are these the same drug? I have both and want to be sure they are the same. ## Metoprolol Succinate is an extended-release medication and Metoprolol Tartrate is an immediate-release medication. Because Metoprolol Tartrate is an immediate release tab, it would most likely require the patient to take additional pills throughout the day in comparison to the extended release version. Additionally, generics may also have different levels of potency (as they are allowed to contain up to 20% more or less of the actual active ingredient). Furthermore, each tablet has its own composition of inactive ingredients (binders/fillers) that can also significantly effect the absorption rate of the drug itself, making it more or less effective overall. I hope this info helps to answer your question! ## T...

my dr gave me metoprolol er (time release) today. 25mg to help lower my heart rate and blood pressure. I took it and about 3 hrs later stared feeling so strange. my face got real hot and it feels like there pressure in my head. I read that the generic brand could be different than the name brand toprol xl and that it could spike blood pressure. I called the pharmacy and he assured me it was the same thing and that it only lowers BP. did anyone else experience this when first starting metoprolol er? also it hasn't seemed to lower my heart rate either. btw I also just started taking Zoloft as well. any help or advice would be appreciated. thanks. ## It actually may have been caused by taking them together, since the Sertraline in the Zoloft can increase the effect of the Metoprolol, i...

Checking to see if white pill, marked M and then 3 below the cut line, is in fact metoprolo er tab suc 100mg. First time I've seen these. They are larger than the last generics I got. Doctor called in prescription renewal. They are a thicker round white pill with m2. Mfr is Dr. Reddy's. I don't know mfr of m50. Both are mail order from CVS Caremark. can the change from metoprol 40mg to metoprolol ER50mg cause a persistent cough? ## HI Lois, Based on my research, persistent coughing isn't listed as a side effect of Metoprolol, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen to anyone. When taking any medication, or especially if you're increasing the dose of a medication, you may experience some rare side effects while your body adjusts. Are you taking any other medications that might interact with the Metoprolol?
