I have been taking 40mg oxycontin 3x a day. My insurance won't cover it any more. My Doc prescribed ms contin 30mg 2 x a day. will it work? ## Oxycontin contains the active ingredient Oxycodone. having back surgery, don't know if docter will check for oxy but I have no choice but to take a 40 M.G. once in a while, don't want to be dirty afraid he might cancel surgery. ## You need to tell your dr because it could cause problems with the anesthesia. ## BL is correct, this isn't something that you can keep hidden. Anytime you are going to be having anesthesia of any type, your doctor needs to know everything you're taking, even over the counter products. Anesthetics are very touchy and can have dangerous interactions with many medications. I have been on 20mg of oxycontin and 10mg of oxycodone for pain and I had rotator cuff surgery 5 weeks ago. I thought I'd cut back on the meds and experienced the withdrawals. Now I'm not sure what to do? I need the pain meds for my physical therapy so going off them isn't possible although I think I'm tolerant and it hardly works for my pain after p.t. I'm seeing my pain management Dr. on Wednesday and I'm not sure what I should do? Ask for help cutting back, increase the dose but not 3 times daily? I just don't know? . ## Hello, Robin! I was prescribed 10/325 Hydrocodone, and 5/325 Oxycodone. Which is stronger for pain after rotator cuff surgery? PF one side 80 other ## Any body know a doctor that will perscribe 80 mg oxycontin. I suffered nerve damage in my leg and also my right arm. I cannot feel anything but pain. It has almost come to the point as to where I can not sleep at night so when I wake up to go to work. I am extremely tired cause I can't sleep due to the pain. I am very worried that if I don't do something about it. I might get fired because I can't even stand for more than a couple minutes before the pain becomes so unbearable. Does it hurt the op 40's if they are cut in half? I don't like to take the whole pill at once. ## Since these are time released tablets, it isn't advisable that you cut them in half, because even with the new formulation, it could still result in the Oxycodone being released faster, so you get too much in your body, at once. There are lower dosages available, have you tried asking your doctor about just prescribing a lower one? ## That's not correct you can cut them ## Yeah you can. I am spending my time between California and Idaho. I suffer from chronic pain and depression. I do better with my depression when in Idaho, but all of my doctors are in California. It is too expensive to travel back to California every 30 days to get my 10 mg of Oxycontin refilled and I can't find any place to find answers to my problem. I would like to have a pain specialist that would work with my California pain specialist, but I can't seem to get a straight answer from my California doctor or my Pharmacy. Local Idaho pharmacy indicates they can't fill out-of-state prescriptions.

I was taking 4 80 mg oxys daily my doc put me on 2 100 mg teva morphines will it help the same and will i go through withdraw thank you ## The equivalent dose would actually be 120mgs of Morphine to equal each 80mg Oxycodone that you were taking, so you've actually been put on a lower dosage. Well I was driving home tonight when I saw the red and blues. I completely forgot I had my crusher and straw in my glove box mind you. Pulled me over for hitting the white line, was just an accident no intoxication or anything like that. Anyway for some reason he asks if he can look around in my car I say sure go ahead, he finds it. Both of the medications you mentioned contain Oxycodone, Percodan couples it with Aspirin and Percocet couples it with Acetaminophen, so if Oxycodone makes you sick, you may also want to stay away from them. Vicodin might be a better choice, it contains Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone. It's an idea you would ask your doctor about, anyway. If anyone knows where I can possibly get this fill at in Michigan please let me know as I am out of meds today and in dire need. ## I wish I could offer more assistance, but unfortunately there's no real way of knowing what certain pharmacies have in stock at any given moment. Not only does this change on a frequent basis, but calling them up and asking doesn't necessarily work either, since they are usually trained to say no if a stranger is calling about narcotics on the phone. If it's just a broad, general test, then it would just show the presence of opiates. Oxycontin is the name brand for the time released formulation, so none of it is available as a regular release formulation. The regular release formulations of Oxycodone would be OxyIR or Roxicodone, both of which are also available as generics. The OxyIR, which is an instant release is only available in 5mg capsules. However, the regular release is available in 5, 7.5, 15 and 30mg tablets. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Good luck!! ## A slow taper is usually best. However, the problem is that these are time released, so you can't cut or break them. How many do take each day?
