Third shot in November and I cannot resolve my severe constipation. Nothing helps. I eat enough fiber, drink enough water, and work out most days. Miralax doesn't help. Any suggestions? ## Heat some prune juice and drink it but make sure you have easy access to a bathroom. Also pitted prunes. Heat them also after adding water to cover and microwaving them till plump. Not all at once. It may work like dynamite!!! Just a cup of the juice at night, go in morning or whenever it wants you to! ## The antibody Denosumab® or Prolia® for skeletal/bone loss issues comes with a long list of side effects with some being very severe. Constipation is among the top three, so it happens quite often. These issue...
I had a tooth extraction. Can I delay my Prolia injection by one month? ## It would be best to discuss it with your doctor, and follow their instructions. The concern is that medications like Prolia have been known to cause osteonecrosis of the jaw, so proper dental care, and maintaining good dental hygiene while taking it are very important. Was your dentist aware that you are on it? The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, back ache, muscle aches, rapid weight gain, and swollen glands in the neck. Are you on any other medications? ## Do not take Prolia if you do not want to loose all of your teeth. I now have none of my natural teeth and in the middle of implants which is extremely expensive. Dentures are not working because of bone disfigurement. I alway...
Since using Fosamax my hair has become thin and my hairdresser refuses to perm my hair. She said it was possible that the Fosamax had broken my hair and if she permed it my hair would probably break off. Can Fosamax be the cause? ## Hello Gill, Yes, hair loss is listed as a possible (but less common) side effect when taking Fosamax (Alendronate) [1]. You might want to bring this up to your doctor to see if they recommend switching medications. [1]
I am taking this vit. @50,000 units per week. Why would my Dr, want me to take this dosage for 5 weeks? ## My physician ordered this high dose because my blood reading was low AND a CT scan revealed Osteoporosis of my spine..... I had no symptoms . I was told the pills would merely stop farther erosion of the spine but would not cure present condition. Was also told it was important to have plenty of Calcium to help absorption of the Vitamin D., which my diet already contained, ## You should ask your doctor if he did a vitamin d level. While that dosage is a 'normal' dose to treat deficiency, unless you have a vitamin d level, that amount of vitamin d may not be nearly enough! You may need FAR more vitamin d in order to correct a vitamin d deficiency, but unless you get a vitami...
I'm a 59 year old female, diagnosed with Behcet's Disease and I use Prednisone for treatment for my weekly flares. The Prednisone is hard on my bones and has caused me to get osteoporosis in my hips. I had my first infusion of Zometa six days ago. I thought I was going to die from the side effects. I had 103 degree fever for five days, deep bone pain everywhere, muscle pain, flu like symptoms, migraine headache, burning eyes, pale skin, restlessness, and no appetite. Today six days later I'm still fatigued, pale, mild bone pain, mild muscle pain and no appetite. I reported these side effects to my doctor. His nurse suggested I maybe try Prolia injection in six months instead. I found this web site and was reading everything about Prolia and the side effects, they sound exact...
I had a Prolia shot two weeks ago and am experiencing shaking and leg tremors. Are there others who have had this reaction? ## Hi Mary, Based on my research, I did find "tremors" to be a side effect of the Prolia shot. The side effect isn't specific to any particular body part, however I would definitely speak with your physician or the medical professional who administered the shot. I hoep this info helps! ## PUBLIC COMMUNICATION - Health Canada Endorsed Important Safety Information on Prolia November 21, 2012 Subject: Prolia® (denosumab) - Risk of Unusual Thigh Bone Fractures AMGEN Canada Inc., in association with Health Canada, would like to inform you of new important safety information related to the risk of unusual thigh bone fractures associated with the us...
My mother took 18 idrofos tablets in a period of 18 days by mistake. Generally, 1 tablet should be taken each month. Please tell me how to minimise the effect of a high dose of this medicine? Kindly advise me accordingly. D. DAS Mechanical Engineer ## Someone please advise how to overcome the side effects of idrofos 150? ## Your best bet is to speak to your doctor. Without knowing your medical history or any other medications you are on, no one here can possibly advise you on what you can safely use. ## what benefit do you get out of this tablet idrofos 150? ## Idrofos 150 tablet is given to which patients. Is it specially prepared for HIV patients. If taken monthly once will there be any sideeffect. ## This tablet is given to patients suffering from osteoporosis. This tablet makes sure...
Aprox 2 weeks after the prolia injection I started to experience nausea and weight loss. Also, loss of appetite and a keen sense of smell developed. It was difficult to eat or smell cooked food. It has been months and these symptoms have decreased dramatically. In contacting their website they would not confirm or deny this as a side effect of the drug. Has anyone else experienced nausea w/this drug? ## Hi Bonnie, From what I could gather, the following side effects are associated with Prolia, that may be similar to what you had experienced: -nausea -tingling in your fingers, toes, or around your mouth -pain, numbness, swelling, or drainage from mouth, teeth, or jaw -vomiting Referenced from: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a610023.html You or your doctor can also report various s...
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2018. My doctor recently presented me with information on medications for this condition and I find the possible side effects frightening. One is taken every six months, what if I have a bad reaction to that. It seems to be those meds or broken bones - I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea! Plus, I seem to be more sensitive to medications as I age. Can anyone discuss their experiences with osteoporosis medications? ## My mother-in-law, who is 73, tried one a few months ago, it made her miserable very quickly, and she stopped after 2 weekly doses. She has now refused to take anymore. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, diarrhea, and joint/muscle aches. The one she tried was Alendronate. Many people ...
I've been on Prolea for 1 month after multiple fractures of vertebrae . I've had a lot of dental problems since having my first shot... Increased cavities, one root canal and another one coming up tomorrow and a possible 3rd... My jaw pain gets almost unbearable, never had any of this before... I wish there would be a way to reverse that shot! there has to be something else to help my bones get stronger... ## Prolea, and most other osteoporosis treatments are known to possibly cause dental issues as side effects, along with joint aches, it could also make it slower for you to heal, after having dental work done, so please make sure your dentist is aware that you have been given Prolia. Yes, there are other options, but as I've already stated, they all carry the risk of causi...
How many years are you able to take the prolia inj's.? I took it twice a year for 3 years. Once I received my 6th inj. I was told I was finished and to refer to my Dr. ## I was told that you should go off Prolia (take a holiday), then start taking it again. I cannot find any information that this is the case. Can Prolia be taken forever? ## They no longer recommend the holiday that's been mentioned, the official site from the manufacturer advises against it. As to how long one can continue Prolia, it is up to 10 years, depending on the patient's condition, medical history, insurance coverage, and etc. The typical side effects may include adminstation site reaction, hypocalcemia, increased risk of broken bones, and dermatitis. Did they give a reason why you were done after 3 ...

I am 60 yrs old and suffer from osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and myofascial pain syndrome. After discussing with my endocrinologist, I received my first injection of Prolia two days ago. Had diarrhea approximately 12 hrs later in the middle of the night. Awoke the next day with headache over entire head and face. That evening (12:30 am) I vomited approximately 10 times in succession. Awoke 5 hrs later with terrible pain and tightness from the top of my head down my neck, shoulders, and upper back. I am frightened to see where the pain will travel next, especially after reading the posts on this forum. Is there a drug out there to counteract the Prolia. I will definitely not be getting another shot in 6 mos. My doctor told me that the main side effect of this drug is worsening of skin c...
I am 81 and had my first Prolia Shot May 7, 2015 and after three weeks I have developed a red rash looking sight UNDER the skin of my legs and back. Only the back itches, which is strange! The main problem is the pimple like scabs that form in my hair, which will crust over and flake off if I scratch them. I only wonder what other problems are forming in the areas that can not be seen? I worry about the next shot, and my choose NOT to take it. ???? ## Yes, that is the Prolia rash they talk about. Some people here are using Prednisone but the problem with Pred is that it makes the Prolia stop building bones so you are suffering from problems with Prolia without getting any benefit from it. If one looks online, one can easily see that Prednisone is contraindicated for anyone on Prolia. Ma...
Had a Prolia injection last week (thought it was a calcium supplement) Two days later woke 4am with heart palpitations and feeling light-headed. Went to Dr and my blood pressure was 139/85-normally it is 90/60. Still over a week later have to lie down mostly to keep my heart from racing. Never again! I was not told of any side effects or I would not have had it. ## I am very sorry about what you've had to deal with, after being given Prolia. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including eczema, nausea, diarrhea, and afib. But, it is also well known to cause odd side effects in many people that try it, just like other medications used to treat osteoporosis. My mother-in-law's doctor talked her into trying one, and within half an hour, she couldn't control her bowe...
Hi, has anyone had the prolia shot and have an auto immune disease? I have scleroderma and bones of a 101 year old woman, I am 57 years old. My Doctor wants me to take these shots for the osteo. I am scared to take it because I already have some of these symptoms with my scleroderma, but they are manageable if I am careful and take care of myself. This medication seems like it will kill me. My doctor keeps telling me it's safe..I don't want to take prolia but don't know what else to use in its place, or live my life as is and risk not taking it. I'm tired of taking this for that ailment but now you have this illness so now have to treat that and it goes on an on. Any feedback appreciated. Thank you for sharing your stories. ## DO NOT TAKE PROLIA. I had my first prolia in...
I have just had the Prolia injection. So far no side affects that I am aware of. Is there anyone who has continued with Prolia (Denosumab) and had positive results after three years? thanks ## There are many people that have experienced good results from Prolia. What you have to remember though, is that most of them have no reason to go hunting up a site like this to find more information on it. The people that usually post on sites like this one are those that have had a problem and are looking for help, or support. Typical side effects of this medication, according to the FDA, may include administration site reactions, muscle/bone pain, cough, swollen joints, and loose teeth. Can anyone that's done well on Prolia chime in with their experience? ## I just completed 2 shots (one ful...

I am a 57 year old female who has -2.5 bone density scores on hips and -3.4 in the spine. I used Forteo for 2 years, but because I was scared to death to try any of the biophosphates and Prolia - I lost the benefit from Forteo. It was minimal improvement at best. I had 3 different doctors in 3 different cities tell me that I should use Prolia. I had the injection on Friday, April 11th. I had put the shot off for 6 months after my pharmacy delivered it to the doctor office due to fear and all the forums. So -- if anyone wants to know information, I will keep you posted. Since yesterday, I have had itching in a variety of places and I had a tough time falling asleep last night. I also have some minor cramping in my calves and thighs. So far this is bearable, but I am trusting God to get m...
I have read all the side effects about Prolia before I agreed to take the shot. My doctor convinced me to do so. I had the injection on 6/8/2012. Four days later I have deleveloped pimples around my nose area. I'm 62 years old and haven't had any pimples in years. I've always had dry skin due to my age. Pimples still there as of today, 8/12/2012. Frequent leg cramps at night from 6/12/2012 for four straight days. I remember Doctor Oz said to take potassium 99mcg daily to prevent leg cramps. I took it from then till now, I'll continue using it. My leg cramps has stopped since the second day that I started taken it. I had stomach pain from 6/16/2012 on left upper to mid section of my stomach for a few days. Now I would have stomach pain as soon as I'm hungry. 6/20/2012...
