When I first contacted the Pharmacist if my prescription had changed, he gave me the “abuse” speech. I suddenly aware the others behind me. I could hear their breath suddenly escape as if they were blowing out candles in disbelief hearing the complaint of a low-life addict... or so it felt. You can read what occurred after that conversation but It wasn’t until I read Gaslights’ reply that I realized the reason for the automated response given to the Pharmacies from Purdue... make those who complain suspect of that abuse. That way the complaints die quickly.

Purdue isn’t going to buckle under the complaints. They’re doing what every City Council does in every city across the nation when a stoplight will disrupt the lives of those who are impacted most ... listen, pretend they care and wait until all the complaints diminish as the bureaucracy goes on to another problem. There won’t be any class-action lawsuit, there won’t be any victory for legitimate chronic pain recipients and we just have to live with it and that’s the most frustrating part... having to go back two steps and go through all this again.

Empathy and understanding goes out to anyone having to find another alternative and I hope the solution is swift.

I do feel your pain
Prudue called me again and told me they have no plans changing the formula back
Why even call me and tell me this again
I have contacted the medica also about this
I figure a class action law suit will come but it wont stop our suffering, but maybe it will show Prudue what they have done is wrong and they might as well atke this off the market
Take Care and I hope soon we all find something that will work as well

Reply to Tom-LV: Tom, I am a 68 year old woman, and I agree completely with everything you say. We are lab rats. I dread the night coming because for some reason, it's 3x worse at night. I have scoliosis, spinal stinosis, diabetes, sjogren's, etc.

You are certainly correct that the addicts are ruining it for people with unbearable pain. I don't enjoy anything. I lie in bed all day. I have no interest in music nor tv anymore. If this isn't a class-action suit waiting to happen, I don't know of one.

I know we aren't in the same age bracket, but this affects all ages and all genders. When I got my last prescription, they were blue just like the other 80's. The difference was they were bigger and flatter, and there are 4 original OCs where you could tell the difference.

My husband called the pharmacy, and they gave the excuse they give everyone: the abuse excuse. What do you do with your life when you have no life ? I would go further, but I don't want to depress you. I have been reading scads of emails on this subject. I picked you because your mind works similar to mine. The guinea pig designation came right out of MY MOUTH ! My symptoms are the worst in my legs.

When I get up to go to the bathroom, I fall because my equilibrium is shot. I have fallen 11 times, and I know people exaggerate on emails, but this is no exaggeration. The 11th time, I broke my arm, and that's when the intractible pain started. I have horrible sweats, headaches and stomach aches like all of you, and the worst depression since my mother passed away. I've been married 50 years and have a 50 year old son, so there's nothing I can do but carry on to help them. I don't know if this is a coincidence, but I have had 2 absessed teeth since taking the OP's. It's strange that my last script of OP's were blue just like the other OC's : 80mg, but different configuration. Luckily, I have 4 of the OC's left to show the Doctor the difference, not that it would make a difference. I'm sorry this is taking so long, you are the only one I have written. God bless you and God help us all....Gaslight.

Skyjester
It sounds as you have been through the Medical professions Human experimental studies( Lab Rat)
I feel for you as I have been there hoping that the next surgery will be the one that works, but they never do they cause more problems in the long run.
I have stopped the Oxycontin all together as they where making deathly ill
I have been started on Opana ER and Its now figuring out the dosage to be equal to oxycontin
They say a 40Mg Opana is equal to a 80mg Oxycontin there is a conversion chart that the Doctors and pharmacists go by
Since its a different medication all together adjustments have to be made to get steady blood levels
The first month was a bad month after being off the Oxycontin the Opana where helping but not near what the oxycontin did so there was adjustments made, which is helping a bit more but it has only been a short time and I am hoping These will start working like the oxycontin did,
This is a new medication as over the years every medication was tried with poor results or ill effects until the oxycontin and it worked great, The Opana is OxyMorphone a new medication havent had any ill effects but getting the levels right may be a chore but at least it is of some help and hoping after time it will do the job.
Not sure if your doctor has mentioned this to you or if you have tried it, but so far It is working to a point
I wish you the best

I can’t believe what I’m hearing on this issue. Please stay on point... Purdue changed the formula (apparently at the urging of the FDA) to avoid “abuse.” Now, the legitimate users have a valid claim... this new “OP” formula IS NOT AS EFFECTIVE AS THE OLD “OC” and the side effects are worse than the norm. You have to remember that this “CRUTCH” has given lasting relief so many legitimate patients with Chronic Pain.

I am in peripheral agreement with “ME” who has raised some valid issues. “LOCKDOWN” thinks that we should “suck it up and get surgery,” the only way to eliminate the so-called “crutches” we rely on.

Clearly, “LOCKDOWN” has never had to deal with real pain...

and not just the physical pain but the mental anguish and agony from appointment after appointment listening to the inexhaustible psychobable of Doctors, Osteopaths, Naturopaths, Neurologists, Rheumatologists, Endocrinologists, Psychiatrists, (and yes) Surgeons who are all professional hucksters selling their own personal wares. I have tried EVERY alternative given just to AVOID pain medication but finally had to acknowledge “it ain’t gitt’n any better.

Like “ME,” I have been going through 12 years of every possible “fix” there is (including four surgeries after trying everything else). Now they won’t operate anymore because the scar tissue would do as much damage as the operation... yet want to implant a “Spinal Intrathecal Pump” to deliver a nerve block. If that wasn’t enough, Osteoarthritis has kicked in because of all the “trial and error” medications creating bone spurs that exacerbate and aggravate the existing problems. It has taken me 8 years of using every kind of medication, treatment and organic effort to FINALLY get the relief I need and now I have to “SUCK IT UP?!?!” Replace the first S with an F and add a U at the end.

I urge everyone to keep calling...

and if anyone knows of an effective equivalent, tell me, dump the Oxycontin and let Purdue bleed like a stuck pig.

It is so easy for one to say try something get off it well we the ones that have suffered from daily pain have few choices and not many on our oxycontin any longer because of what was dine and how it has made us ill
If Lockdown has a cure for our condition please give it to all of us that has went through surgery after surgery been used as lab rats, been cut in to have had parts of us removed had foreign parts implanted. then when it makes us that much more ill and with much more pain, then its when they medicate us so we do not have to suffer from our conditions and mistakes made during surgery
When they mess with one brain we dont know what the outcome will be but we hope its a pain free outcome
When I read remarks from people that do not have a clue what someone has been through, It sounds like prudue is on Board
I am done replying to these boards as there are some ignorent people on it , not knowing what anyone is talking about or whom is suffering

It seems there is some mix up as with me I have had brain surgeries have had implants that have caused more problems then before they did the implant had numerous surgeries to find a so called fix
There are many of us that has tried everything that the medical profession has suggested only to be let down and left with the only relief is medications.
Its great when surgerie can fix things but when surgery fails time after time and we are in more pain then from the start we are scared and left to suffer then a medication is found and then its taken
I am not sure what this last post meant, peple who suffer will try any surgery if there is hope

its not purdues perogative to understand your needs. it's for them to make money off of an opiod known to be addictive. it's your physicians. if your doc has been prescribing Oc for 5+ years the WoW. try suboxone and get off it.

the common theme is that those that have been taking oxycontin for years complain which means you have not taken the correct steps to eliminate the need to take them. if you ar ein a condition that requires them and have not gotten the means to correc the problem means you rely on this crutch to sustain life. suck it up and get surgery and fix it. the you will not need these pills that are so awful now... not one person that get the initial script to mange their pain legitimately complains jus the seasoned vet that has taken oxy for 5 years plus which means you went outsideof the intended use to begin with. if your doc has been prescribing you OC 80's for 7 years??? do the math...

No Matter what we do and no matter how many times we call Prudue They just it as another call to put on the pile
There not going to help as I am now after over a decade having to go through the trail and error procedures again trying to find something thats going to work keep the head pain controlled and just hope I do not go back to having seizures. Prude doesnt understand anyone medical condition or do they want to understand
everyone that has a legit claim Just keep searching for class action lawsuits as they are bound to be coming our way This is the only action we can take now Its ben over two months and I havent got anywhere with prudue and suffering as I did decades ago
A Law suit is not going to stop our suffering but we need to get this poison off the market
There is a pharmacutical company that is going through Trial of making a compound as close to oxycodone as possible and I Imagine once its on the Market a Extended release tablet will be made and all we can do is hope It works just like the Oxycontin has for us,
I Imagine there should be someone trying to make a extended release oxycodone also which thats what is Oxycontin Its a time released form of oxycodone and Prudue doesnt hold the patent on Oxycodone just the time release formula of oxycodone That is called Oxycontin
I am sure someone is working on a new release mechinism to add to oxycodone, I Imagine a new formula will be achieved by another company , all of us who are suffering I know this doesnt help us now, but please when you see a class action lawsuit against prudue for this poison make sure you get involved as to get what they owe us for this pain and suffering and to get This Oxycontin off the market
I have yet heard of anyone getting relief off this new form even patients that are just now being put on it are getting sick from it and these are first time users and The pain relief they are getting is no better then Darvon
Prudue really did a Job on a medication that helped many but they care more about people abusing them then the ones that need them for their suffering.
I have been calling , writing Prudue,FDA and even our Governors and senators over the past two months
I am done now as There is nothing else we can do but to wait for the Media to get involved and attorneys ready to help us
Please forgive my spelling errors

I just called and I was amazed by the response! Be prepared to give a lot of information. They will ask for your Pharmacy and Doctor as well (it's not a requirement you reply). I gave them everything because I wanted them to understand the legitimacy of my concerns. I had my complaints written down to make sure.

The new formula just doesn't work. I hope upping the dosage from 60 to 80 will help, but from what I've read it may not. What a shame the abuse of a minority has made it literally painful for the rest of us.

CALL AND COMPLAIN! IT WILL HELP!!

Purdue Safety 1-888-726-7535
FDA MedWatch 1-800-332-1088

I just finished two conversations about the quality of Purdue's new OxyContin formula. My complaint was heard by the safety Department (1-888-726-7535) but when I talked to the so-called Pharmacist to explain why it was changed, I was dismissed as another whimpering Hillbilly Heroin Addict.

I have been taking OxyContin 60mg since two serious MVA's, back-to-back, within 20 days... neither my fault. I have been doing VERY WELL on OC formula but the relief I received stopped working about three months ago. WHen I questioned the pharmacist, he explained the change and asked I give it time... which I did. I visit my Pain Specialist every three months to get new prescriptions and talked about the change. He increased the dosage and said I'm not alone. It appears I am not by all the complaints on the internet.

The only thing I can do is complain and hope my statements are heard. I urge anyone reading this to do the same.

I have also benn on 40 mg of OC fpr 5 years. I have had a double knee replacement, A double fusion decompression of my 4 thru 7 with a 6 inch cage and 7 screws. They used cadavar bones. I have severe DDD and DJD. I have bone spur claws on my spine as well. It is inhumame to let people suffer. What is the use to carry on when your quality of life isn't worth facing another day. The abusers have ruined it for the rest of us who genuinely NEED the OC.s I was recently given the OPs without being told and it explains why I wake up in the morning hurting worse than ever. It is not lasting the 12 hours timed release. My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one out there.

I'd love to know which one of these so-called experts/chemist/company cheerleaders work for Purdue or DuPont. You see this all over the net people paid to drive the topic. Next move; I'll be accused of being paranoid. They'll say no one has the money to pay people to talk all day promoting a product, political, view, religion; what have you, but obviously the top 5% still have plenty of money. My response to those of you who are paid; some of you are very good, talented writers (you go on and on about a topic even you don't believe in and that takes talent or con what ever you want to call it.). How you use it depends on you Find a different gig, be true to your craft and for God/ Allah/ Buddha or who ever or what ever you believe PLEASE, PLEASE quit working for the bad guys

OH and OPs suck

and yes I have 3 herniated, disks bulging on ever level and have had two fusions (didn't help at all. I want to keep working, but I need pain meds to continue. That's the irony of the whole thing is if you are like me and take pain meds then you are a 'no good /nitwit/ pill popping/ whore' however if you stay at home in bed or on you easy chair to avoid the pills, then you are a "no good /lazy disability /food stamp/ welfare queen. I added whore, welfare, and food stamp, and queen because if you're a woman they assume all sorts of things about you.

If you can afford it or have very go insurance Opana is about the best pain pill out there right now.

This new formula sucks, doesnt work had my prescription filled in september been taking it two weeks and have nothing but bad dreams no pain relief.Plain and simple this is rat poison Purdue lied the first time about it not being addictive they can lie about anything.BOTTOM LINE WE THE PEOPLE WHO NEED PAIN RELIEF ARE PURDUES TRIAL GUIENEA PIGS IF YOU MAY I HAT PURDUE IF IT AINT BROKE FIX IT THERES SO MUCH HEROIN IN THIS COUNTRY IF PEOPLE WANT TO DO IT THEY WILL IF PEOPLE WANT TO ABUSE PILLS THEY WILL.THIS IS LIKE SHOOTING THE GOOD GUY US THE PEOPLE WHO NEED MEDS PEOPLE WILL ALLWAYS ABUSE DRUGS GAMBLING FOOD WHY MUST THE HURT THE ONES WHO NEED IT........DIE PURDUE!!!!!!!!!

So let me see if I have this right...the FDA forces Purdue to create a new formula because the druggies are dying. Did anyone force Marlboro to recreate their tobacco? How about Budweiser, did they have to change their formula because of alcoholism??? I just don't get it. All I know is I don't snort my medication and it was all that worked for me. These op's definitely do not work...it's like taking aspirin only it upsets my stomach even more.

purdue you are not going to stop people from abusing drugs all you are doing is hurting the people that really need them and your own company lets think about it all you did was drive prices up for the origanl ocs and caused people to start doing heroin agian great job there has already been one 18 yr old girl who overdosed and died from heroin where i live before you changed the ocs i had never even seen heroin in this hick town of mine at least when people was abusing ocs we new what was in them you tried to turn them to gel we cooked them and you can be someone will find a way to abuse these op

I also have been on OC'S for 12 years. I had a fall at work and after 4 pain centers and shots in my back the Doctors decided I have RSD. Pain 24-7. Now with the new OP'S I have less reliefe and sick for 2 hours after taking them. WHAT CAN PEOPLE DO THAT NEED OC'S NOT OP'S???

I agree me..i think we as patients should begin to insist that Purdue take their oxycontin off the market completely and please people refuse to purchase anything from this company. To make a statement such as the women from Purdue did today..stating those who are expressing alarm over op's is manipulating their company so as to change the op's as fact is a non truth..how can they say such a thing!! One concern i had which i shared with this women..was..is it possible that after taking dose..4x daily for a week..could these tablets due to digestive problems remain in digestive tract building up. enough to cause a blockage? Her answer? Yes it's possible. So what happen's if a week of taking meds..that is 28 pills..sits in digestive tract..i shudder.I have been hospitalised twice ..once with intestinal blockage..another with inflamation..high fever..Both experiences were simply miserable and i do not wish to ever suffer through those illnesses again. It's all about greed..Again..i don't know what to think but the wisest course of action is to stop purchasing anything from Purdue.

There has been a reformulation of this drug but due to a Patent pending Prudue is not releasing all the information of what one is ingesting, in fact it has caused digestive track issues and Vomiting and all patients have the right to know what they are taking in case of adverse effects, allergic reactions ETC
This is one for the courts to decide
Many people are suffering from chronic pain in which in fact the old formula did help the new formula has caused more issues and more pain and undue stress and much more suffering in their lives
Prudue may seem to think they found a loop hole but it will come out if its in Indivdual suits or class action suites The truth will be known The testing on the formula was a two year study not the Norms
There has to be something done where a company can not use patients as lab experiments and not label a medication that may cause other chronic problems that will later be found that this new Formula has caused
When something is added to something no matter for what reason Its been reformulated Prudue may have another word for this , but none the less its reformulated
WE can just all wait and see what will come of this
The media I figure by now knows whats going on and once they are able to get the proof they need
I feel the broadcast will begin as it did when the addicts and Junkies where in the new
Now the patients who are suffering the ones that their lives have been turned upside down will be herd
I just pray there are no deaths from the results of this new formula or whatever Prudue wants to call it.
I was deathly ill from it and I have had a set back in which it has been several years before this new Formula things had improved, but after a few days of taking this New Formula or what Purdue calls OP and again back in the trail and error to see if we can get my condition back under control
Why change the OC to OP if there has not been a reformulation add one different ingredient and its a new formula. Its like saying a corn dog is a hot dog sure it has a hot dog in it but there is a new Formula that coats it and its called a corn dog . you can say there is a hot dog in it but you can not call it a hot dog
I guess only time will tell as Prudue may never release the old ones back and may of us are just going to keep suffering , unless God willing they find a cure to our Illness That would be in a perfect world and we can all hope for cures but can not count on them
we once counted on a medication that many of us can no longer take and there is something that can be done, but Do not count on it
Law suites will not give us any relief its not going to stop our suffering, but just maybe Prudue will take this medication off the market or rename it they changed the OC to OP so what is the real name of this new medication
We who all suffer will just have to wait the ones of us who have been on every medication there is and found only the oxycontin to help as many of us take it in combination with other medications and have found out when one medication is taken away and other medications have been tried as a alternative and we still are suffering, Its only Common sense that There has been a change in the formula or we would still be taking it today
Maybe another pharmacutical company will come out with a new medication that works like the old Oxycontin, but we can not count on it
WE just need to accept that Prudue is going to do what they want and they do not have the patients in mind just the addicts and junkies and we cant Blame the FDA they did not reformulate this , but the FDA can take it off the Market at least so Prudue doesnt have everyone Believing this is the same medication
Its not OC its OP
