Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 68) (Top voted first)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Hi Jimbo: I don't know either on the review process. Some of my posts are posted within a minute, and others won't come up for days. I usually receive an email when someone posts, but sometimes they'll go to my junk mail.
Is it okay to drink Grapefruit juice and orange juice and Epsom salt while on metoprolol tartrate
Im finding that I still have shortness of breath and still getting dizzy spells 2 mo after metoprolol. Sound normal?
Not really . Are you on any other medications? Anything? What's your bp? Are you in shape? We need a bit more information.
If taking a small dose seems to improve your symptoms then I'd say it must be your body trying to adjust without it. If your electrolytes are all ok and your bp is good, I'd give it more time. I wouldn't panic. Assuming you don't feel faint and if the dizziness is just slight, I'd just be patient if it were me.
Some people seem to have trouble adjusting if they take it for a long time but it's not the drug itself, it would be long out of your system by now.
I have been off caffeine so long that when I drink any, I get dizzy. So pay attention to what might else be contributing.
But it's like I tell everyone.. If it concerns you too much, ask a doctor. You know your body best. The fact that taking a little metoprolol helped you leads me to believe it's an adjustment issue that should resolve itself over time.
Try one thing, if you are allowed to take an asprin, maybe take just half a baby asprin and see if your dizziness improves. I doubt it will but I'm just curious.
I will say this though Anita , if your shortness of breath gets too uncomfortable or concerning, I'd definitely seek medical attention. It's not that I'd panic over it but breathing trouble can be a real aggravation and can make living really tough. And I don't want that for you. Possibly a simple inhaler can off occasional relief but you would have to ask a doctor. I haven't had much experience with them.
If you have a pulse indicater which displays your oxygen level in your blood, I'd check it when you are having trouble and see what your oxygen level is. You can get a cheap fingertip monitor to tell you. If it's falling below 90, I'd go get it checked.
I meant Sandra, not Anita. My apologies.
One more thing Sandra. Just as a simple precaution, try the Epley maneuver and make sure your crystals are aligned. They most likely are but it's simple to do and there are YouTube videos to show you how. If you are having chronic dizziness, I'd always try this first and go from there. It never hurts even if it doesn't help you.
Thank you Tony! Ive been off 2 months but I cant help but think im still in an adjustment period. I heard they can take a very long time.
Any MD/DO knows we have to TAPER these drugs when ceasing therapy. If you're doc doesn't know that, d find another one, preferably a Board-certified Cardiologist. I had a female friend at me State U Gifted Program, whose Dad worked for Ayerst, developer of there first popular beta-blocker, Inderal or propanolol. I read "DO NOT DISCONTINUE ABRUPTLY" in the package insert and PDR. This applies to ALL beta-blockers. Oh, I was 16 and n high school and the language was CLEAR in the PDR.
Hi y'all its been a month now since I been on metoprolol tartrate 12.5 mg twice a day. Okay I done had my Echocardiogram done but for some reason every time I call about them the Nurses never call me back.
Anita...day 40... Congrats!!! You've come such a long way and you've truly helped me get through this. I understand what you mean about the blue cuff syndrome...when mine would go up on "adjustment" days, I would get anxious right before taking it. And I have the white coat right now because the last time I was at the doc, a nurse trainee incorrectly took my Bp, and it read too high...I could barely feel the cuff...it was too loose...so I spoke up and they took it again and it came down...
Sorry about your bad days...I hope your withdrawals keep getting less and less. Mine seem to be overall getting better, but still have the bad days...but I'm only 2 weeks off. I'm hoping the withdrawals keep improving overall for both of us.
I checked on your link. I know many brands of amitriptyline, but TREPHINE isn't one of them. I assumed a tricyclic AD based on the discussion and the last syllable. I apologize for my earlier criticisms and complement you on your research skills. Can I post a link to Official Prescribing Info, too?
Can somebody tell me if I should take my dose of 12.5 mg now while my bp is 100/70 and HR is 83??????
Dee can u please tell me how long where u was on them
I was explaining in one post how difficult it is even with three experienced psychiatrists with PhDs in pharmacology was well, to come up with a cocktail for a Major Depressive Disorder. Lots of patients expect: "Experienced shrink. Here are my symptoms of Depression. "OK, here's some Prozac and Ambien. You'll be fine, See you next month." It's almost NEVER that easy. We're not trying to make extra money, but "titrating" is required in some cases and that takes time.
Another one who didn't construct you to taper? Dod we have an epidemic of idiocy among PCPs? That's just plain malpractice; it;s part of his job to tell you what, if anything, you need to do to discontinue a drug safely. Sometimes I'm ashamed of being an MD, despite the prestigious school, and this is one of them! NO EXCUSE FOR THIS CLOWN!
I think we all know what dark days are. That's why I became a doctor and chose to specialize in psychiatry. It's really an invaluable part of our training that we DON'T et in school. Thanks for stopping in!
How dizzy are you feeling? Very mild or strong dizzy?
Tony, its mild and its not constant. It comes in waves.
