I have just started taking Fosamax. I have atrial fib, after reading all this, I don't know if it is safe for me to take it or not. Has anyone here started this drug that has atrial fib? Have you had any problems? I have only had one dose so far. ## There have been some studies and events that have created a suspicion that it may cause a-fib in women, so if you already suffer from it, I imagine it would be possible that it could make it worse, or cause attacks. Learn more Fosamax details here. Have you discussed it with your doctor? That would really be the best thing to do so you can properly weigh your options. ## Fosamax induced Atrial Fib in me. Didnt realize it was the Fosamax until I got off of it after 2 years. No more A-fib or any other irregular heart beats. I will never ge...

I took Fosamax 2 years. Dueling that time I developed atrial fib, was shocked once & placed on Multaq. Continued to experience other heart issues such PAC's, bijimeney & was scheduled for an ablation in Austin, Tx. The doctor that placed me on Fosamax dc'd it after the 2 years & a week or so later, guess what? All the heart irregularities disappeared. Three months out, still no heart irregularities. I'm so thankful that I didn't have the ablation before getting off the Fosamax. ## I'm very glad that you are no longer having any problems and hope that it continues. And yes, there are many reports of Fosamax causing atrial fibrillation in women that take it. Learn more Fosamax details here. Are you still having your heart function checked regularly?
I got my second prolia shot, had severe shortness of breath 2 days later and I still find it hard to breathe, have gone to primary care physician and she thinks its my pulmonary fibrosis, which I have had for a 18 months. Have not had this severe shortness of breath until last week, shortly after having taken prolia shot ## Had my second prolia shot over two weels ago. Shortness of breath still extremely severe. Been to primary care and pulmonologist. Both do not think pulmanary fibrosis is cause. As they don't see that it is getting any worse. Oxygen doesn't seem to help nor as in the past, predisone helped with some shortnes of breath (non compared to this) and it has not helped at all ## Yes, these types of breathing issues are listed as possible side effects of the Prolia, t...
I have been using Fosamax for 3 months, I have noticed severe pain in my big toe and just this week have severe pain in all my toes to the point of having trouble walking. I thought it was the sandals I was wearing but even after stopping that and going back to my good tennis shoes my toes are in terrible pain. Anybody else have this problem? ## Have you consulted your doctor? Fosomax contains the active ingredient Alendronic_acid and it has been known to cause some bone problems, primarily in the thigh, but it is always possible that it could also affect other bones in the body, as well. You should consult your doctor to get to the root of the problem. ## It sounds like an exact problem I had. It turned out to be "gout".

It is being compared to the prescription drug Famotidine, in that they have similar uses. At this time, I haven't been able to locate much more information on this drug, other than what you see above. If anyone else has additional details to add then that would be great!
Osteoporosis,Celiac,HRT,MouthUlcers,Insomnia,Fatigue...........Wine seems safest pain reliever w/o side effects. Any suggestions? Pain 24/7. Frustrated. ## No, wine certainly does have side effects, you just may not notice them all immediately, but they are there, especially if you have more than a serving or 2 a day. It does contain alcohol, so it can cause liver damage, stomach damage, esophageal damage and it can be cardio-toxic. Things are made even worse, if you combine it with pain medications, such as NSAIDS and/or narcotics. There are very good reasons that doctor's tell their patients not to drink, or to do so only in moderation. There are also good reasons most prescription drugs tell you not to drink, while taking them. What medications do you take? ## Thank you for your ...
Readers, I an 69 years old and drew the black bean for a rare neurological disorder called Dystonia (you may want to Google the word to find more information how it affects maybe 3 out of 10,000 people. Anyway, it is specifically targets the neck, eyes, jaw, tongue or other body parts. My case is the Cervical that targets neck muscles to spasm(tighten) on their own. Imagine a permanent "crick" in your neck. Hard to turn pulls in different directions. Some cases disfigure and others are mild. My main reason for the background information is to report a tremendous worsening of the spasms and pulling head in different directions after receiving the Prolia injections. I read where muscles spasms, twitches is one of the many side effects. Because I already have a serious muscle probl...

Has anyone else had brown spots, all sizes, appear after taking the Prolia shot? Most of my other symptoms have eased, but I am covered with these spots. I will never take another shot! ## We've had several other people post about their experiences using it, but no one else has said they went through anything like this. Have you talked to your doctor about the issue? I really can't blame you, I'd feel the same way and refuse to use it again, as well. Have they improved any?
Evista is prescribed for osteoporisis is Pivasta its equivalent? ## Hi Stephen, The general answer to your question is no, as Pivasta is a completely different drug than Evista. However I did locate one article suggesting that Pivasta's uses in hypercholesterolemia may have a beneficial effect on those with osteoporosis: mendeley.com/research/shortterm-effects-pitavastatin-biochemical-markers-bone-turnover-patients-hypercholesterolemia I would not however consider Pivasta as an alternative option for Evista (at least until further studies have been established). Evista (Raloxifene) is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Pivasta (Pitavastatin) is used together with lifestyle changes (diet, weight-loss, exercise) to reduce the amount of ...
If I need to have dental work done (eg: root canal or tooth pulled) do I have to stop taking Atelvia before the work is done? ## Atelvia contains the active ingredient Risedronate and is used to help with bone strengthening, in conditions such as Osteoporosis. As to that, you should check with your dentist. You should always inform them of any medications you are currently taking and they will let you know if there are any concerns regarding the procedures you need to have done. Are there any other comments or questions? ## Yes, you do have to stop taking altevia for an extraction. You have to stop taking it for as long as you were on it. I had to see an oral surgeon, a dentist who called an oral surgeon and two dentists to find the correct answer. I also wrote to five University dental...
Can you take atelvia every other month; in other words, skip a month ## According to the medication prescribing label for Atelvia: "The optimal duration of use has not been determined. Patients should have the need for continued therapy re-evaluated on a periodic basis. The dosage and administration guidelines does not specify whether or not you can take it periodically: "Take Atelvia in the morning immediately following breakfast with at least 4 oz. of plain water. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Atelvia." "Take one 35 mg delayed-release tablet once a week" I would consider contacting your doctor or local pharmacy regarding your question, since this answer may depend upon the severity of your condition. Also, as stated above, patients should have the nee...

My doctor wants me to switch from generic Fosamax to Atelvia. I can find no prices online for it (yet). The drug rep told my Dr. it costs the same as Fosamax. He must mean the original Fosamax as generic is much less. It is NOT covered by MedicareRX program, while Fosamax and others are. ## The generic is much cheaper, however fracturing a bone will be much more expensive in the long run. The generic has a lousy absorption rate and is not consistently coated, resulting and many GI side effects. The new drug eliminates the time and compliance issues that this class of drug traditionally have. If a patient has so much as one drink of coffee within the fasting period this will eliminate 90% of the drug reducing it to an expensive placebo. You can have your Doc ask for a prior authorization...
Approximately 5 hours after taking 1 tab of evista, severe vomiting and diarrhea developed lasting almost 4hrs....this was the second time..Prior to this, I have had no GI problems except getting a bacterial infection 6yrs ago in a Caribbean resort in D.R. Has anyone had any of these side effects from taking evista? Any info on this topic? Thanks! ## Evista contains the active ingredient Raloxifene, it is used to treat or prevent Osteoporosis and yes, what you've described can be common side effects of this medication. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? If they are that severe, this may not be the right medication for you to use and you may need to try something else.
Does taking the drug FORTEO affect one's INR? ## Sorry, this site does not have any doctor or nurses here, what are you referring to as INR? ## It shouldn't as it is a Parathyroid hormone replacement. There is a year's worth of adverse avents posted here that you won't find any where else and might give you pause for taking this as treatment. ## Does Forteo affect my INR?
