Oxycodone/percocet Generics! Which Are Most Effective? (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHello,
First, let me start by saying that I am somewhat opiate naive. I am not in pain management and hopefully won't need to be. I've had scripts here and there for norco and percocet. It is the generic percocet, or more specifically the oxycodone, i'd like to discuss here.
Over the past year i've had issues (such as a broken elbow, recurring kidney stones, and a staghorn lodged in my renal pelvis [kidney]), that have lead to several prescriptions for percocet from a total of 4 different manufacturers. Mallinckrodt 10/325, Amneal 7/325, Rhodes Pharmacy 10/325, and AuroBindo 10/325.
I've read a lot of reviews about the aforementioned generic manufacturers. The majority of them have been negative especially for Rhodes. Mallinckrodt and AuroBindo are the only two that seem to have, at least, a couple of favourable reviews.
I've got a new script for a week's supply of percocet 10/325. The primary pharmacy that I go to is Kroger (my local CVS carry Rhodes). Kroger carries the U17 Aurobindo which seem to help with pain but cause other issues; tinnitus, anxiety, drowsiness, agitation and at times nausea. Those are things I can deal with but I'd rather not.
Does anyone have any input on what they find to be the best generic manufacturer of oxycodone? I've read about endocet, actavis, watson, kvk, and others but none of them seem to be readily available in my area.
These are what i've tried in order from best to worst:
1. Mallinckrodt - good pain relief, seemingly no side effects, mild euphoria. (Unfortunately I cannot find Mallinckrodt anywhere around my area.)
2. (tie) Amneal/Aurobindo - Kind of a toss up between these two. They seem to work for the pain but have noticeable side effects. Auro (effects listed above) and Amneal both seem to cause anxiety/panic. Profuse sweating and itching have also been experienced with Amneal although not with Auro.
3. Rhodes Pharmaceuticals - I've read some horrible reviews for these. While I don't think they're as bad as some of the reviews, they were definitely very weak compared to the others i've tried. Sort of hit and miss though as one pill would make me feel high and another would make me feel sick (while not doing much for the pain). A plethora of side effects with these as well with malaise and dysphoria; the ultimate worst!
Okay now that you've heard my subjective opinion and rant, can anyone out there offer their opinion on these generic oxycodone/percocet manufacturers. Are there any generic brands I'm missing or never heard of? What's the most effective for killing pain with the least side effects? (I'm taking them for pain).
P.S. I'm going to have to fill at Kroger and get the Auro U17 regardless but would like to know for future reference. Thanks in advance! I'm in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.
Re: David (# 7)
I get really bad gout flare ups too. Gout is tricky because not even the strongest of narcotics work for gout pain. The only thing that i've found to relieve a severe gout attack is prednisone. Gout is up there with one of the most painful things a human being can endure.
I'm sorry to hear that the oxycodone and percocets aren't managing your pain from your other injuries. I don't really know what to say because I haven't walked in your shoes or had ongoing chronic pain. Hopefully someone out there can offer you some good advice. Have you talked with your doctor about your meds no longer effectively working for your pain?
Re: bubblewrap (# 10)
I've taken watsons in the past and they seem to do well relieving pain . i haven't noticed too many side effects other than itchy nose and speed my heart rate up . but that was before the fda made them cut down on the strength of pain relievers/ opiods
Re: Mason (# 8)
When I had a bout of gout, I first researched it and found the best thing was tart cherry juice. I purchased it from Amazon! It was in a black and red bottle from a Sports Med place? Black not too large oval pills that worked very well and also help my insomnia! Good luck!
I got hit by an 18 wheeler and have had 2 back surgeries. I have 7 Titian rods in my back. I very taken everything but Percocets. For me. Nyucenta and hydrocodone and 80 morphine takes the edge off except for Cold weather
Re: LI (# 17)
Do they still make the yellow Endocet? I thought Endo got bought out by Pars who currently make the yellow qualitest 10/325? If they do still make the Endo's I couldn't find them anywhere in central Indiana. I called around the greater Indianapolis area. Couldn't find any Mallinckrodt either.
Re: marin5 (# 16)
I've actually bought the tart cherry juice concentrate but it didn't seem to help. Of course when I get gout attacks they are really bad. I'll check out the pill form though. Worth a shot! Thanks
Re: LI (# 17)
the endocet 712 is the same thing as the t194 made by the same co. same fillers down to the #10 yellow dye. ENDO PHARM made a deal with Walgreen
I had Walgreens order the Amneal for me. Hope this helps.
Kimber (# 20) & bubblewrap (# 10) --
And referring to Camber Pharmaceuticals, that I just picked up from Times Pharmacy on the Windward side, Koolau, as this was my 1st time this Camber brand I believe had received from distributors, McKesson. Camber's origin, India so like anything else, these foreign countries make prices much more lucrative for profit margins. If you think Amneal is garbage, try Camber, it's definitely not worth taking.
Re: Marvin (# 12)
T194
Marvin this is a pain med site ,if you don't take them go play with your self
Re: Herb (# 30)
I don't know herb, have you ever had the DAN SOMA'S AS COMPARED TO THE BRAND? Maybe it could the coating on the brand Soma's but the DAN's used to kick butt for a comparison and as everyone had told me. Maybe because without the coating, they would act much faster by allowing it to get to the bloodstream .
But, I wonder how you guys are still prescribed opiates at all. Around here in New Orleans, if you don't pay 200.00 for a pain clinic. No doctors that are insured will prescribe them unless you've had major surgery in the hospital. Then you don't get too many after. Insured clinics all think that shots are the solutions to everything. Needless to say with all the problems on my body, I would need shots in every part of my body.
PS. I wrote to my congressman about this and have not mailed it yet because I would like to use some of the people in this forum to copy and paste to add to the problems and it would have to be under them and D.c consent. Maybe you all are not ready for this yet.. But it is supposed to be here soon. Maybe there are doctors out there that do not care about the DEA nor the Orgs that are trying to ban them. Bless them.. They are real the doctors, not the police.
Re: nomas (# 49)
Sassy G. Lol..this is a med site...if you guys aren't in PAIN... And Just Pill Seeking ... Take your drug orders to the pharmacy.. I am ONE that has been HIT by an 18-Wheeler. With THREE BACK Surgeries Later...
Mason,
I too have been reading bad reviews for Rhodes, though, I've not experienced the migraines, other than what comes during withdrawl. When I first started getting oxycodone 10mg, they always let me know when they kicked in, but being very new to opioids, I didn't take note of the brand. Had no idea some were weaker than others. I got SO much done on those!! Stripped and refinished kitchen cupboards, all of my dining room furniture, cabinets, chairs, table. Now I am lucky to get laundry, and dishes done. Heck, my shower, at times, takes monumental effort, lol. Stuck as I am with them, Rhodes, I have to say I am grateful for the minimal relief. Still better than just taking tylenol. I can not use nsaids, because of other med I'm on. I used to get a little relief, at least for daily headaches, from ibuprophen. Now, it's oxy, or nothing. Oxy doesn't interfere with meds I take due to stroke, blood clots, aneurysm.

Thank you Herb! Rereading my post, I thought I may come off as rude and thought you would not reply.
About "variance" in amount (mg)......You would THINK by law, if it states 10, it must be 10. That would be only logical. But.l..One poster found, I believe on Rhode's own ingredient list that the variance option for their 10 mg, is used by them. They state in writing that their 10 mg, has actually 8.5mg. Not 10. I will hunt around for that particular post. If anyone else sees it, please cut and paste. I did not just pull 'variance 20%" out of thin air. This is real, real wrong, and REALLY happening In the generics market. And most likely utilized in pain meds, or possibly anxiety meds primarily. I had a tough time swallowing that, thinking oh great, another conspiracy being tossed around. It just CANT BE HAPPENING! Wrong.
Now, I have to do some digging. I hate not having a good cite at my fingertips. Sorry.
Herb (# 58) --
Herb, found it on the thread...Rhodes oxycodone. Seems it was NOT on a Rhodes website. I was wrong. But in the application for Rhodes' generic oxycodone, for FDA approval they stated the mount of oxy in their 10mg, as 8.5. FDA approved it.

Herb
I would actually be happy to be wrong. It's a bit distressing to not be able to trust my medicine label. If the post I referred you to is incorrect, and not just according to someone's opinion, or sense, I would like to KNOW so I won't pass around falsehoods. In our ire about the medical industry, it's easy to spread opinion as fact. But...since hearing the 10-20 variable active ingredient practice from so many different sources, I found it at the very least, plausible. As I understood the post, the mgs. were revealed as part of the approval process required by FDA. Again, anyone, correct me if I'm wrong!
Re: JMJ (# 62)
Eh, how Ya’ doin’.!.?.! My advice would be to call the Drug & Poison Center to get any answer about any drug.!.!.!
Re: bubblewrap (# 63)
Thatd right!! These punks that are going to get an education in college are using drugs for sport!! So much for higher education!! Its not the medicine!! It is the abusers!!
Re: JMJ (# 75)
Well, now if I were you, I’d try to get the brand of med’s that you like best, but if you get what is or seems to be less potent just take more...Another thing I was thinking is May your building up a tolerance for the Opiate & require more to get the same effect that you Initially got.!.!.! JMO
