Has anyone had a fentanyl patch? Do they work or are there any problems with them? My pain doctor saw me for one last time before he is closing his practice and said he would like to try that for me but since he will be gone, in two weeks he can't monitor it or help if it doesn't work or if I have problems. He is referring me to pain clinic at the hospital where he will be giving injections. He isn't sure he can help me there but it's some place that might have possibilities. At least I don't have to start out new with someone who doesn't know my history although I won't see much of him. There may be the possibility of getting the patch there and would just like to know the experencies of others. I talked to a guy in his office for a just a few minutes and he said it had made all the difference for him. Would really like some feedback on this. Thanks.

Ladyann the fentanyl patch did not help me and is also the med I mentioned in my recent post that my skin has an allergy to and the Pasadena clinic continued to prescribe to me anyway even after I showed her my skin where the reaction was while I still wore the patch.

Thank you so much! My doctor was smart (which I knew) to not give it to me. He said he wouldn't be around if it didn't work. I do have trouble with adhesives - even band-aids. I have lido-derm patches and flexor patches but can't wear them that often so I was worried about even keeping them on and wondering if the medication was worth it to try. (The worst Christmas of my life was when I lost my estrogen patch after surgery which has nothing to do with this, but that's just how much trouble I have wearing patches. I can't only stand my tens unit so long and even then, I burn my back because I have to turn it so high. I really need to know how it worked for others and thank you very much for replying to me. By the way, a federal legislator called me yesterday and said this was all on the state level. They can't do anything about it but said the state was beginning to realize it wasn't working. By the time they do, all the doctors will be gone and we'll be invalid's by then. That Pasadena place is awful. Good luck to you in finding help.

to Scuttyby? I totally agree-WE the People W/CHRONIC pain.have to band together.Ive suffered so long, I HAVE complied with all i was told to do.I either find help&the dr. is shut down or 1 died.etc.NOW my reg.M.D.doesnt care! But where do We start? I believe they just want the Sick, disabled or elderly to just die off!The click of reg. drs. in this town stick together&only A certain FEW get what they WANT&the half dead&hurting ,get downgraded, sent down the rd. to a specialist, where they dont listen or one dr said to me,(in the ER) while i had shingles& a bad attack of pain SO bad from nerve impingement&more, I TALK U LISTEN.i am 52 yrs old&my dayghters were w/me,he said the same to them& even commented on my oldest weight&how old she Looked! I got an x-ray&had a script of pain meds in my purse!I said" am i being profiled or what? He said why are U here? well When your leg locks up due to scatiac nerve,ALL day& they pain was THE Worst.U are scared& want to know how U are Worse etc.Not downgraded! i could write a book,I have so many stories to tell.I have epilepsy,a kidney removed, spine cauterization surgery, etc.I NEED HELP now.there is a mass in my colon&twisted parts/ im in pain from that daily&had to go to another state(ER) to find THAT out.The people who could work&would not& started selling Oxycontin in Ky. ruined ALL in ky. Im about to give up trying. If My daughter had not lost her Dad last yr,& i had NO faith.i would be gone,by my own doing. But ive been through more surgeries, ailments, etc than my share.Ive seen a lady leave a DENTIST office w/perocet script for a FILLING& another(that was in the click),have 2 molars?removed&No Pain meds@ all.& he was a decent guy.as far as i knew.but I dont care What anyone did before, but it sure effected all in small towns in this state. WHAT or where do we began to fight? i dont Know?i can barely drive anymore.but by no means is my family poor or stupid enough to sell prescription meds.Just SOME 1 out there tell me who i write, call or complain to first? Thank You. MY LIFE DOES DEPEND on this any info will help get ME started.

Moving to Cincinnati area and looking for a pain clinic. Willing to travel to Lexington

There is one in Lexington if you're willing to travel every month, undergo tests that are not necessary every year and you or your insurance will pay outrageous fees. They're being checked for fraud but probably doing enough to stay legal. Expect to wait over two hours and not treated the nicest even though you have records that go back for years. Southern IL is a much better bet for you and probably just as close.

I live in broward county fl. Just moved and no doctor will help me with my pain medicine. I do not have insurance either yet. I have serious back and neck injuries. My doctor in CA always took care of my condition. Could you help me with that doctors number in broward?

I'm a doctor and I live with chronic, significant pain. As you can imagine I have a different perspective on the true chronic pain "person". Having had some time under my belt PLUS also having a decade of chronic pain gives me a little better understanding, I think. In very general terms, I believe that there are very few things that require use of long term narcotics. This is what I think and it's colored by both being a patient and the things I've learned by both teaching and learning. For long term the pain should be daily, non-relapsing pain. The patient should sign a contract that allows for 1) Only one pharmacy, one doctor for all controlled meds
2) all pills should be counted on different days, once each month, for the first six months
3) after the first six months, discretion is given to whether a "medication holiday" is needed. A patient who is truly worried about only long term pain should support this idea. If those three are not squeaky clean it would establish a "warning sign" but cannot be used to document a "refusal sign" if alone.
1) patient fails a drug screen.
2) patient needs early scripts.
3) patient does not pass pill count.
There are two documented "warning signs" before a "Refusal sign".

This is what I hold myself and my patients to and it is my belief that it fulfills the "hippocratic oath" in medical school, to the fullest intent.
I would be happy to answer any questions, but will do so in this forum when I get my break. I have a real passion and compassion for the chronic pain patient. Luckily, I don't see things entirely on a patients view, which I think helps. Chronic pain can be life consuming if its given the opportunity.

To the doctor; You said things I've been saying on this forum for ages but maybe some people are so consumed with their pain that they are just hurting and angry. Many of us know the laws and we have been through so much that we've heard all this. I've had doctors that suggested a "drug holiday" but discovered I couldn't handle it. I may have said before that I laid on the floor and cried. I told my husband that if living with this pain was my life, then I didn't want to live. I have a great deal of faith and my husband used that to help me. My doctors found it didn't work. I use one pharmacy, I signed the drug contract and my pills can be counted at anytime. I take random drug tests and have never failed one. I would love to get off the pills and my doctors are working with my insurance company for botox injections. I have a chronic muscle spasm that doctors were afraid was cancer but it wasn't. They can't check KASPAR on me; I have nothing to hide. I did the tests and I've never objected to any treatment they want to try. Because of that, I know what works and what will give me some quality of life. I have a doctor who wants to live up to his oath and he also is a man of faith. He is truly troubled and frustrated. He says he knows another doctor who is an excellent doctor who can't take it anymore. She has thrown up her hands and said she can't help people who are truly in need because of the medical board on her shoulder all the time. My doctor and the other one closed their practice because of the government. The government people I've talked to say they are confused because the laws are simple and we have a shortage of doctors and they don't want to lose them. So apparently the Medical Board doesn't understand either side. It's strange to hear your doctor say that he just wants to live up to his oath and help his patients, who has complied and he knows what works for them, but he is afraid to because of the Medical Board. He's never been sanctioned but he's had to go before the Board to validate things a few times. He says it's not fun. So you seem to know the same issues. I know there are some who abuse the laws (and to be honest, I don't trust these pain clinics that charge outrageous fees, require tests that aren't required and presribe a certain amount of pills. I think they are legalized drug dealers just flyig under the radar and getting rich). So what are the answers? I'm praying that they can come up with the coding to get those shots for me and I pray they work. But if they don't, what choices do I have? What about the others who don't have the same kind of pain? Legislators have tried to help me and, as I said, everything is well documented. I have nothing to hide but the Medical Board is running off our doctors and leaving us in pain. I frankly feel like they don't care about us anymore. As Scrooge said, maybe they want to get rid of the excess population. But I don't think my problem is life threatening; it will just make me an invalid in horrible pain.

Lol and Ky response is to take all the pain pills away then Ray Larson gets on the radio one Saturday and flat out admits its all backfired its caused H to drop to the point that 70 yr old chronic pain patient that was dismissed from the doc was busted buying it lol and of course he stops short of saying there needs to be restructuring of the law nope lol just talked about how much her I on was in Ky lmao!!!

Lol @ " Methadone requires a medical detox " It would be nice but I've personally came off of extremely high dose twice and all my friends have at one time or another came off without a medical detox. Yes sick for a month but that's the payback for taking the drug. Now as far as pharmacology goes I'm sorry you have been so misinformed because methadone is much stronger than morphine but if u can control ur pain on the morphine then STAY THERE methadone is one strong b****. I was on100 mg twice a day and not at all effective .

I was seeing a neurologist and at my appointment yesterday he completely took me off 15mg oxycodone 3xday and .5 xanax 2xday.. all because I am a gov employee who had an accident july 2013 while working and the USPS office of inspector general sent him the same questions as they interrogated me in person just Nov 2013.. now I've been this mans patient since 2010.. its not like he inscreased any meds since the accident, and that I was seen at a surgeon the day before my appointment with him for a complete tear all the way thru a tendon in my shoulder.. nothing to do with why I was prescribed the low amount of meds from him prior to the accident... He's in Ashland Ky and I'm close to there, this is a federal workers comp claim... GOOD LUCK TO ME RIGHT... is there anyone out there that can give me advise other than jumping off the bridge for relief... I'm not a drug addict, dealer, abuser or trying to make myself feel high.. I've never failed a single drug check... He's saying its because he cant write more than 50% of his patients pain meds.. well he had me on these for a prior back/neck issue before the accident... not the very visit after the inspectors contact him i'm put on lithium....wtf... i'm not crazy,,, although I feel it coming on with all the stress of federal workers comp and all the s*** they have put me thru... I've been nothing but honest and treated criminal... can anyone help me?? advise me.. I'm severely allergic to Ibruprophen, amost killed me in 95... I've worked a farm with my family since 4th grade and I'm 46, I've played hard and wrecked a few four wheelers and this was my second roll over in a car, first in 1989 when I was sober and my alcoholic cop husband rolled a car with me in it and this time I did it on my job delivering mail in my vehicle, trying to avoid hitting a deer or causing another accident, neither time I had a seat belt on, this last wreck I'm not required while I'm in the line of the route delivering.. I'm not wanting to slobber by taking this new meds or be considered crazy.. I just want fixed and back to work...I raised real wolves for 13 years I was their mamma... im on {edited for privacy} if you can help... thanks so much...I'm from ohio also... the very southern tip where it meets wv and ky
