Oxycodone/percocet Generics! Which Are Most Effective? (Page 2) (Top voted first)

First, let me start by saying that I am somewhat opiate naive. I am not in pain management and hopefully won't need to be. I've had scripts here and there for norco and percocet. It is the generic percocet, or more specifically the oxycodone, i'd like to discuss here.

Over the past year i've had issues (such as a broken elbow, recurring kidney stones, and a staghorn lodged in my renal pelvis [kidney]), that have lead to several prescriptions for percocet from a total of 4 different manufacturers. Mallinckrodt 10/325, Amneal 7/325, Rhodes Pharmacy 10/325, and AuroBindo 10/325.

I've read a lot of reviews about the aforementioned generic manufacturers. The majority of them have been negative especially for Rhodes. Mallinckrodt and AuroBindo are the only two that seem to have, at least, a couple of favourable reviews.

I've got a new script for a week's supply of percocet 10/325. The primary pharmacy that I go to is Kroger (my local CVS carry Rhodes). Kroger carries the U17 Aurobindo which seem to help with pain but cause other issues; tinnitus, anxiety, drowsiness, agitation and at times nausea. Those are things I can deal with but I'd rather not.

Does anyone have any input on what they find to be the best generic manufacturer of oxycodone? I've read about endocet, actavis, watson, kvk, and others but none of them seem to be readily available in my area.

These are what i've tried in order from best to worst:

1. Mallinckrodt - good pain relief, seemingly no side effects, mild euphoria. (Unfortunately I cannot find Mallinckrodt anywhere around my area.)

2. (tie) Amneal/Aurobindo - Kind of a toss up between these two. They seem to work for the pain but have noticeable side effects. Auro (effects listed above) and Amneal both seem to cause anxiety/panic. Profuse sweating and itching have also been experienced with Amneal although not with Auro.

3. Rhodes Pharmaceuticals - I've read some horrible reviews for these. While I don't think they're as bad as some of the reviews, they were definitely very weak compared to the others i've tried. Sort of hit and miss though as one pill would make me feel high and another would make me feel sick (while not doing much for the pain). A plethora of side effects with these as well with malaise and dysphoria; the ultimate worst!

Okay now that you've heard my subjective opinion and rant, can anyone out there offer their opinion on these generic oxycodone/percocet manufacturers. Are there any generic brands I'm missing or never heard of? What's the most effective for killing pain with the least side effects? (I'm taking them for pain).

P.S. I'm going to have to fill at Kroger and get the Auro U17 regardless but would like to know for future reference. Thanks in advance! I'm in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.

Stay away from Camber mfr! Not sure what this is....NO PAIN RELIEF and makes people very sick!

Thanks to all who gave the heads up about Camber. I've heard nothing but TERRIBLE things about them... and Rhodes. It seems that pretty much any type of "percocet" nowadays sucks.

Almost as if they're deliberately putting in an *extra* ingredient to make people feel sick. I remember getting some Mallinckrodt percs back in the day and they were great!

Even after taking a few more of the qualitest 10/325 I recently got they started making me sick and panicky. Still worked for the pain but made me feel like crap. Percs used to make people feel good.

I have been taking10/325 Camber for 2 months. The first month I took them they didn’t do much for the pain and my stomach was upset all the time. Thought maybe I was getting sick. Took them for the second month and now I have horrible stomach ache/some heartburn,headaches(I have never had problems with headaches) nausea,tired all the time. Stay Away From This Brand !!!!

The reason a big deal is being made about opioids is the fact that some states are putting out fake numbers of opioids deaths caused by prescriptions opioids in order to sue the makers of opioids. They found out they can make a lot of money that way so they put out these fake numbers to make their case look good. Binge drinking in dorms rooms shotgunning a quart of #7 jack standing on your head after popping a couple of adderalls is ok as long as you don't take opioids with it. If you did you would be looking for that happy feeling and that's against the law. Have a good day bubblewrap. Time for me to go back to jail, they probably missed me by now.

Out of all the generic brands for oxycodone/ roxycodone which brand is the best quality in your opinion? I’ve been a chronic pain patient for 5 years now and I’ve taken the same brand from kvk forever and recently I picked up from s different pharmacy and I could tell a huge difference.
Questions #1 why does one not work as well as the other?

#2 if you are s chronic pain patient and have had this same problem can you telll me which generic brand has worked the best for you? And what pharmacy is that brand located?

#3 since this opioid epidemic have you noticed that doctors and pharmacies treat you differently than other whom do not take pain medication? I have left my doctors office crying because one little junkie punk kid has lied, and screwed The doctor over that now they believe all of us are liars, addicts, and abusers. One person literally ruins it for all of us!! Ever since this opioid uproar my medical care/treatment from doctors has gone way down or diminished. I personally hate going to the doctors for my pain meds now because they just think we’re liars now.

Can someone share their stories and also share the best generic oxycodone/roxicodone with me?

1st of all, Percocet, like you said, also has 325mgs of acetaminophen, so for example, if you take 1 every 4 hrs. you’re ingesting 1300mgs of acetaminophen which may be causing all of the adverse reactions...You should tell your Dr. that you want not Percocet but pure Oxycodone...I’m pretty sure they come in 10, 20 & 30mgs & are for instant relief...Also called IR’s...Then you’re getting the more pure Opiate as apposed to the other ingredients that are in Percocet ...Talk to your Dr. about it...I’m sure he’s heard this same circumstance with many patients...Good Luck & I hope you can get relief.!.!.!

Herb, my doctor put me on the oxycodone for THAT very reason. Tylenol. She figured that if I need them long term, she would rather see me off the constant Tylenol. Now, if she could actually do something about these manufacturers skimping on the opioid that goes into the oxy!

What really peeves me is the power pharmacists now have. They can override your doctor. Doc is kind enough to treat someone's chronic pain, but pharmacist doesn't like the way you look. They are "uncomfortable" filling your script. So guess what? They don't have to. It is now up to them. Well that may work as a deterrent for an abuser about 1% of the time. Pharmacist just may be right. But the other 99% of his decisions to turn away people.... he is just depriving law abiding, rule following chronic pain patients, and overriding doctor recommendation that those people have meds needed for their daily functionality. That is so wrong. Pharmacist can refuse to fill ANYTHING pain related he is not comfortable with. And they do.

Its not so easy to "just take more" cause then you run short and many Dr's will NOT refill early, And you sign a contract stating such. I was the victim of a generic that shorted the active ingredient in a pain med and its not fun as we count of the relief a certain med will afford us. Of course my Dr. did not want to hear it but he told me that they are "allowed" to be within a 20% fudge factor. That can make a HUGE difference in a chronic pain sufferers day.

Well I ended up asking CVS if they had any other 10/325 percocets on hand. Turns out they have Qualitest. I had them once; a small script I got from the ER in 2015. I do remember that they didn't make me sick and seemed to help with the pain. So i'll be filling it there and getting Qualitest. Most of the reviews i've read about qualitest have been good.

What confuses me, though, is that Qualitest no longer exists, does it? I know Endo bought them out and that they have some kind of affiliation with Pars Pharmaceuticals. Apparently they still produce pills with the Qualitest "vintage" V on them. I'm assuming anyway. Haven't actually seen them yet.

Does anyone have any further information on Qualitest 10/325 Oxycodone/Paracetamol, or any other updates on Oxycodone or Percocet generics?

I have been taking opiate pain meds for 10 years, and I also get kidney stones. Please be aware that acetaminophen has been
known for liver/ kidney problems, and should be avoided if possible, especially if you drink alcohol to any extent.

Larry, glad to hear you are in virtually no pain because a 5mg tab is about 3mg of hydrocodone, maybe you can get with Herb and he can turn you on to some "herbs". You could also try taking an eye of a newt, an owls feather and a crows foot grind them up and sprinkle in on your head sounds like where your problem is. Oh and start with a low dose at first, the owls foot is habit forming.

Your CONGRESSMAN along with congressmen from states like West Virginia, Florida and a few other states are the reason for the war on opioids. They came out with the fake numbers of prescription opioids deaths so they can sue the makers of opioids. I don't think you will get any help from your congressman they are against pain meds. Yep. I get the 10 mg, without tylenol. You can always add it if you want it. But, Herb, you must not be reading these posts!!! Your typical generic DOES NOT CONTAIN 10 mg. They are cutting the amount to make a cheaper pill. My Rhodes Pharma, oxycodone, tylenol free, tiny pill, very little fillers, very little opiate. I know they are weak! If it used to work well...then suddenly it does not, ITS WEAKER! I'm no einstein, but geesh! The manufacturers are allowed a variance of 20%. And you can bet it won't be in in favor of the CPP.

And before you give me the science of "tolerance"....I just want to say that each refill I get is after 10 days of being off my pain med. So, it should KICK a little with my first few of the month. But, guess what? It doesnt. It doesn't kick. I look for nothing, no high, except that pleasant sense of well being when the pain fades. You must be relatively new to the forum. Keep reading. You will learn much. I had NO idea that a pill that is designated 10mg, could be anything less than 10mg. Now I know.

Thunderheart. Yep, profiling. Legal profiling. Just read the posts from legitimate patients who have been turned away. We may show up, looking a bit ragged due to feeling like crap, but hopeful, because our scripts make us hopeful that for as long as they last, if effective, we will be able to do at least the minimum. Get up, shower, tidy our homes, go to work. But.....if we have been out for a few days, or weeks, we have been struggling, and it shows. We just may look like a dish rag. Pharmacists look at us like druggies, anxious for our fix. NOT TRUE. But that's not their problem. All they know, unfortunately, is what they see. The only and best thing we can do to help ourselves is to put some effort into our appearance. Not exhibit our anxious anticipation of relief our meds promise. They have them, we want them. Be very pleasant, respectful and do not appear needy. Guess what????? That still may not work! Your mgs. may seem uncalled for (what do they know, huh?). Our doctor may be blacklisted for some reason having nothing to do with us. If we have recently taken a dose, we may have dilated pupils, which is normal to see with pain meds. Again, they can refuse for any reason.

My experience with Amneal was TERRIBLE! My pharmacy switched brands on me without letting me know. Apparently, all pharmacists seem to think that all generics are the same when they definitely are not. I was on 7.5/325 and previously was on Alvogen, which didn’t cause me any problems physically, however, I have not been on them long enough to tell you if the pain control is better with another brand or not. After taking just one Amneal I got a bad headache and stomach pain and they did nothing for pain. I have spent hours on different forums trying to find the OVERALL best one as far as no terrible side effects and decent pain control. The only one that seems to get the best overall reviews is Endocet. But even with all the positive reviews on it, I have also found a few negative ones too. The only way you truly will know is by trial and error, unfortunately, because if they don’t work for you, you are stuck with them for a month. I was recently given an increase in dosage to 10/325 and found a pharmacy that could order the Mallinckrodt brand. I thought they would be fine as I had been taking the 525/325 with no problems. But I was wrong. I have been so sick all month with stomach pain, headaches, increased pulse, general feeling of having the flu and other odd symptoms that I have never experienced before. I can’t take an entire pill ~ I have to cut them in half or thirds and I’m only doing that so I don’t go into complete withdrawal. So, bottom line is that every person reacts differently due to metabolism and perhaps certain allergies to the fillers used. I would stay away from any pills made in India. Also, there can be huge differences in how you react to dosage ~ one dose might work fine, but a higher dose might not even though it’s the same brand. Do your research and when you find one that you feel will be the best choice, you can call various pharmacies to see if they can order that brand if your pharmacy can’t. If you’re lucky, you will find one that can do it. There are no easy answers, but I think if you read enough reviews, you will at least know the ones to stay away from. Amneal has by far had the most complaints.

I'm prescribed up to 4 Percocet(10/325) daily as needed. I realized that some of the pills truly are 100% but more are often not. Has anyone notice that? As far as doubling up, sometimes I take 2 twice a day, 2 in the morning and 2 late afternoon so that I won't run out and that seems to work sometimes. I also take Flexeril (muscle relaxer) if it wasn't for the Flexeril, I would be in so much more pain but they make me very drowsy.

THAT is NOT the case, YOUR body is building a tolerance to the dosage and wants a higher dose. It happens when you are on a medication for so long. That is why my Dr forces me to take a "vacation from a medication and changes it to another one every 6 months and rotates them. " At least , that is what my Pain Management Dr does... to avoid needing an increase in dosage and being addicted to a certain drug. He cycles 4 Drugs . I have 2 Long lasting Drugs [ER-extended Release] that are taken every 12 hrs that he rotates and then there are 4 others shorter lasting ones that are taken every 8 hrs. that he rotates within them. I have my blood work done every 6 mos to make sure my organs are functioning properly. I have a signed narcotics agreement and have random urine drug tests.

They know EVERY pill that I take. If you take something for a cold that week or since your last screening you better say so, sometimes things come up false positive. Better be safe then sorry!

This past year the DEA Has made Nationwide changes , I do not know if It has taken place yet but some Pharmacies will only dispense ONE WEEK at a time- CVS and I believe Walgreen's is next.

Also, whoever said Pharmacists do not know the difference between manufacturers you are really wrong and don't know what you are talking about. Maybe the "Techs" do not. But the Pharmacists know more about these drugs than the Doctors or even the people YOU are asking on these posts about!! Seriously , IF you have a question about ANY medication YOU are taking FIRST REFER TO THE SHEET OF PAPER THAT CAME WITH YOUR PILLS!! OR Pill bottle- it has identifier makings, side effects, manufactures name, what to avoid, common FAQ, etc... poison control # , and your Pharmacist name and # call them first. If you are also having severe problems STOP taking them call 911 NOW. I read someone tell someone to take half the dose when it sounded like a life threatening emergency and go to an ER! Just because it is an antibiotic and they say take the whole bottle and make sure you finish the pills... well, not if you have a rash and you feel your breathing has changed! ??

I've been taking potassium citrate (Urocit-K). My stones aren't common, they're uric acid. The Urocit-K helps to balance the PH of my urine so that it's less acidic and more alkaline. This prevents the uric acid from building up to form stones. I also supplement with magnesium for other reason related to healthy brain chemistry/activity. Regardless I had a ESWL procedure and the issue has been resolved. Thanks though.

Having a handful of prescriptions for legitimate reasons over the period of a year is hardly chronic nor even nearly enough to build a tolerance. You're apparently not a doctor of any sort (not that your lackluster writing didn't give you away). It doesn't take someone with chronic pain to notice when medication is not effective and causing unpleasant side effects.

I am opiate naive in the sense that over my 40 years on this planet i've taken, in total, maybe a total of 2 months supply of opiates spaced out over years. I've never had more than a 7 day supply. I'm not in chronic pain. Your holistic approach is all nice and dandy for some pseudo-intellectual hypothesis. Simply asking a question on a medicine website does not equate to obsessing. What does some obsessive is the ignorance in your reply.

I'm talking about dealing with acute pain. I'm not trying to get into some protracted discussion with some judgmental blowhard (You, Tim) about intense pain brought on as a result of short term injury/complication. This type of, acute, pain cannot be controlled through an EEG (biofeedback) or by seeing a pain psychologist (what a pseudo-science). Thanks for your input but quite frankly it's just a waste of cyberspace; void of any substance much like that space in between your ears. ;)
