Metronidazole Lasting Side Effects (Page 33)

I have been taking this medication for 7 days and off of it since a week and still have severe side effects, abdominal cramps, severe headaches, dizziness, unsteadiness... How long is it expected to last? It was prescribed with Ciprofloxacin to me and I take Entrophen on a regular basis...

I, too, had issues with pain on the inside of my throat--right side, and trouble swallowing. As per the pain and all the symptoms that Anna wrote, I also still suffer with all the same but never as severe as the first 6 months in 2009. Stay strong and if family believes and understands that is the most important thing. Family support--it is so hard to get someone to understand a condition that we ourselves would not have understood if someone was explaining it to us and we did not go though it--if I did not suffer with this and someone else told me about it--what would I have thought--this is the craziest thing--how do our teeth hurt, hands, feet, body burn, fasiculations, feel so odd now and cannot explain it, my vision tests fine but I see out of my eyes so odd now and cannot explain it to a dr.--depersonalized for sure....yet--since april 17th 2009--I am still pushing through each day with praying for a miracle.

If you feel tingling in your hands and feet, or feel mental confusion or blurry vision contact your doctor immediately! Your doctor should be familiar enough with flagyl to know those symptoms are serious and should have other options of antibiotics to pursue with you. I've had to take flagyl on and off for a recurring cdif infection I have and my doctors have stressed to me that those symptoms are serious and if I ever start to feel that way, it should not be left ignored and can lead to long term damage. There are other options, you don't need to take the flagyl if you feel those symptoms coming on.

M, I think it's wonderful that your doctors have cautioned you about Flagyl. You are, literally, the first person I've read about whose doctors actually knew about Flagyl's affects on the brain and body. My doctors didn't believe me--this is after going to the ER, my primary care physician and spending two days in the hospital. I begged them to switch my drug (I had c diff), and they wouldn't do it. I took 3,000 mg more of Flagyl after my adverse reaction before they finally switched me, and that was only because I wouldn't shut up until they did it (they told me, flat-out, they didn't believe my symptoms were due to Flagyl as they switched me to vancomycin). 99% of doctors are i****s when it comes to adverse reactions to drugs.

Its sad to hear that you still suffer, since 2009 :-( okay so you also had trouble swallowing. Did that go away? Or do you still have that? Yes you are right. If this had not happen to me, could i understand all this weird things, if some one else had told me this? Should i be honest, maybe i couldnt. But i should have give that person support. Yes love from friends and family is important. But should i be honest, many friends and even family has not been there for me since this happen. I now know Who truly are my friends and family. My fiance and my parents has been there so much, and has believed me in all this. That support has been so so important. And then i have found new friends, Who have been there, Who goes through The same thing. Like you wrote melissa.... This is Hard to explain. I said to The doctors it feels like my eyes can take in what im seeing... He looked like me like im crazy. But how can i explain it better? Its The truth. Its been 6 months now since this happen to me. I really hope that it can get better, but i feel, to be honest that i have damage that i have to live with. But im trying to go back to some what a life... In some way. Im not giving up, even though its very Hard. Hugs to you melissa And i hope we all can get that miracle, so we Will not suffer anymore.

M, I think that's wonderful for you, that your doctors understand just how dangerous Flagyl can be. You are, literally, the only patient I've come across who seems to have had that experience. 99.99%, doctors do not believe Flagyl can cause all these horrible effects. Mine didn't, Anna's didn't. We're all told it's just in our heads and it's anxiety. Even though these adverse effects are all listed on the FDA label for the drug. So it's a nice idea, in theory, to go to your doctor--most don't believe this can happen.

DRS--for myself--I have been going through this since april 17th 2009---that is many years of this. I have seen drs. for years--have traveled to cities to see drs--and no better. The supplements, glut. IVs, vit. IVs, diets free of everything, blood diet, accup, cupping, homeopathic, neuro, psych., infectious disease, endo, pain management, PT, fecal transplant, hospitalized for failure to thrive. I see a dr. every 5 weeks to this day for pain--and before this--I was, like many, in very good health, exercised my WHOLE adult life, ate antibiotic free before and after all of this, very good diet, never had high blood pressure, chol. great, my dr. words when this happened "I DO NOT UNDERSTAND--YOU WERE MY HEALTHIEST PATIENT" and she said this in front of my husband and sister in law--all this due to a sinus infection in March/April of 2009. First levaquin, later given Flagyl for treating issues I was having from the reaction to Levaquin--made it worse and worse. I am so done with DRS--my filing cabinet is full of them. It is so obvious--my RX history shows no medications for many many years, then April 17, 2009-Levaquin--three days later my world was full of pain, a month later given Flagyl as well--my pharmacy record shows what happened to me and drs. still question things. They are the most insulting group of people I have ever dealt with. Again, I do my best--keep praying--and still believe in miracles!! I really do. God Bless and for those that have not been to drs. yet, yes, go and see if you can get help by all means--by for those of us that have gone so far and to so many drs. and hospital stays, we get each other....

M, I agree with Erin, these meds as fluroquinolones cause long term if not permanent damage and no doctors care. Not one dr out of 20 I have seen have admitted it or even entertained the idea and help nor look at any of the documentation. We only have one another here and a group named floxie hope.

Well,I have been better. Never had severe issues breathing and with tendons until recently weird and my menstrual cycle is coming twice a month now and the worst thing for me is the insomnia since the b12 shot. Since then I am missing most of my sleep and do t feel like I am missing any. My body get fatigued but never my brain since then which is strange and never had issues sleeping in my life. Even since flagyl was sleeping mostly all day. It's weird to never sleep or get warm cozy. Been just trying to push on find answers to feel better. What ever happened with your brain herniation? I am so sorry to hear you are in soo much pain still. I read up on a new treatment for pain from inflammatory diseases called bio electronic treatment that has been shown incredible advances in eliminating pain through I believe an electronic device implanted in the vagus nerve or works on the vagus nerve. Been finding it hard to know whether I should push myself when feeling weak or take easy. Sometimes it is exhausting my arms just typing soooooo weird. Please keep me updated. I did find a dr that seemed possibly hopeful but costs 2800 $ just for the first visit, so will not be doing that for a while. I will keep in touch. Xoxomelissa

I went to the doctors to get some blood work to make sure everything is ok with me. I felt like the doctor didn't really care and he told me the most common side effect is upset stomach from flagyl. That made me realize that they don't really know much about what's going on to their patients. I never even got stomach pain or anything like that. He thought I just had vertigo which I know is not what is causing my dizziness. But I would recommend reporting flagyl to the FDA, that's what I did. I have been feeling better but some days I still get dizzy and nauseous. Hope you all get better soon.

Like Erin was writing, if your doctor knows how Dangerous flagyl can be, then its very unusual. I have been to so many doctors i dont even remember how many. And they all say anxiethy, they dont know how much damage people can get from flagyl, and even other antibiotics. Its really scary that The doctors dont know anything about this.

Im also dizzie and off balance, but im like that 24/7, all day and night. How long was it since you took flagyl? For me its 6 months.

Im sorry you dont feel better. Weird that you have gotten worse with symptoms until later. Maybe its because of The b12 shot?
Im not sleeping Well either. But its better then The first 3 months, then i usually only slept 1-3 hours per night. Now im sleeping between 1-6 hours. And sometimes i still have nights when i dont sleep at all.
I have stoped taking supplements. Only take d vitamin once a week now and probiotics 2 Times a week, try to heal my body on its own.
Well about The tonsill herniation, i got a second opinion about that. They say its not that causing all my symptoms. but i definitly belive i got The tonsill herniation in my head because of flagyl. The doctors say they cant do anything about that though.
So you have trouble breathing still? Me too, but now it Comes and goes, before it was all The time. But this dizziness and off balance all The time is The hardest to live with. Im so sick off it. Hang in there melissa, i still hope we can get better, at least some. but this is still a nightmare. Hugs

Hi Anna, and for me it has been about a month since I have taken the flagyl. I only took it twice but now I have been feeling better because I take vitamins and try to stay as hydrated as possible. The sad thing is that I went and they found a uti in me and prescribed me this medicine and I searched it up before taking it and it's pretty much the same as flagyl. I'm really upset about this but now I know not to trust doctors.

Okay so you recently took it. But thats good you only took it twice, but not good that you dont feel good from this awful flagyl . What kind of symptoms do you have? I took flagyl 400mg, three Times a day, for six days until i was so bad. I Ended up in the ER.
Ohhh for me it also showed that i had a uti after flagyl, but i refused to take more antibiotics. But you never took what they were prescribing you? Its sad, doctors dont have a clue about antibiotics. Im never going to trust doctors Again. And im never going to take a medication, before i have researched it very Well. Sorry for my bad english, im from sweden. Hugs

They gave me flagyl 500mg and the first day I took i went to work and felt super tired and dizzy, nauseous, I was shaky and felt like I was going to pass out. I didn't think too much of it until the next day then I felt even worse. I couldn't sleep and felt so weak. Then I decided to search up reviews and came across this website. It makes me sad that so many girls are going through this. A couple days later I woke up with hives and it was so bad they were in my face too. I was so scared. Your English is really good though.

Oohh so sorry you was so ill. I agree with you, it makes me sad to that so many People out there suffer from flagyl, and young People to. Many suffer from so many things, pain, dizziness, sleep problems, severe anxiethy, fatigue, neuropathy,and so much more.

Has anyone tried taking chlorella tablets, which are supposed to clean toxins out of your body at the cellular level? I've started giving them to my husband, since he was on Metronidazole, and he's doing some better with his side effects (swollen and painful thumb and hip joint, neck pain, back pain, diarrhea), but he hasn't taken it more than a few times, so I don't know how well it will work all told.

The other BIG detoxifier out there is Organic Sulfur Crystals. People that take that all rave about how much better they feel. I think I want to try that next.
