My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 13) (Top voted first)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

Benzos and alcohol r the two main things ppl can die from due to withdrawls. I stopped taking my kpins once and had a seizure five days later. This is nothing to fool around with and if your doctor is willing to put your life in danger, f*** him, find some off the street to get u through so you don't die and sue that doc.

I live in a very small town in California and I can't seem to find a doctor to write me my klonopin I have been getting it from friends but I Don't feel right about that. There are no doctors that are going to write me any medications in this County. Please help as I've only got three pills left. I've been on this medication for over 30 years. I know what'll happen if I try to go cold turkey. Like I said I could find no doctor that would help me to withdrawal taper nothing Please help! Thanks Gia

I took my last dose this morning. My Dr. moved and I am scared. 2 weeks ago I had a Grand Mal seizure because I was out. Woke up in an ambulance. I did get a shot of ativan and sent home. I know you will say I am wrong but I went and bought some from someone. I am scared and i don't know what to do. no insurance but my body is already shaky head foggy I know no sleep and No xanax. i am scared of dying.

no we are not in california where prescribing drugs ot that nature to know known addicts is a crime 10 yrs u will have a visciouus seizure I c it time and time again addict or not after 10yrs u r physically addicted the doctor needs ro taper u call dept public health they will make him taper trust me go to the medical director 10 yrs he is the proffesional

California and Arizona Doctors prescribe lots of medicine. Almost everyone in my town is a Meth addict, Meth manufacturer and pill abuser, makes me sick. With that said I almost died in the E.R. from a withdrawal and met a Doctor who has taken care of me ever since! Plus they kept me a Week as all my vital signs were gone, the E.R. Doctor was blown away!

My best advice, a place like Arrowhead, a detox place that is fully aware of xanax and the withdrawls. Not all substsnce abuse facilities are aware of Xanax-Benzo medications unfortunately. I was prescribed 6 mg of xanax a day (2mg bars three X a day) and four 10 mg percocets a day. It was the hardest thing my body went through, but I haven't taken neither for 3 weeks now. O csn go on and on, it's the only way I could break my adfiction to xanax.

Bill, you are in for a big supprise of your life. i was on xanax for 12 plus years. my doctor stopped writing them out. now i am cold turkey for 5 months and i am still sick. good luck if i can help you please feel free to write me.

Xanax is killer on the way out, it can kill you during withdrawal. Do not discontinue use cold turkey and these treatment places that treat without tapering can be deadly?

I am soooooooo sick of Doctors. We, the patients, or as they like to call us "addicts" have no %$#@ing clue what we go through. I refused medication for 5 years. I started having panic attacks at the age of 23 when I got pregnant the first time. Had my first panic attack and was not due to any kind of medication or withdrawl as I was not any medication, not even over the counter. My daughters are now 7 & 8 and I finally gave into medication that was pushed on me after reading at least 100 books on how to survive panic disorder and different therapies, and natural remedies. When none of this worked and I was up to 8 or 9 panic attacks a day, I wanted to kill myself and finally found xanax and functioned normally, I was myself again. They threatened to take my 10 pills of 1 mg xanax away from me even though I had been on this dosage for at least 2 years and only using as needed, and never abusing. They made me get on an antidepressant even though I refused for 2 years. I tried 7 or 8 trial and error just to be cooperative but had suicidal thoughts on every one. I am on an antidepressant now and it increases my anxiety so of course now I need 2-3 mg of clonazepam at this point in my life. I have lost over 20 jobs due to my disorder. I have been discharged by at LEAST 20 doctors at this point. I will establish one and try to just get a prescription so I can function and they will not take me on as a patient. Because I have no Doctor I have no medication and am now finding them on the street so I do not die. I truly wish panic disorder on any doctor who has turned me away when I have had panic attacks in their offices. I now have no job, got divorced, only see my kids half the time, and well my life has been spirally downward ever since. I am the one with the disorder. I have put hundreds of hours into what medications will help and will be prescribed but as soon as I am back to functioning as a normal adult and Mother again these sons of $&#&@es take me off and discharge me. I have contemplated suicide more times than I can count at this point and am @#$%ed. Shame on you unempathetic Doctors, what happened to humanity?? You are in the wrong field of work. Start listening to your patients. You know, your JOB!!!!! And don't ask me why you get paid like you do, I have had to inform so many of the seriousness of withdrawals but all you can say is I am an addict. Well no $#&@!!!!! My body is Dependent on a medication YOU gave me. I pray to God all of you Doctors who have done this develop panic disorder. And have it to the point of living in pure hell, and when you find a cure it gets ripped away from you. Please quit your jobs and let the real Doctors work. I do not know how you sleep at night. I will guarantee you, you have ruined many many many people's lives, families, jobs, relationships and are probably the root of many addicts problems and are probably responsible for countless deaths and suicides. So the next time you want to #$%@ with our lives I really hope you can live with the irreversible damage you have single handedly done. Thank you for ripping my family apart and ruining my life and pretty soon here probably my death at 33 years old. My 7 and 8 year old thank you soooooo much!!!!!!!

What about the HIPA law? You should take this doc to court cause he violated the HIPA laws by talking to your mom unless you signed a release allowing him to discuss your medical records without your permission! Even though you are on her insurance policy I don't think he is allowed to release or discuss your care unless you signed a medical release! I would look into that further because I work for an attorney and what his offiice did is COMPLETELY ILLEGAL!!!!!

Yep sit down keep your arms and legs inside the moving vehicle and hang on. Me personally abused the heck out of 2mg xanies for years. In one day I just stopped. Not by choice, darn wife and kid bla bla bla, after seven days it gets BAD. Like ER bad. I would be walking and my brain would short circuit, for a split second like a light switch off and on, my whole body would shut down for that second. My legs didn't work my arms go limp and I would just drop into doors chairs showers didn't matter it's like your body is made outa jello. It's like the synapses wouldn't fire in my brain. That lasted three days I learned they were grand mal seizures. Then I was an angrey SOB for weeks. Then after 14days it gets better. BUT how the heck do you not have a friend on xanax? I can throw a rock out my door and hit 20 people that are on them. Just look for the dude nodding out. It will be me. Enjoy the ride.

I agree. Everyone is different. But what do u do in the case of kids? I missed an appt with my kids and now I get kicked out of there practice and no Dr to see us till april ?

Them taking you off your xanex cold turkey is a liability in its self. I would tell them that you want them to sign a release to talk to your lawyer. PUT A LITTLE SCARE IN THEM. GOING OFF ANY BENZODIAZEPINE IS DANGEROUS IN ITS SELF. YOU CAN HAVE SEIZURES AND EVEN DEATH.

To VERWON: Maybe you think you're being helpful, but you most certainly AREN'T, and worse yet, you are sadly misinformed yet presenting BS as "facts", and with a huge chip on your shoulder too. No need for this judgmental crap here, go somewhere else to spread your negativity and bad info. There is serious WITHDRAWAL associated with just stopping Zanax. Apparently you would expect her to meekly accept the fact that she will be very sick, and possibly dangerously sick (ever heard of a SEIZURE) without getting upset with the Dr's office? If someone told you, hey tomorrow, you will be throwing up and having seizures, would you just say "well, OK thanks", or would you push and ask questions? Addictive behavior? No. I'd call it legitimate fear and concern. I'll quote you again: "As to the withdrawals, the fact that you took your last pill in the morning and were already feeling them is not realistic. It takes a longer time period than that for it to process out of your body".... one of the benefits of Zanax for anxiety is that it kicks in quite quickly, but also leaves the body quickly. I'm sure that knowing she was out of meds CAUSED the person anxiety, but it's not unusual to experience withdrawal symptoms in less than a day when taking the doses that she does. And one more quote from you: "However, if you were not abusing it and just taking it as prescribed, the withdrawals may be miserable, but not truly dangerous to you physically." Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous. The body doesn't know the difference between "taking as prescribed" or "abuse".... if you feed your body five pills a day but you've only been prescribed three, your body doesn't know that you are taking more. It can't read the paper prescription. All your body knows is that the drug you take every day is no longer in your system at the dosage you were taking it. The drug still affects your brain, organs, mental functioning, digestive system... whether you take it as prescribed or take 5 times what's prescribed. The human body is not immune from withdrawal symptoms whether you take the prescribed amount or not. You will have withdrawal symptoms, period, if a drug is physically addicting and you take it for a certain length of time. You don't get a "pass" on being sick because you are taking a drug the way it's prescribed. I would suggest that you stop being so damn judgmental, and even more important, get your facts right before you post on a forum and try to act like a know it all. It's shameful, really.

yeah benzo withdrawal is hell. I've been on all the different benzos over the last 15 years, most recently Klonopin. I'm in much the same situation - my psychiatrist is $90 a visit I just lost my job and can no longer afford to see him. So, the last few weeks I've been receiving xanax from friends (only like 5 1-mg footballs here and there because they are NOT dealers and need their meds too!) I have been to 1 local ER who gave me a 2 day supply of Klonopin then to an Urgent Care place that gave me a 3 day supply, last night i ran out again and baught 2 xanax bars from a friend so today I'm going to try a different ER in hopes of getting at least a 2 week supply so I can taper myself off slowly. I'm on the waiting list for a local detox center which is known for getting people off benzos safely and for good but its going to be at least another 2 weeks to a month before I optimoptimistically can expect to get in. It is such a revolving door nightmare dealing withBenzos because you are basically looked at as a drug addict when you go to an ER to ask for help and they consider it drug seeking behavior which I guess it is, but hell its the doctors faults for getting us started in the first place and then cutting us off (in this case I'm talking more about your situation than mine though I have gone thru that exact same scenario in the past). Good luck to you, I hope you found a solution. As for me, until I get into detox I will continue to go to ERs in my area (Chicagoland) and ask help from friends. All I can do!

That Verwon doesn't know what he's talking about. Sounds like he's just parroting something he's read that is not true, or he just thinks he knows although he's never experienced it.
You will start withdrawal soon, same day with xanax. It will get very bad, unbearable. You need to get some and taper off slowly, over months. I'M did cold turkey once and couldn't leave my apt for 10days, no appetite, anxiety that was terror. Non-functional.

i am on a very high dose of gabapentin, ive been on it for 3 years.I am on vacation in North Carolina i live in Kentucky. i went to my doctor the day of my departure and informed him id be leaving for three weeks. well he gave me all my medicine i get to NC. start unpacking...no meds.. my dad didnt grab them off the kitchen table like i asked while i was packing the car. Ive never ever been without these meds and today i started feeling very disoriented and as if my face was going to burst into flames i called my doc and asked if he can call in a vacation supply and he says NO flat out no. now i am lost i just dont know what i can do i feel like 3 weeks without will kill me. these doctors are cruel hearted they only care about the almighty dollar they get us hooked n set back on their millions while we suffer.

Sick at Heart, get to an Urgent care Center or an E.R. at once. You can become very sick and each new day produces a different withdrawal effect. Today I just saw my Doctor and he wrote for 270 (1 month) with a one month refill. If you have any refills you can transfer them, When you get back home, if you get back home fire your Doctor.
