My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 6)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.
My pain med pa-c told me that they can not give pain med to patients receiving anxiety meds... not sure if this is law or not but may be what is happening ---- be thee well
Re: SayWhat (# 546)
Personally I don't care whether you believe me or not. Blah blah blah....Turn me over I'm done with haters.
Re: Kat (# 548)
Kat, unless you have extras like you either need to start cutting down or find another practitioner
Re: CoolGrandma (# 15)
Would you please tell me what natural herbal preparation you use instead of xanax? I have taken 4 mg daily for 26 years and my psychiatrist is getting old and I'm afraid he might retire soon and docs don't prescribe xanax much anymore. Thank you
Re: no name (# 2)
This almost rises to the level of malpractice in my book. I had to go to the hospital and they admitted me for 3 days when I happen to me one time and then sent me out with my meds and then another time I ripped my apartment apart for 3 days and was in a complete blackout cuz I was withdrawing so bad before somebody took me to the hospital to get me squared away so don't toy with it do what you need to do to get them

Who cares about your long list of accolades. I don't. I said what was on my mind and that's it for me. Patrice got it right. I too am going to post my experience and not dispense advice. Please bypass my post. You are right about, he who protests the loudest, or whatever nonsense you said. You are trolling this board passing out unwanted deliverance. Posting all your alleged credentials. For all I know you are unemployed sitting home trolling to get through the day. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, but share, don't dispense diagnosis and other mess you are not qualified to do. Just because you post your lengthy accolades doesn't make it true. You are not qualified to diagnose. It doesn't matter if you have 50 years experience as a nurse. BTW, I don't believe none of those accolades you claim you have. Like you said he who protests the loudest have the most problems. You must have a plethora of problems because you are always protesting and defending saying you have experience and degrees that might not exist except in your cloudy mind. It's OK though we all need let off steam every now and then.
I think we should all take a deep breath and just listen to everyone.. This is supposed to be a safe place. I am not here to judge. The posters here are asking for help.. If they are addicted it’s not our business. I am just going to post my experience that’s it.. I’m only going to post something if I’ve been through it
Re: SayWhat (# 542) & (# 543)
I am a professional licensed RN with 31 years of experience working in the ER, Neuro-surgical floor, and Telemetry unit of the hospital. I've also worked for a pediatrician. I don't give a darn whether you believe it or not. Your opinion is inconsequential. I don't tell anyone to read my posts. Don't like it don't read it. Sometimes the people that protest the loudest know the least and have the biggest problems.
Re: Anne (# 540)
Come on, half the people on this board are not receptive to your kind of rhetorics. If someone is not receptive to the message being delivered then that's what is counter-productive.
Re: YesU (# 534)
How do you know that this person is a legit nurse. A person can be whatever they want incognito.
Re: EDDY (# 506)
IT'S 6 WEEKS LONG......NOT 6 MONTHS. BUT IT'S A 'HELLOUS' 6 WEEKS. I PROMISE.
Re: SayWhat (# 528)
I'm not giving out any advice that's beyond my qualifications. I answer questions when I can. I don't recommend medications nor do I give substitutions for medications. Personally I don't think anyone but a doctor or PCA is qualified for that. I think even lay people should be careful with what they recommend. We're talking about strong medicines that may be safe for one person and could kill another person. I've seen people at their best and at their worse. I've seen people in horrendous pain and I've seen people fake pain. So please don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. Am I a pain expert, no. Do I try my best to help people, I do. I like to think I'm a compassionate person. If not I wouldn't have chose this profession. I'm sorry if we don't agree, but before you attack me you should know me. I know that everybody that claims to be a real pain patient isn't. I know that there are people that abuse the system. That's why it's so hard for real suffers to get the help the need. There are also people that start out in real pain and long after their pain is gone continue to take and abuse these medications. They are very powerful and should only be taken as a last result. I'm not going to argue with you anymore. It's just gotten counter productive.
Re: YesU (# 534)
Yes I appreciate your support. I have a Masters in nursing so feel like I have a little insight. I don't feel that everyone on here is an addict. Some people truly are in need of help. It may be that I'm putting what I want to convey in a way that's being misunderstood. The brain is a funny thing. It makes us who we are, keeps our body running in an efficient manner, and let's us know when there's something wrong. It also has a long memory.
Re: Patrice (# 533)
There is a difference, I agree, but if you're dependent on a medication to help with the pain it makes your body physically addicted to it. If that weren't the case you wouldn't go through withdrawal. Look I'm not calling legit pain patients addicts, I'm not. There are people on this board that I feel could be just by the way they talk. I am not against the use of opioids or sedatives to patients that really need them. I wish it were easier for real patients to get their medications without the misuse by others. Pain is subjective. People can be in real pain with tests be completely normal and people with terrible tests not being in mild pain if at all. This is the doctors dilemma. I'm sorry if I offended anybody in true need. It wasn't my intention.
Re: lisa1947 (# 1)
Yes!!!! You can NOT just quit cold turkey- I did and I had the WORST 2 weeks ever w/extreme anxiety like I’ve never experienced. NO ONE understood what I was going through and couldn’t care less! Each withdrawal brim benzos is different. Maybe you’ll get lucky. Of course you can always just order online! You can get ANYTHING u want on the web!
Re: Lisa (# 535)
You are so right. This happens on every drug forum I've been on. There will always be the know-it-alls who haven't experienced a protracted withdrawal attempting to lecture those of us who have/are.
We need to simply support each other.
Wow everybody can we just take it down a notch please. We're all supposed to be in the same boat here and supposed to be helping and supporting one another... We don't need to be getting nasty and coming for eachother...
Wow. You people are putting down a nurse that has knowledge that has went to college and knows what she is talking about. You people have no clue. Move it on down the road.
Re: Anne (# 531)
You evidently have no clue as to what your talking about. There is a huge difference between dependence and addiction. If I have to explain it to you then your just ignorant. Look it up
Re: Anne (# 531)
I'm not trying hard to do anything. I'm simply stating facts. Protracted withdrawal has nothing to do with cravings. If you can't logically dispute something why even bother replying? Based on the feedback on this thread it seems the consensus would be that you're the one who should move along. Maybe go to medical school if you want to learn about medicine. Good luck with that.
