I have been taking this medication for 7 days and off of it since a week and still have severe side effects, abdominal cramps, severe headaches, dizziness, unsteadiness... How long is it expected to last? It was prescribed with Ciprofloxacin to me and I take Entrophen on a regular basis...

Ohhh so you had that over two years? Painful.
Its horrible that we got flagyl, to help us get better. And now we are even more damaged.
I dont remember what you have been writing before. Did you have more problems then off balance from flagyl?

Actually my gut has not functioned well since I lost my gallbladder... docs just take it out so the pain stops and offer no advice, etc... but then they mostly know less than we do about nutrition. But it just got worse in the past 2 yrs. actually it got worse after I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy the same day.....so I know that what was happening before was just irritated by these procedures...

the flagyl is a new thing, taken late Oct and first 8 days in Sept.. had balance issues about half way into the regime. I'm thinking the tai chi may be helpful. I'll let you all know.

I also got worse after removing The gall bladder. They took it out because i had so much gall bladder Stones and so much pain.

Bjh. About The off balance. If you took flagyl in september, you can still can improve alot. Many in here have had balance issues and dizziness, but got better with time. So you can still heal that. For me its over 13 months. So for me I think its permanent. But i still have hope, even if its so Hard

Improve a lot? Does this mean that I'll never get back to normal? I don't find that acceptable... and Congress just passed a law to reduce regulation on drugs and medical devices. Which means that we are going to have to do all the research before we take anything. I've got another UTI.. and the doc wanted to rx Cipro... I refused and asked them to prescribe something else...the side effects of Cipro are very much like what I've experienced with flagyl. Why would I want to do that?

Ohhh so they tried to give you cipro? Its just crazy! They are exactly like flagyl. Just poison. Good that you refused. It is so much People out there, Who are so damaged from antibiotics. I Will nerver ever take flagyl Again and never ever take a fq. If I take an antibiotics again, then i Will research it like crazy before.

Off course you can get back to normal. Many do that. Some recover some, and some dont. You are in the beginning off it. So it just takes time to see.

Interesting that I talked with a lady this a.m. who seems to have difficulty walking also and she describes her symptoms sorta like mine. I'm going to ask her more questions..

Ohh ask her if she has taken any antibiotics at all in the last couple of years. Sometimes side effects will not turn up instantly though.

Yes, going to do that.. the pharmacist today said that the effects of this med should have worn off by now, since the last pill was taken Sept 8th... but he also said this was a terrible med and has major side effects... doesn't mean that he can refuse to sell it when it is Rx'ed.. I think we need to post info about the dangers of taking it so that docs will get the message or at least the consumer will.

actually im one of the crazy person in here that having a lot of complaint in flagyl but i stop posting here as i told that i never think of this condition much ..i was 22 when i took
7 days of flagyl 3x a day and together with cefuroxime .. and believe me it was worst nightmare ever.. but surely
i almost forgot how it felt because it was so different now ..my first year was a tough year i tried everything except drugs or bunch vitamins ..i cut some bad food ofcourse .but only raw foods help me i think ..they say right now that i just look like 20 even im 25 perhaps because diet help me ..but there is no magic in this condition ofcourse i still do have pain .. but i dont pay attention on it i am more excited now to give more nutrients in my body .. i think i am sensitive too in some hard foods ..even nuts so i soaked overnight them and cultured them so it will be easy to absorb by the gut ..and do nut milks ..i do eat fruits and veg by itself and do juicing because i like it to be much absorbs .and i drink boiled leaves for my tea so my protein and sugar bla bla well balanced .sometimes im having trouble with my gut
i also experience my gut hasnt moving but i help it everytime by hard inhale and exhale move your stomach for a second and the pain gone or a hit of cannabis if its allow in some places..ofcourse it only comes when i eat a lot specially fruits .. so not all fruits so you have to choose what food it is easy to digest .. im using vitamix blender for some of my cashew nuts, flaxseeds etc and some fruit for it was easy to grind ..and i do that in daytime so i can make sure that they are all digested .. moving helps.. and do some tours like swim in the ocean ..actually i was so happy this year ive been a lot of places and i never get afraid to swim in ocean unlike before my mind was a bit settled ,my skin and hair got better now and also i forgive that medicine and myself too..
that i know i cannot be like other person out there that living normal and eat normal . i accept my condition that sometimes i have to go home and give myself a peace of mind , rest and eat well
and my anxiety was so controlled ..everyday i became excited , and bit felt happy
i even rarely visit some horror stories .. the way i felt before was different now ..
i love dates and a lot of fruits ..fresh fish , beans and nuts veggies and do design on it ..and be with friends and go visit a lot nature when i dont have work .. i spend mostly in eating not n my clothes or some gadget out there ..well im just sharing here what ive been through right now ..i hoped i can have my own fruit market or my farm ..i can drive well right now .. i have a pain in my muscle yes but its fine ..i think its just normal ofcourse im poison and i accept it ..and i can do a better things coz ive learn well i just believe on that .. and also i forgive that some doctor or some people will give an opinion in my health because i was so open now to them, listen to them and i just analyze those things before i try and the mostly i would do is to listen to my body ..
i doing carrot juice ,apple juice many mixed everyday ..
im living in tropical country so its a bit lucky ..
i never think that fruits and veggies will be a magic bullet to any illness
simply i consume it because it is a food ..
just dont expect anything ,but be open for everything
i always do research on healthy things ..not in related in my condition
because i believe this condition has having a lot of complications so they cannot diagnosed easily .if you have gut problem then your skin sucks ..bla bla kidney liver will make complications if not working properly ..they are connected to each other
i do have immune response as i really observed when i introduce new things in my body it hurts reallyl actually even it was good things
so i try to keep myself balanced in everything i take

Sorry that you still have some pain. But you are even better and better with that? Arent you?
You seem to eaten good and healthy food, thats good. I also eat healthy. But for me, it has not start to improve. Just worse.
But keep us updated how it goes in the healing later on also. I hope you can be totally pain free one day. I hope we all can heal from this.

You are so right
It needs to come out there how Dangerous flagyl can be. It can destroy lifes. They should not be given, except a life or death situation.
Well, they have told me that to. "flagyl is out off your system a long time ago ". And that maybe is True. But it has left me with damage. neurotoxicity and nerve damage through out my body and The central nervous system. But The doctors are so in denal about this. They Will not admit that The drugs they prescribe are neurotoxic.

Get her to the doctor fast... she could have that awful diarrhea that kills people. If you read the side effects it does mention that....clos.....difficille? I can't spell it or pronounce it...

It's called c diff. And yes it's possible with Flagyl and a lot of other antibiotics, unfortunately. If she's having a lot of diarrhea, then getting a stool sample might be a good idea. Just in case.

Been on metronidazole and cipro twice for diverticulitis. Both times I developed side effects late in the regime. I took Cypro once before for something else and don't remember anything too crazy so I attribute most of this to metronidazole. Nothing till my sixth day of seven. Then darker stool, dizziness, slight headache, twinges around the guy muscles, a bit sleepy, not bad. Seemed worse after a short night's sleep. Stool started to lighten 18 hours after last dose. Clear your schedule as best you can but still excercise and drink more water. This has something to do with your intestines being cleared of all bacteria both good and bad. Try yogurt, sauerkraut and ginger supppements. They help with the side effects.

Mike, your suggestions are appreciated but this isn't just about lost gut flora. If I were you, I'd be very careful about being on metronidazole and/or cipro. Both can act as a neurotoxin on the brain (the FDA label even has warnings about this) and cipro is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that can permanently damage your DNA. People have become disabled due to these meds. Plug fluoroquinilone toxicity or metronodaloze toxicity into Google and the medical literature will come up. Believe me, I wish it were as simple as getting in more fluids and probiotics. Unfortunately, not so much.

Thank you Erin for stating the facts. Since 2009 I have been dealing with Floxing. I had a 3 hour debate with my son last night telling me that every time the pain is bad I need to push though it and it will go away. He was not around the first three years as he was away. He has no idea all that I went through holistically, herbal, physical, mental, diet, especially since I lived that way before even floxed. As my husband told him, my doctor 's words were"I do not understand, you are by far my healthiest patient", Go figure. Fecal transplants, blood diets, yeast diets, alkaline, ionic magnesium, abscorbic vit C, milk thistle, then backing away on things because it is too much, I ate antibiotic free and hormone free before floxed. In my mind, I knew 100 percent I was going to beat this. Still trying for sure. Will not give up. But I did have to stop trying so hard as it was actually making me worse than better. Two years of Glut. IVs two times a week for 6 months a stretch. The money I have spent trying to beat this floxing. When I read on Flagyl -my heart goes out to everyone. As I told my son, I was him, I was that person that when people had pain I would think,...you are doing something wrong, it is in your diet, you need to exercise, you need to live like I do...WOW, I was so wrong back then. I just did not know the facts. For some, yes, these things work, but for some of us it does not. That does not say we give up...never give up. I pray someday to awake with no pain, or less, and e able to walk better. My son says I depress him with how I have to live. That is hurtful. I did not choose this. I understand as well, he just wants his mom back even though he is 31. But he is tough on me. I have asked him repeatedly to look through my files and he might be able to help then be a critic as he would have a better understanding. $48,000+ later. I get very defensive--VERY. And I do not want anyone to walk in my shoes as it hurts. I have pain brushing my hair. So crazy. Then I think, they have yet to cure--not treat--cure, Parkinsons, Alz, MS, Lupus, MD, and many more so why should I be surprised with this. Difference is what did this to me. Probiotics are great - I used them before this and still do, but no cure for me. I do feel all should try these things as for some it works. I do not feel I have a chip on my shoulder about this, just the facts for my situation as we are all different living with this.

Yes Erin and as a matter of fact I went back to the dr and my infection wasn't gone so now they gave me 2,000 mg again but spaced it out to 2x a day for seven days still worries me though cause it makes my neck and shoulders ache.

Hi, Malinda. Yes, I understand what you mean. I took Flagyl for only seven days, and at the peak of my toxicity, lost the ability to walk and speak. Even after I stopped, there were problems both neurologically and psychiatrically, too many to get into here. It's been a year and a half but luckily most of the symptoms are gone. Other people I've spoken to are not as lucky. I am sorry you're still having problems--you are right, there are some things that can't be easily fixed.

The metronidazole is causing neck and shoulder pain? Neck pain is listed as an adverse reaction to the drug--on my pharmaceutical insert, it said to stop the drug immediately if neck pain and or stiffness occurred. I had neck pain and still have it a little but I don't know if I'm the best example as that was one of about thirty symptoms for me.
