New Subutex Laws (Page 14)

Updated

I went to see my doctor this week and he told me that the FDA and the DEA had passed a new law for prescribing Subutex. As of July 1st 2015 Subutex can only be given to pregnant woman or to someone with documentation saying they can't take Suboxone. If you don't have that you will be put on Suboxone.

Which Michael are you talking about. I have never claimed to be a LPN and have no idea what you are taking about.

Sorry guys my 16 year old thought it would be funny to reply in my name. I have no idea why he said I wasn't a LPN. That wasn't funny at all just made me loo bad.

Michael,

Hahaha you were tooled!!! That's what happens when you base your life on a lie. No person's value is based on the initials posted at the end of their name. A good lesson to all, children can expose those who claim to be something they ARE NOT so just be real AND PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE.

If all your doing is switching from SUBUTEX to Suboxone, your not going to have any withdrawals! The withdraws will come from not taking Klonopins maybe..Not sure as I don't take them. Just an assumption on my part.

Dave, you aren't going to be able to sue because you don't have a case. Since you have Medicare, you need to look for a doctor in your area that takes Medicare and is licensed to write your meds for addiction.

Jim,

Must you say anything at all. It's better to keep your mouth shut and be THOUGHT a fool rather than opening your mouth and removing all doubts. As far as I can tell you have nothing positive to say here so why be the antagonist? This site is a very crucial tool to people who have chronic pain. I don't know your story or why you come here just to run people down. I've had 3 back surgeries and suffer from a host of other medical conditions. My Dr of 32+ years retired last year and I moved to GA. The laws from state to state are so different it's hard to make an adjustment without getting some kind of help. This website was so helpful in helping me find a reputable physician and also a highly recommended orthopedic surgeon. So just because some people are drug addicts and bring down the consternation of many on the few, we are not all drug addicts. Just like there are many people who post comments on this wall doesn't make them all an ass just because you are one and you post comments on this wall.

CAPTAIN: Ah yes, I see you've discovered "Jim". Makes me wonder what is so LACKING in Jim's life, that THIS is what he does with his time. It's like the people who go on Youtube to watch videos of bands they don't like, just so they can TELL US how they don't like them. Like, really? Jim is a walking advertisement for birth control, as in "use a condom kids, don't give birth to a 'Jim'." Purposely seeking out a thread about addiction, just so he can talk smack about addicts? I mean, we are addicts, but we can get clean, whereas Jim will ALWAYS be a d.bag. Poor Jim.

It has begun to spread to other states, at least close by. I live in North Mississippi close to Memphis and my doctor switched me from subutex, which I have been on for 2 years, to suboxone. Suboxone has caused me bad migraines in the past, along with just a general awful feeling. There was no warning or preparation. The medication itself costs 4 times the amount of the subutex, which has put going back to dope more affordable than my maintenance plan. Subutex has allowed me to live a normal, functioning life, where I can pay my bills and be happy and productive. Now they are changing things for every one and it is going to cost many addicts their life, just so the pharmaceutical companies can grow richer. They dress it up saying it's because people "abuse" subutex, but cannot with suboxone. That is a horrible misconception, you can abuse suboxone just the same. Naloxone is not meant for a daily dosage. It is to be administered in emergency overdose situations. The long term effects cannot be good. Every doctor believes that subutex is a better care plan. At least the ones whose pockets aren't filled by the drug reps. A doctor should have the final say on what is best for each individual patient. They are slowly forcing states to ruin the life of their patients. This is actually being allowed in the South because we live in such a corrupt, backwards, impressionable area of the country. It's criminal what they are doing to us addicts. I for one fight every single day to keep moving forward in my recovery and not go back to a life of misery chasing a high. Our maintenance medication does not make us feel high, it keeps us from being miserable. And to now see that we can no longer afford our recovery, it is terrifying. And for anyone who doesn't approve, we do not want to be this way, it isn't all party party all the time. Being an addict is a lonely, depressing, crippling monotonous life. Good luck to everyone out there fighting. An addict has more strength and resilience than any other.

STELLA: Actually, it's pretty difficult to abuse either drug. The only reason Naloxone is in Suboxone is to keep people from injecting the Bupe. Otherwise they are basically the same drug. And anyone with a legit opioid addiction isn't going to get the least bit high off of Bupe.

Naloxone is not absorbed by the body very well when taken sublingually; we are talking less than 10% percent availability. BUT... it doesn't take much Naloxone to cause an adverse reaction. It says that I am allergic to Naloxone in my medical file, so fortunately I was only on that horrible drug less than 10 days. But it was certainly a miserable 10 days. I have migraines and chronic nausea already, and the Naloxone made both of those SO much worse, to the point of not even being able to FUNCTION. You may want to go to the emergency room with a "bad reaction", if you know what I'm saying. See if you can get documentation stating that you just can not tolerate Naloxone. Good luck to you, I know EXACTLY what you're going through with that drug.

kkh,

If people are doing this just to "have air time" it's sad. I could be wrong on the time line here, I started reading, learning and asking questions on here about 2 or so years ago. I've always tried to give only my opinions about what I have experienced while taking my prescribed subutex. I at one time was taking up to 20 pain pills daily, this medication saved my life, saved my family and gave me back my dignity. I'm a proud woman in the most humble way, and so wish everyone here or anyone out there would take this site very serious. I've been bashed, called an *****, stupid etc many times..but never have I meant any harm nor leave information that was nothing other then fact, (from my experience). So, in saying all this, what you are saying is True! Don't just come on here just to have conversation, or talk stupid crap. I, like many others really need these people here, and if any are or were like myself...I was a walking mess. I couldn't have got this far without many of you, and omg, I had so many unanswered questions. Thank you all who helped me get this far, and thank you for listening to me even when you may have thought I had no idea what I was saying..lol I'm now 3 years clean, not but one time did I have a mishap..but it happened and not again since. I've never felt better! I am doing just fine with taking as little as 1 to 2 MG of subutex a day, works just fine for me. The scary thing now is, I told my doctor Tuesday I'm ready to ween off subutex, I'm scared to death..lol I have no idea what I will go thru or feel. I just hope I'm making the right choice you all! I do know that in the few months to come, I might need someone here in this chat. OK, that's enough of my babble..I hope you all have a great rest of the week and a good weekend ahead!

Khalil I am proud of how far you have hav come. It's hard to do. I wish you the best of luck coming off of the subutex. I am ready to come off of it to but like you I am scared of what will come after stopping them. I herd it's not fun at all. I I wish the best for you and thank you and all the others that has taken my post seriously. When I started this I never would've thought that two years later people would still be replying to it. Good luck.

MICHAEL: No problem. It's too bad when you click REPLY, it doesn't actually address that person. I would think that would be an easy fix!

Having spend time working at a physical rehab hospital, most of the psych crowd in our place, went into it because THEY WERE BROKEN and were trying to fix themselves. Mostly they projected their baggage & prejudice onto the patients & anyone silly enough to share with them. When your body has been broken in an accident, the pain is NOT always in your head AND not all surgeries make you better!!! We usually got the failed experiments of docs. As they say "doctors are famous for burying their mistakes"...literally.

This comment was completely uncalled for! His medication and reasoning his need for it is non of your concern. He was posting a question for feedback not a life realization , Addicts know more then anything that they are just that an addict. No need to rub in our faces. No need to push someone deeper underwater. I can tell by your ignorance that you sir are not an addict nor ever has been one.

He straight lied im currently taking it. He felt uncomfortable with you taking this version due to no naloxone and it just being straight buprenorphine.
