I was switched from Teva to Northstar by the pharmacy and had a breakthrough seizure at week 3. I take 400mg/day for seizures and mood stabilizers. I am back to Teva now and things are back to normal. I contacted my neurological about this and I am concerned that he will report me to the DMV and I will have my license suspended. I put the pharmacist on notice about this and will insist on the Teva brand from now on.

My pharmacy switched from Dr. Reddy to another generic, and I started to itch. It took awhile to figure out the problem. I had no idea of the differences among generics of the same drug. Now, the pharmacy switched to Northstar. The itching is back, and I have mild chills, mild aches in the joints, mild headaches... sort of like when I have a slightly elevated temperature. I'm switching pharmacies, and the new one has ordered Teva. I start that in two days, and I hope to feel good again.

I'm glad it's not just me! I switched pharmacies and in doing so, generic brands. The drug levels in my system have varied widely since going on Northstar and I'm lucky to not have had any breakthrough seizures. I'm working with my doctor now to find something else. I've heard good things about Teva and Taro and can find both near me.

Yes. My pharmacy just switched my generic pills to north star. This is day 4 and I feel terrible. Nausesous, dizzy, and overly druged. I have taken lamictal for 10 years and never had this reaction. Also, the 150 and 200 mg pills look exactly the same so it is dangerously easy to mix them up and give yourself the wrong dose. Not good. Glad to hear others are having the same problem.

I have had the same issue!!! I have been taking the Taro brand for depression for 2 years and have not had any issues (with exception to increasing or decreasing dosage symptoms). My pharmacy switched to North Star and after 3 weeks, I have had terrible anxiety, insomnia, irritability, felt teary for no reason, lack of energy, reduced libido, headaches, joint aching, etc. So I called my pharmacy and asked them to order Taro. They said they would try. I can't wait to get Taro again so that I can feel normal :(

ALMOST DIED FROM NORTHSTAR GENERIC! Yesterday, I picked up my prescription for 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin HCL. I've always taken Cipro before without ANY reactions whatsoever. I found an older bottle and noticed I had taken the generic Cipro from Pack Pharmaceuticals (the one I never had any problems with). Last night, I took just ONE of these pills and thought I was going to die. My head started to hurt within 15 minutes. Then, my heart began racing (resting heart rate was 118 bpm), and then I had serious trouble breathing. When I called the Pharmacy, they didn't pick up the phone. I called the store who said they would transfer me to the Pharmacy. Still no answer. I ended up calling Poison Control, texting my doctor to request this Pharmacy REFILL my prescription with PACK PHARMA and NOT NORTHSTAR! Never again! Pharmacists will lie to you and tell you ALL GENERICS ARE THE SAME. They are definitely not! I almost died. I had to force myself to throw up and drank tons of water and breathed into a paper bag. Never again, NORTHSTAR! You are the WORST. I will make sure to tell EVERYONE I know to NEVER take ANY generic drugs from this company!

Weeks later once I was back on Camber Pharmaceuticals generic sertraline, I am back on track and feeling fine. No breakthrough symptoms. I read that Northstar Rx which is in India, uses ingredients sourced from China. The binding agents, the release formula ingredients, and the quality / safety of the generics from this company have got to be the compromised. I don't care if it has the same active ingredient as the brand name, it is NOT being compounded correctly.
I wish I knew what we could do to effect a change in the way our pharmacies choose what generic companies they use.

Just started taking meds from Northstar (Keppra and Dilantin). I've been taking these meds for more than 40 years. Now I'm sick and very tired, pain in abdominal area. Anyone else experience this?

I think Northstar is fine. I have been on others and there are some I don't think are effective. But so far so good.

I'm also wondering if it has to do w/ the length of time we've taken that certain med w/ that manufacturer? I've been taking clonazepam for several yrs from Teva. Went to another pharm when I was out of town & it was a different manufacturer, but I didn't pay attention. Couple days later, I asked my Doc what could be wrong, bcuz my anxiety was right up there again?! When I returned home, went to my reg pharmacy, back on Teva & I'm ok. I'm a pharmacy tech, but never really paid attention to this; however, since my experience, I've talked to several pharmacists who say the same as someone else posted on here, about certain drugs coming from other countries, so idk if it's true or not?! I don't believe it was 'in my head', bcuz I wasn't even thinking about it.. I care for my mother as well, & she takes several meds for health conditions; I have noticed 'changes' in her personally, when they change manufacturers, & some change like a revolving door...

I have been on the Northstar lomotrigine 25 mg for almost 5 years and it helped me My Pharmacy changed to Aurobindo manufacturer and it produces what is called the shield lomotrigine - I have had a high increase of blood pressure pounding in my chest and tremors. Pharmacy tried to get me the original lomotrigine L127 and they do not make it any more so I called the company to ask if there has been a change in the ingredients as Northstar too is making a shield lomotrigine I am having the same problems. . .That stinks. I am sensitive to chemicals and having a lot of problems with this whole thing trying to get a med that will help me

My prescription for clonazepam has been changed twice in two months. By the end of the first month I was in withdrawal, it was Apotek. Now I’ve been on Northstar for about three weeks and am getting what I call “brain zaps”. I’m not sure what they are but I’m pretty sure they are related to the clonazepam (so called). I use Publix Pharmacy. They used to special order whatever you needed it whatever worked for you. A couple years ago they started using McKesson to supply them and just got what they got. Now they have dropped McKesson and I don’t know who they are using but they still just get what they get. I’m now getting generic plavix from Auribindo. It smells like cat urine. I’ve never had anything good from Auribindo. I guess I’m going to have to find a local owned pharmacy. I’ve tried CVS. They think they are my doctor, I won’t use them. Be aware folks.. it’s getting bad!

I confirmed it. My wife takes .5mg Xanax. I took one and the “zaps” are gone. Thankfully I can refill in 6 days. I’m changing pharmacies if Publix still has this junk generic. My advice, stay away from Northstar, Apotek, and anything from Aurobindo. I had an Aurobindo pill once that I needed to cut in a pill cutter. It would always result in one half pill and the other half in crumbles. I can’t remember what it was but everything I’ve gotten from Aurobindo has been junk.

Agreed. On clono for 20 years. Nort is good imo. Actavis is just sugar. Usually I chew them and your throat either gets numb or not (I dont abuse them in any way. Chewing makes no diff in efficacy, it’s just habit and convenience I guess)

I have noticed a significant decrease in effect with Northstar. Temper is worse. Fuse is shorter. Patience is diminished. Northstar and Dr. Eddy’s are cheap and known to be ineffective and/or have negative side effects. I met with my doctor today and told her the pharmacy had switched me from PAR to Northstar. Her eyes bugged out and she told me that is the worst possible manufacturer to get. That and Dr. Eddy. It’s disconcerting that they’re allowed to put their version on the market but I guess if you have super mild symptoms then it might work.

I got a refill (that fortunately my pharmacist is replacing because I had stated I wanted Sandoz). I am disturbed by the fact that this pill is the same color with the same numbers on it as Sandoz. Does anyone know if the laws have loosened up that permit two companies to use the same color and inscription? Thank you.

Publix Pharmacy has now contracted with Northstar for their generic brand.
Northstar was the lowest bidder, with an agreement that they cannot offer another generic...Is this not a Monopoly???
Shame on you Publix Pharmacy!!!!

I have taken Losartan-Hctz manufactured by Sandoz for years with no adverse reactions. This past refill at Giant foods the pharmacy substituted one produced by Northstar. After a few days I began to note my feet were swollen (not a problem I have ever had before). I then noted an itching all over my body and restless sleeping. Contacting my regular pharmacist it was comfirmed the change and stated the were not allow to request a specific maufacturer. I shopped around (it was a holiday weekendand most were closed) to find one that could request Sandoz. I hope I don't experience that again but what happens if they all decide to eliminate requesting a specific manufacturer.
