I started taking metoprolol 25mg. Half in morning and half at night.3 weeks ago for tachycardia brought on by anxiety, ekg normal, chest xray normal, cbc normal, last couple of days i wake up at night to my heart pounding and sometimes a chest pain that comes and then is gone just that fast, i woke up and checked my resting pulse to be up to 115 to 120, then goes back down after a few minutes,bp normal. kind of scary why would this be happening, also went to hospital a week ago for stomach pains, did a ct scan with contrast and was told i was constipated. could this be related? never had this problem before, and no treatment is helping it. please let me know. ## Hello, Karen! Hi, I am a 56 year old male in fairly good shape, prob 20 lbs overweight. I've been walking and biking lately trying to get healthier... i had bp slowly creeping up over the years..finally doc convinced me to start 25 mg Metoprolol er about 4 years ago ...didnt help bp...he said Metoprolol is not the best bp med but i was a bit anxious. he thought it would help both things. bp still 2 high so he changed to 50 mg about 3 years ago. bp even worse...doc retired. went to new doc 2 years ago he added 20 mg lisinopril and bp perfect ever since. now here is the twist...well on just Metoprolol i was having racing heart...for ex wake up from nightmare heart racing FAST...have to pace about for like 20 min....drink soda, finally burp and heart back to normal...i was always taking pulse always...

After Angioplasty, I was advised to take METLOC ER-25 ("metoprolol succinate er 25") - one daily in the morning. Now, they are going to conduct MPI (Stress test) in a day or two. Doctor advised me stop taking this "metoprolol succinate er 25" - 72 hrs before the stress test. Because of that I am feeling (a) slight headache (b) pain in chest (c) giddyness - at times. Is it OK? I was prescribed this medicine back in december. I have been taking it faithfully. I am a 46 yr old woman with no prior heart problems. I was placed on this medication for hypertension.
