That is true if you are abusing it, and not taking it as prescribed. i have a sleep disorder, have had chronic insomnia for my entire life. I take 4 mg. of xanex for sleep along with melatonin. The problem occurs when a doctor refuses to prescribe the medication ( thinks ur abusing it)...or doesnt taper you off the benzo... Any responsible doctor knows that it is dangerous to take a patient off xanex too quickly and can be life threatening. Bottom line... If the drug is prescribed and the patient is taking it as prescribed it is an effective medication for anxiety, depression, insomnia or tremor.

OK your problem was severe. You abused a drug that is helpful to many when used correctly. People like you who use benzos to feel high and not to control debilitating anxiety are the reason why people who need it have trouble getting it. You're an addict. That does not apply to everyone on here.

Hi I suffer from panic disorder, and severe social anxiety. I live in Mississippi and I can't find a doctor that isn't scared to write a script for ANY benzo. I even have documentation of those disorders. I've been on several ssri's and snri's but they all have made my anxiety worse and with some I had mild cases of serotonin syndrome. Please help!

I got mine from my family doctor. He also prescribed me some anti depressants. I have major anxiety attacks for a while, when i am going to work, my whole insides feel hot and just not wanting to go, like i been assaulted or some kind of that feeling, but anyways. Be truthful, and tell your doctor that you research your panic attacks for a while(googled it) and then tell him that you strongly felt you needed to contact your doctor and that things are just getting unmanageable. I have a three young kids, a ill father, a declining business, work 6 days every week, and many times night shift...not making enough money, I have lots of stress. be truthful and I do not see why you wont be given xanax, as you want it. tell your doctor you tried all the non medical treatments at home for a while.

Getting xanax, just shows your insurance company you are illed, maybe forever. and if you are prescribed anti depressant....Your insurance rates will go up as times pass. The insurance company will charge you in the long run, its now on file xanax, zoloft...etc. And if your young, you will have a long history of medical with xanax and zoloft. I do not take my xanax everyday, but it does help when i need it.

go tell your family doctor whats up, and they should help you.

They give you any kind of benzos you want in the crazy house to keep u "normal" but they won't send you home with then to be "normal" at home. It's rediclous

I agree with almost everything that you just said. I feel like I am being punished and being put through unnecessary heartache continually because DEA, who doesn't do what needs to be done, by securing the borders, and addressing the cartels. Instead they have targeted the lawful citizens so that they can have arrest numbers to say "see what a good job we do".

There's a great lady who posts, that has put together a petition, to try to get some of the lawmakers on our side. We need help if we are going to continue to receive our medications that we need to function. Lots of us are having trouble even getting medical care. I've got two for you, though one may not be practicing anymore. The first (and one who may have retired) is Jeffrey Josephs. He's a psych doc, but one of the best I've ever had. The other is Jennifer Arnecillia (spelling isn't right - she's w/Austin's Friendly Family Medicine on Burnett Dr.). She's a GP/PCP and is a really cool doc. I wish I was still in Austin cuz then I wouldn't be trying to find a doc in San Antonio. Anyhow, good luck!

Thank you to those of you who have already signed the petition. You may have noticed that in the address line the AZ State government is listed as well as our Federal Government. The nice lady who developed the petition is going to have that website "cut and paste" all the State Governments of the people who have participated. You won't just have your voice heard in AZ, it will be in your state also.

Those of you who haven't signed, please take a minute and click on the petition information in post number 269. Every signature is extremely important.
We are very worried that if we don't get some lawmakers on our side, in the near future we won't be able to get medical care and won't be able to get our medications.

Look at all the trouble we are all having now with getting our medication or a doctor.

I have super bad anxiety and in some occasions I get depressed here and there. I hoping there's a doctor near me (Miami,Florida) that could prescribe me xanax or anything that would help me with that my problem.

Some of us take xanax because it seems a little better than abusing opiates or being strung out on morphine. It takes the edge off of life- so making it through the day is OK and sleep comes at night. Haven't wanted to kill myself or hurt others on any benzo like xanax. Without, well, that's another story. Some of us just need something to make life a little f***ng livable and there's nothing wrong with that! Detox slowly and carefully if one ever makes the decision to do so. I love drugs for making life fun at times, for teaching me difficult lessons at others and for making life OK at the very least. F*** Jesus, Allah and all the lying profiteering prophets that base their profits on these ancient deceits- praise be to mind and mood altering chemicals. I'd rather sell my soul and pay my money for something that works: I'm in till the day I die. Now or later, who cares, it comes for us all. Enjoy the downward spiral!

This is your personal experience. Mine in the opposite. I'm bipolar with severe anxiety. Untreated, my anxiety attacks can roll anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours. It's one of the worst things I've experienced and for a while they were happening 2-3 times a week. At the time I was living in Lawrence, KS, had an incredibly compassionate doctor who prescribed Lamotrigine for the bipolar (the first thing that ever worked to control the mood swings...ever.) and Xanax for the anxiety. He educated me on both, explained the dangers of addiction and how to avoid dependency (not taking it at regular intervals every day, since this builds up the tolerance in our bodies, requiring more and more -- thus dependence). It changed my life for the better. When I felt that "aura" of anxiety coming on, I would take a single .5 mg tablet. On very few occasions I would have a serious anxiety attack and wasn't near my meds to counteract it and took 1 mg (2 tablets) at once. I think that happened maybe three times the whole time I was on it. Within 10 minutes I was normal again. I only took it when it was needed and was on it for 5 years without any addiction or dependency -- and zero withdrawals when I stopped taking it. It's how you treat the drug, how you respect it, that makes the difference. Just because the bottle says every 4 hours, doesn't mean you pop one every four hours. That's just how long you wait in between IF the anxiety has not completely subsided or the situation is more stressful that day. You always take this as needed ONLY.
