I'v not seen anyone complaining about gastric reflux under the sternum. I am 40, and I've never had any gastric problems before. As soon as I started taking the Meloxicam, I noticed chest pains under my sternum. For 5 days I was taking meds to relieve the gas that was so unusual. I then thought about what was I doing different since the gas started, and It had to of been the Meloxicam. I referred back to the side effects, and the chest pains, shortness of breath, and rapid weight gain is what I had in common. I've gained 6lbs in 5 days. I've not weight over 136lbs in 17 years, and that was due to pregnancy now I'm 142lbs. I have discontinued the medicine, and will never take it again. I've also researched, and saw where there has been some heart attack scares with this medicine. I've been taking synthroid, and GNC womens iron complete daily... prior to the Meloxicam. I'm not sure if that's a bad mix, but since I've discontinued the Meloxicam I've not had any gas, and have not gained a pound.

The FDA classifies Meloxicam as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and this class of medications is very well known to cause stomach irritation and create the risk of ulcers, GERD, gastritis and heartburn.

Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased risk of bleeding.

If you need to take one again, in the future, you may want to speak to your doctor about taking it with an antacid to help prevent these symptoms.
