your pharmacist recently about this? Again ME..the past 2 months i have also been told the generics were old stock and will cease .there is so much disinformation out there..it appears everyone is confused . Apparently this is something that just happened..generics being on the market..i was told by 2 pharmacists in the last week that yes indeed they will have generics and they can order them. Maybe if you call other walgreens in other states..inquire..get your answer ..go back to your pharmacist..tell him to order the darn generics if he doesn't have them. Again my pharmacist at Walgreens insisted they are now selling generics. I made a point of telling her i wanted the new formulation as somewhere down the road the generics will not be available and i wanted to see if the new op's worked well for me. She insisted they now have generics. Me..have walgreens check other stores .. She made no bones about the availibilty of generics currently and in the future.

pigella..I have been on oxycontin for several years now and like everyone esle they were very well for pain without the bad side effects..one does not feel drugged on these and they can function. When the new formual came out i wasn't too concerned until i got on the internet and found everything written about them. I spent 2 months just trying to find someone who wrote in that the new op's worked well and no side effects..i found a couple but not enough to ease my mind.I called Purdue..i called Pharmacists..first calling pharmacists is a waste of time..they will not speak with you about oxycontin..i do unstand this as several pharmacy's were robbed. I was told what everyone elase is saying..no more generics after old stock runs out. This past week i was disabused of this as 2 pharmacists told me they now have availble the generic..at least Walgreens.I think K-Mart may have them as well as WalMart. These are the generics offered..ethex..watson..opotex. Purdue makes these..sells them to these distributors who inturn sells them to certain pahrmacies. Purdue gets the royalities from these distributers. I think this may be something recently as the pharmacist said..they now have them.Again she (pharmacist..and that makes 2 of them from different pharmacies) insisted that they are and will be available.

For those of you suffering badly with taking the new formula..not getting pain relief and having bad side effects ask your doctor to write 'oxcondone er'. They do have this and will continue in future. This is what pharmacist told me to do. This is oxycontin time released. You will get a generic oxycontin. There is no need for all this suffering!

I will again call the Pharm Monday and I have contact with Medicaids Pharmacist and she told me also they are no longer
I just got off Ethex, Watsons web site and they are not listed at all only thing listed is the Oxycodone not ER at all.
Maybe you are right and they just have started again but with every Pharmacutical web site I have searched in the last 20 minutes they do not exsist.
I called Walgreens also they said they no longer have the old formula.
So I am not sure what States have what but my State has none, but I will call monday and see if a generic is available as I have been going to them for over a decade and I am sure if they could get them they would, but I will check again
Thanks
I will call around the State again

I just called 5 walgreens with in 150 miles not one has the old formula and they have said generics are discontinued. I explained to them what I have been hearing and they just said they are tellling me what they know of not one company is offering a generic form at this time
But I will still call my local Pharm Monday and see if whats being said is fact as if they can order them
If not just going to have to keep the trial and error system till something works and good luck to everyone I am done posting as what will be will be and not going to spend any more time worrying about this as it just makes one sicker

Me..the last thing i want to do is give someone who is suffering false hope..yet two walgreens in my area adamently insisted the generics i got were current and available in the coming years. As i said i almost arugued with the pharmacist as i wanted the new formula so as to try them..if they didn't work then i was going to try opana..i wanted to get all the coming trial and error over with if the op's did not work ..find something else and get on with my life. Try calling pharmacy again and ask if they have oxcodone er (this is same as oxycontin but generic) I know when one calls the pharmacy and inquires about oxycontin there is hesitation and perhaps they will not be truthful to you. They are frightened. I doubt if one will find a truthful answer if one calls. Please ask about oxcodone er..i wish you could just call my walgreens . I know they would tell you what they told me.

Is anyone out there having a SLUGGISH feeling with these new oxy op's.. Also I HAVE to work and have noticed since I have started with this reformulated version, I am struggling to stand on my feet eight hours ...My job is in a casino ...I called to voice my complaint to Purdue and all the lady did was hit me with question after question then in the end said quote, We have no plans to change it' What? I didn't ask you to change it in the first place...She kinda got mad at me...People here are asking you What can YOU do to help us get the message to those people who didn't check with anyone and I believe don't know what pain is...I can tell you all one thing, KEEP CALLING AND BUG THEM EVERY CHANCE YOU GET!! I learned that from casino gaming...BUG EM

Okay. At first I was gun shy giving my name to the FDA..Ever since George Bush and the Republicans Tricky Dick too, I am leary of who promises what...But I will demand the forms from them first thing tomorrow..If I have to work in pain like this for the duration of my career, I will file disability...And I will join you all in a national lawsuit...

To Skyjester:
Your last post was the best on this site. Well said. They are making anyone who truthfully complains about this garbage OP atrocity, out to be a drug abuser!
Sad fact it that each of us has allowed it because we have remained like frightened children, afraid that if we make waves or get out of line about the pain medicine, like simply asking a question or attempting to tell a doctor that the amount is not working... that you destroyed.
Let's put aside the real people in need of the old OCs, this so called abuse resistant new OP was defeated 1 month after it came out BUT it has probably been responsible for thousands of deaths and permanent injuries, either directly from blockages or by desperate people trying to inject gel and having a stroke.... sadly all these indirect deaths will be white washed until some poor bigwigs kid winds up one of the statistics.

Don't stop calling Purdue, every chance you get, clog their phone lines as their garbage OPs are clogging peoples bodies.

Peace

I just got back from the Doctor's office that has been through thick and thin with me in regards to my pain. It is a progressive neropathy from Lupus (SLE) I have done several stays in the hospital to control the pain then this oxycontin was given to me 7 years ago. Coming from a medical background I was very reluctint to start this drug. My wish Dr. said there is a differance between an additc who abuses a drug and a person who is dependent on a drug to function. I tried it and it was like a magic pill had just been given me but in truth it was a new lease on life. I was able to go back to work part-time and feel productive in life. THANK YOU fpr taking that all away in the last 6 weeks I have been on this new septic pool of a drug. Like many others I have been on many diffrent things and the old OC worked best. It is the same thing over and over punish the ones who use it correctly. Like we are forcing the dead beats who want to sit home and collect a check from God knows where. I will not say wealfere because if you were only on wealfere you could not afford to buy the street drugs from what I have been told. It is the drug pushers who find Drs. who will give them the script and then sell the drug. Are these the people you wanted to stop so did you just wake up and decide that there is a drug problem in this country and guess what it was long before this drug came on the market. Get with the right program and go after the people who miss use the drug and leave me to hell alone. And I want to see who you did clinical trials on and how blind were you? I can't even convay how much you have hurt the people. I thought it was me who had the problem thank heavens my dr knows that I am not alone.
