My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 14)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

You CAN NOT go cold turkey off any benzo especially after ten years and if you just ate your last dose that itself sends you into high anxiety knowing your out and knowing its only going to get worse...withdrawal from benzos is like no other and you need to go to the ER and they will give you benzos if your in withdrawal because benzo withdrawal CAN be life threatening and nothing stops it other than taking benzos...swim has been on xanax for about 5yrs and started at .5mg of xanax and throughout the years ended up at 4-5mgs a day now slowly weaning off the past 6months swim is back to only .5mgs a day now but just the other day swim was out of xanax went about 12hrs before the anxiety WD turned to hallucinations, rapid heart beat, and high bp along with some other uncomfortable symptoms swim was in ER 2 times with in last 3weeks for benzo WD and both times ER Dr. handed swim benzos and wrote RX for benzos because its so high risk for severe health problems

Withdrawal symptoms that are life threatening take a very high dose, and a longer period of withdrawal to manifest. people with panic and anxiety HAVE brain tools to fight their anxiety, I have been on this med at the same dose for a very long time as well...if i see I am running short before my appointment, I split my pills, and take half doses to stretch the number of days the remainder will last, but there have been times I have had to go several days without medication. Though difficult, I keep myself relaxed, and try to keep my attention focused away from the way my body feels, having contact with other people is very helpful, particularly if you can share that you are currently in a withdrawal. it's unfortunate people really lose confidence in their ability to cope, but if they believe they can find coping strategies until they see their doctor, they empower themselves rather than set themselves up for more anxiety.

My heart goes out to you! Because, my fiancé died suddenly from an ulcer that (unknowingly) became infected. The strange thing is in the period of time he was ill (32 hrs) he had no fever or outward signs of serious illness which is why he thought he had a stomach bug. Being stubborn he refused to go rush off to the ER or walk-in clinic until after my continued pleading he said he'd go in the morning if he was still feeling bad. I had even discussed his symptoms with our pharmacist went I ran out to get him some pedialite, etc. 35 minutes later I walked in and he was completely non responsive called 911 & began CPR but, he was gone. It's a shock to get through and I also due to financial reasons went off my meds without proper therapy or advice, it was not easy. But, if I'd known how dangerous it could be I'd have thought twice. Anxiety is not a minor issue for many and only those with first hand experience should truly offer the original commenter advice. I hope you're doing well all these year's later as we'll as the, other poster's who've found themselves in a situation like this. This world needs more people in get in touch with their humanity and treat other's more humane....

@Erin your talking about yourself personally and if withdrawled from both opiates and benzos and benzo is way worse hands down opiate WD is like having the flu n yes is horrible you wish you were dead or feel like your going to die but benzo WD you actually can die if you go to a ER and tell them your WD from opiates they don't give you opiates if you go for benzo WD they give u benzos why do you think that is...do some research benzo WD is no joke some people don't experience WD as bad of course but you must go to a ER if you can't get any and your wd

Going off zanez cold turkey is extremely dangerous.
Shame on the Dr who wouldn't give you a taper script. Convulsions,depression just to name a few side affects. I've found that new drug laws have caused many doctors to become sciddish in prescribing benzo's and narcotics in general.

Get to a Dr or emergency room if you have issues that cause you to feel it's unsafe .

Now Kratom is mad at me and I have no idea what I said, although I think it has to do with a legal suit against Focus Factor for millions of dollars. In the meantime many doctors are plain not aware of the potential deadly withdrawal symptoms Xanax can cause. If you feel sick, in most cases will only get worse and it is suggested to seek emergency assistance!

Thank you for your post @David. That's all I stated is that it works. Being a huge advocate and member of the AKA has really opened my eyes. I am very glad that Kratom worked for you. If you join some of the groups for Kratom, you too will see that there are literally THOUSANDS of people that share the same views. @SayWhat has no clue what they are talking about because they are uneducated on the topic of Kratom. They need to do some research and if they actually tried it, they would promote it too. I never tried to "sell a lie". I speak the truth. Uneducated people bother me the most. The legislation trying to ban Kratom had the same narrow mindset as @SayWhat. Sad that we are losing the state by state battles due the the demonization of Kratom by the Media and people that are just too set in their prescription ways to open their minds to something new and natural.

I am not mad Eddy. I just wanted you to know that I was not claiming I had a reaction to Vitamin C. Focus Factor has some very potent synthetic chemicals in it and they are not listed. It took my Neurologist a few days to figure out what caused my episode. I am very healthy and it was shocking to myself as well as my family. @SayWhat can think whatever they like, because everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I just don't like being called a liar. I have spent the last two years helping many people get OFF their prescription drugs using Kratom. Since 2011 I have spent a lot of time and a TON of money weeding out the bad vendors and scammers in the Kratom community. I have been on the NY news and just wrapped up a Columbia University documentary about the day and the life of a Kratom user. It will be picked up and broadcasted soon. I am not promoting anything. I am simply spreading awareness. I have no reason to lie to you, or anyone else about my, or my families credentials. If people want to be stuck on prescription drugs for the rest of their lives, that is their choice. If they work, thats great. The thing is, over the past few years, I have discussed Kratom with literally THOUSANDS of people because of my advocacy work. Almost 100% of the people that are currently addicted to ANY prescription drugs do not want to be. Kratom is a way out without more of Big Pharmas posions of expensive rehabs that have a 96% failure rate, and cost an average of $30k PER 30 DAY STAY. We are completely losing the war on drugs in this country. I have dedicated a HUGE part of my life to lobbying for Kratom. Please don't confuse my passion for promotion like @SayWhat did. I wish you well @Eddy. No hard feelings at all. The good news is that NY closed their legislative session on June 17th and Kratom was NOT made illegal here like Alabama and Arkansas. They unethically passed two bills in those states SCHEDULING Kratom making research impossible, and possession a felony. Both of the bills sponsors were linked to pharmaceutical profiting. Hubbard, the former SOH of Alabama, was just sentenced to prison himself. This is the man that got Kratom banned in that state back in May. He, Mack Butler, and Barry Matson are the ones that got Kratom scheduled. Google this whole mess and tell me what you think. @SayWhat needs to research BEFORE they speak out loud. It is easy to point fingers from behind a keyboard, but every word I have said can be proven with a simple Google search. I am just trying to help as many people as I can by spreading awareness, not PROMOTING Kratom. Big difference. I sleep very well at night knowing all of the lives I have impacted and saved by simply telling people about Kratom :)

Get ready for a month and a half of pure hell. Seizures, insomnia the works. Coming down of Xanax is the WORST feeling in the world. P.s. your anxiety is gonna go through the roof. On top of probably not sleeping..at all. Good luck, I feel for ya

4 mg a day should not provoke the worst of withdrawal as seizures - IF the person took no more than prescribed. Discomfort? Yes, and increased anxiety, but ONLY if the person fixates on no having medication. When attention is concentrated on outside things, mild withdrawal is easily managed.
I have gone days without medication while waiting to see my physician, at the same maximum dose. No seizures, and anxiety must be seen as anxiety - it didn't kill you last time, and won't kill you this time.

I was taking 3xanaxx a day and was so sick and when I told another Dr.that said I could have died my body was having seizures so go to e.r as soon as you can cause you could lose your life.

@Susan, the correct way to do your title is this: Susan BSN, RN. With that said, never tell a person how their body will react on any medications. Never tell some one how their body will react through withdrawal. You stated that you are an RN. Therefore, I am surprise you would go that route. Everyone body is completely different. Everyone' s body reacts differently. As a healthcare provider you need to be careful and not reckless with your words. Your story of what you went through or didn't go through is your story. Everyone has a different story and different scenarios of what they did or, didn't go through.

Sorry Susan RN but when a person goes through withdrawal from xanaxx they feel so bad and the anxiety is still there but worse than when I was taking it.Don't understand why drs make patients go through withdrawal.

You know I had been taking Damascus for panic attacks since my thyroid had gone away, put on synthroid. Now I have learned that the panic attacks is a part of what I am feeling. I had to change doctors to be closer to PvP and he will not prescribe me them. I am going out of my head from anxiety. Tell me how to ask for help in getting back on them? I have been through so many surgeries it isn't funny; discotomy then fusion with plates and screws plus cabaret bones, lung cancer and now the breast surgery. I can't get him to write anything for me but see all these young ppl that are healthy looking laughing and making deals on the phone about selling their medicine and you notice I said looks healthy, this is what Obama healthcare has created. Young ppl not working as I did and being hurt in car wrecks lost the feeling in legs that lead to back surgeries. Please help me understand why and how can I get the medicine to take instead of hurting all the time and my Damascus to help me sleep when these PPL make a living out of going to doctors instead of working. Makes me think why did I work so hard and going on 60 yrs this coming year when these PPL are not looking for work and brag that they don't have to work it's so disheartening and depressing to think I am going to have to live with all that my body has to go through and I dont know how to ask my doctor. These PPL drive better cars than I do which I can't afford a car and insurance for it if I had one but they drive the best and wear the best of clothes. Please help me, what's wrong with this picture...Am 59 and in so much pain. Oh by the way I have ultercious colitis also, my stomach hurts so bad and at least opiates help cause constipation which I need. I have lost so much weight and can't afford clothes to wear. Mine are falling off me and doctors don't seem to care about us elderly patients anymore. There will always be some ppl needing docs, I know this cause I see it at docs offices. Thank You. Please help me to find an answer and no not pain centers, they only want to jab needles in your back and create more damage.

I'm very glad to hear about the work you've been doing on behalf of all of us that suffer from Chronic pain to Anxiety. Kratom is a very incredible alternative to many prescription drugs especially for so many people that are unable to afford the specialist and expensive medications. The Pain Patients Alliance sent me the devastating news this week that the DEA is banning 2 of the active ingredients in Kratom so essentially Kratom will now be banned. Why? Because there have been somewhere around 250+ calls to poison control!? Versus the 1000's of actual people Dying from prescribed pain medications? Insane to think of all the death's attributed to various "Legal" medications and because, there's something that can help multiple symptoms from a multitude of illnesses with almost zero side effects and is virtually impossible to overdose on because, you'll vomit if you take to much. BUT, we all knew this was bound to happen as more people turn to herbal remedies rather than take chances with pharmaceuticals and all the problems that come from them. With so many people being removed from their regular medications without a choice Kratom has been a safer alternative to laying around depressed, anxious and in pain. It seems as if the power's that be are determined to punish people that are already suffering and heap guilt and shame upon them as well. How can our leaders continue to allow the torturing of it's citizens to continue? Veterans are among those that head the list on suffering from severe depression, PTSD, Anxiety and Pain yet, their own government does nothing to see that they are able to receive the help they need either. What has happened to this country's consciousness?!

Sorry but if you don't keep your appts as you advised in a comment , you surely won't get the prescription. I wished I had seen these comments years ago because the thing to do if you are abruptly taken off Xanax is to go into treatment not just shake it off . You can go into seizures etc.
