Hi there,

My dad is 58yrs old, he's an epilepsy patient for last 30+ years..Right from inital stage till date he has been using sodium valproate 400mg twice a day. Recently a few weeks back he's affected with epilepsy (fits) after nearly two years gap.

As a common practice we have consulted the doctor and has make him to undergo all the test (ECG/EPG) etc tests.

As a result the doctor whom we consulted has advised to stop using sodium valproate 400mg and replace it with Oxetol 300mg and assured this should take care of the issue.

Now all im worried here is, with my dad being 58yrs old, will changing the medicine now have any kind of impact? Will he be safe?

Please advise, im pretty worried about his health...

my wife has seizure prob till dec 2010 but she is taking oxetol 300 from last three years he has no any seizure but she lost her vision ans hearing very bad side effect of this tab so carefully

I am recovering from Encephalitis over the last 6 years and I has with more than 20 medicines and am now down to three, of which Oxetol is one. Oxetol has to be reduced very very slowly. I was on 1200 mg a day 6 months ago and am now down to 750. I reduce 150 mg a month. That again, has not been without repurcussions. I have been having convulsions every once every three days; but with passage of time from the date of reduction, the severity reduces. I think you should approach the original doctor and follow his advice on reduction. What I have come to realise is that there is no complete cure for epilepsy. It just has to be managed carefully. Take particular care and have necessary consultations before making a reduction in dosage. I wish you daughter well.

hi,
i'm 14yrs old and i've been taking oxetol since a couple of months . i was prescribed oxetol 300 mg and stalopam 5 .i have changed my doctor and now i have been prescribed oxetol 150 mg with no other pills but i still feel and look dull . is this dullness bcuz of the pills and if yes how long will it be .is it going to be permanent? plzz reply

My wife 36 years old now she has same prob from 12/2010 last one and half year she has no fits but she is taking oxetol 300 last three years more but she lost her eyes vision totally with the effect of oxetol now I m replacing this tab

my daughter has first seizure 18 months back at age of 15. After consulting doctor, she was advised to take oxetol 450mg 1-0-1. After fist incident, she is free from seizure. I want to know if there are any side effect of this medicine. Also, doctor told us that after 3 years of medication, in absence of any event, she can stop taking this medicine by slowly reducing dosage. Is it OK?

i am a 20 years old. i got my first attack 5 years back. In starting doctor advised me to take oxetol 150 (1-0-1).after 1 year i got an epilepsy attack again. so doctor suggested me to take oxetol 150(1-0-1n half).recently last month i got attack again this time doctor suggested me oxetol 300 (1-0-1) with lobazam 5 tablet. now side effects are affecting me (my teeth colour is going to change in black colour and my checks are sweling). so please tell me should i continue this dosage? please reply me as soon as possible.

My daughter , Aastha, had her first epileptic attack when she was 14 years of age. We got EEG done, which, of course was abnormal. The doctor concerned put her on oxetol 300 first once a day and after about 2 weeks or so twice a day. She continued with the medicine for about a year and didn't get an fit in between. Then we stopped her medicines. She was absolutely fine. But I don't know what got into me and I took her to the same doctor again. He again started her on oxetol 300 twice a day. We changed the doctor after a few months without any reason. Now this doctor started with putting her on Levipil 500 once a day for a few days. Then slowly increased to 1500 mg of levipil in a day. She had her second epileptic attack in April 2014. We found this to be disturbing, because she was absolutely fine without any fits for about one and a half year without taking any medicines. Anyways , we again changed her doctor. Again she has had 5 episides of epileptic attack. Presently she is on 100mg of Lamactil 100mg in the morning and 150mg Lamactil and Levipil 50mg at night. Now the problem is I am not convinced with the replies of the doctors about the gap of about one and a half year, when she was not on any medicines and was fit free for that period. After starting with the medicines again, she has had 5 more fits. We have got two MRIs done. They are normal. Please clear my doubts about that gap when she didn't get any fits. Now I feel guilty as I only took my daughter to the doctor just for a check up for the epilepsy, when the doctor again put her on medicines and since then she has had 5 more episodes of fits. Please help me in understanding as to why so. I would be waiting for your reply. Please let me know.

My 56 year old is under treatment for bipolar disorder. early medicine was oxetol 450,nexeto 10,serentin & lopes 2 mg. Now the medicine is tab. sodium valporate 300 Bd, serentin1/2, lopes 1mg & lithium450. Now her left hand has small shivering like vibrations. pls give a reply

my daughter was taking oxetol 450 BD and fresium 5mg at bed tm and was seizure free for 10 months then unfortunately missed her doses and started getting break through seizures consulted her doctor and changed her medicine .given keppra 1000mg and asked to taper oxetol. but that didnot work.staryed ging seizure almost daily after a week. consulted a nearby neurologist whp changed her medicine. she was goven phenykem 100mg levitrol5mg and oxetol 150 mg thrice a day.later oxetol was given two times. she has lost her appetite became very drowsy and week. now she is given phenykem100mg and oxetol 300mg BD, i e twice a day . she is not getting any attack but has lost her appetite and has become internally week sometimes loses her body balance is not in a position to go to school. she is 17 n is in class 12. please help.

Hi,
I'm suffering from fits since childhood...but it stopped when i was 8yrs old...again it hit on 16yr old and from then onwards it comes for every 3yrs ....last fits was on jan2014..i consulted doctor and he told me to do MRI, EEG scanning...reports were normal....but he gave Oxetol 150 Mg for 10 days then after 10days Oxetol 300 Mg have to take upto 3yrs....im taking medicines regularly but i saw difference in me as my weight n body is increasing....i go for regular walk then also my body is increasing....please help me in how can i control my body n weight...

hello verwon...nice to read ur suggestion. I m also tkng oxetol 600mg since last 3yrs. My neorlst told me dat i hv to tk ds for 5yrs. I jz want to cnfrm will i b get rid of ds diseas aftr cmpltion of 5yrs?

sir, my wife is epilipsy (fit) attack last 11 year & she use oxetol 300 mg 1-1-1- last 7 years but she reduse her dose after 3 years 1-0-1 & after 6 months reduse other dose 0-0-1 attack is again so started 1 1/2 -0- 1 1/2 start 2years latter reduse 1 1/2-0 -1 &6 months after 1 1/2-0-0 Again reduse 1-0-0 &started fit actak so started again, so what can i do

Doctor advised my daughter to take Oxetol 300mg daily 2 tablets for 3 years course. Already 2 years completed till now. and another one year left. do we still need to continue the same prescription or can we take daily 1 tablet . please advise.

hi there, I'm 25 years old.I have epilepsy since my 9 year age. But after taking medicines for 3 years I went normal & never got seizures again. I am not able to concentrate & find myself in a state of confusion several times. Along with this anxiety, sadness, loss of hairs, fast heart beating & weakness are there. Even I'm scared of closed spaces. I fear from everything. I don't have confidence to go out alone. again getting attack after 3 year(2013). then i went to a neurologist from NIMHANS, Bangalore, Pleas per doctor advice i started Oxetol 300 1-0-1..me unmarried girl i know it is problem to my future,. Please help me r suggest me...........

when i was 13 years old i got some attack where my hands legs get senseless. I had undergone treatment with neurologist and i was prescribed tegrital cr 200. doctor said me to take it one and a half two times. he did not say about any time limit to which i should take medicine. Till the age of 15 or 16 i was regular to my dose and I didnt feel any problem. Ater that I started taking it one time. I got bit irregular to my dose. At the age of 21 I felt mild effect of that problem. after ct scan and eeg where reports were normal but i was prescribed oxetol 300 two times in a day. after doctor said me to take oxetol xr 600 OD. but i feel this is high power medicine and please tell till what time i have to take this medicine. I am normal and my reports was normal but whenever by mistake i skip my medicine I feel enough weakness. what should I do?
