Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 83)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

We were floored when we found out what it was. Her heart rate did go up pretty high but just the one time. They gave it to her after 11pm while she was very sleepy, I think she may have been asleep even. I told her today that I felt that it was very irresponsible of the doctor to put her on that.

Carolyn weird that your daughter was put on it. The inhaler med can cause increased hertcrate. I would think it is a temporary thing. Would query the doctor to find out why and how long she needs the Metoprolol! ! Short stretch shouldn't cause the issues like longer time I would guess.

Please tell your daughter as far as I'm concerned staying on this stuff has worse problems in the long run than withdrawals from it. Just ride the storm out and know it will end. I really don't feel it's as bad withdrawing from it as it was for me to stay on it but that's just me we are all different. If she doesn't like the way it makes her feel now then she won't like it later. Tell her to hang strong and know this to shall pass.

My 24 year old daughter was put on this meroprolol while in the hospital for pneumonia. Her heart rate went up after a breathing treatment so they put her on this. She was taking 25mg 2x a day. She wants to stop taking it but is afraid of the withdrawals. Any advice would be great.

Justme......glad to hear you're feeling better! I literally get goose bumps with a big smile when I hear of someone that has successfully passed through the twilight zone. That's when we truly know with absolute certainty that this drug does horrible things to some of us.

You should tell your doc....uh yeah I have anxiety from this poison you put me on and seeing I didn't have anxiety before you put me on it and now I do tells me it's not out of my system yet! Good God in heaven if we believed everything this docs say we might be in nut houses by now! I guess I'm starting to feel a little anger from being misguided for so long. Never again!

Well glad to see that everyone is trying to pull thru . Spoke to my doctor today and she believes i have anxiety and that i should have no more beta blockers withdrawal by now because its more than a month . I was like really .!! The other terrible part of her is that the hydralazine she gave me made feel worse . Aparently that drug almost makes yoy feel like you have lupus !!! Glad that i am switching doctors in 2 weeks

It will get better Lauren it really will just hang in there even if they go away and come back or switch to some new symptoms it will get better. Good luck and hang in there it's so worth it. Be kind and understanding with your body cause as far as I'm concerned we are getting over our bodies being poisoned. Weather it's due to an allergy to this stuff or it's actually poisonous we may never know but be thankful we are off it. Hang in there I'm routing for us all for sure!

So amazing to see all these posts! I can't believe how much better I sleep and other things! It will get better I promise! We are all different so it's gonna take us different amounts of time and also somebody mentioned the fat burning causing the drug release again!? Wow! Also mentioned the hyperthyroid....I remember when I would wake up and my eyeballs would feel like they were gonna pop out of my head. The only reason I know it was the metoprolol is it doesn't happen anymore. Also I would get cracks on the sides of my mouth that would feel like paper cuts and I don't get them anymore. I am convinced that this stuff is toxic and I would have never found out except for the process of elimination and a couple of doctors that questioned why my az doc put me on it to begin with. Hang in there everybody. I'm not getting any of those aches in my knees, wrists and fingers anymore that was really weird. The stiff neck will also go away. When I go for a massage it releases some toxins and I feel like krap for a few days later but I try and drink lots of water. I assume this to will pass. God I'm just so thankful to have my level head back again. I will keep posting and as I remember things I will post. The anxiety is sooooo much better! Thanks guys for listening and sharing

Keep posting guys. Been having an awful time, one day clear as a bell, next day a mess. I am convinced this drug has messed with my thyroid, all these symptoms are identical to flares of hyperthyroid. My blood work is normal, I think because it comes and goes. Every single hour is a crap shoot. Sigh. Eat protein every 2-3 Hours and drink spring water constantly. As I sit here, suddenly I am clear as a bell, after having a bad day so far. I often feel better by late afternoon, early evening. I'll keep plugging along. Feb 9th will be 2 mos off of this garbage. Every time I am in despair I look at this support group and gather the courage to keep hoping. Thank you all.

Hi Sandra...from what I've read, and the way my doctor explained it to me...drugs, vitamins and toxins are stored in your fat...so even after you stop a drug...every time you burn fat, it's like you're processing that drug as if you were still ingesting it. So everyone's different for how long it will take you to burn off residuals...I believe this to be true...hope it helps you to keep hanging in there...try to think about how far you've come. I'm sorry...I know it's a rotten thing to go through.

Woke up with a horrible headache again. Feels like a knife in my head on the left side. Hurts so bad. Starting to worry me. I keep thinking I have a stupid blood clot or something. My neck feels extremely tight too. Still possible withdrawal??
