Off Propranolol (Top voted first)
UpdatedI was on Propranolol 80mg extended-release tablets for 2 days for my anxiety. I know it's bad to suddenly stop taking beta-blockers, but I had to because my heart rate was too low and I felt horrible. I was told by a doctor that I should be ok to just stop altogether. I really just wanted some reassurance. Will I be ok? I stopped about 2 days ago, and my heart rate seems fine.

I've been on this drug for 12 days and wanting to reduce dose I'm on 40mg x3 is it safe
Katrina,
Your story sounds exactly like mine. I have been on 60mg for about a month and I stopped taking it because I had numbness and tingling on one side of my body. Since I stopped taking it 4 days ago, I feel awful. I'm dizzy and shaky and feel "weird". How long did it take you to feel normal again? What did your doctor say? Thanks so much!
Oh and I was on them for about a month
I'm sorry that you are going through that! I hope you feel better. I'm 26. How long have you taken it? I've heard that the effects are worse the longer you are on it.
What more reassurance can you get, other than the person who wrote the prescription for you, said it was okay to stop. So you would believe strangers on the Internet? Are you f*****g stupid?
OMG story of my life! I was prescribed Propranolol 80mg for anxiety also and just stopped taking them cold turkey 2 days ago because it was lowering my blood pressure and heart rate way too much, making me dizzy/light headed, etc. I feel awful right now, I have a headache, weird heart palpitations/fluttering, weakness, fatigue, sweating, etc. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and I'm going to speak to him to see if it's safe to just stop taking them like this and how long the side effects will last, I'll let you know what he says! How old are you by the way? I'm 20
Only one month, so I'm hoping that these symptoms don't last long and I hope it isn't dangerous that I stopped taking them so suddenly
And thank you, I hope so too! It's horrible
Hey guys, sorry to hear about both your experiences on Propranolol. I've never actually taken it, but I did come across a couple related threads (linked below) that discuss the idea of coming off this medication and what side effects / withdrawal symptoms others patients have reported in the process of doing so:
Discuss/coming-off-propranolol-160031.htm
Discuss/How-should-I-come-off-Propranolol-260503.htm
My view however, is that if you've only been taking Propanolol for 2 days (like Michael), odds are that it probably hasn't built up in your body long enough to pose a serious risk for withdrawals. So if it were me in this position I think I'd feel comfortable taking that doctor's advice who said that "you should be ok to just stop altogether."
And to Katrina, I hope you get better soon! I really wish there was a way to determine how long side effects might last for, but because each person is different all we can do for now is pray that they'll subside more and more each and everyday. Have you tried taking any over-the-counter meds, herbal or dietary supplements to help alleviate certain symptoms?
Take care!
The same problem occurred to me one this crap my first full day causing me to get into a bad car wreck.
Going through same thing. On for a month and can't take this any longer. Head feels like it's going to explode! How long does this last??
