Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 67)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Cjj88- thats a benzo like Xanax they work but can be addictive. But i know there are times that are hard and you might need to take one . Just be careful. I think we will eventually get better but beating anxiety is a tough battle .
Does anyone else get fast heart rate still and especially out in the heat? My heart rate the last few days has been high while im moving around and high out in the heat. Im 5 mo off. Also, a message for the ladies, do you find the withdrawal much worse during "that" time of the month??
Sandra- i do also i get tired and sweaty really fast of doing physical work outside . I think its just our heart not used to being on its own again with the M To slow it down .
Yeah JR I have not touched them and have no plans too. The anxiety has cropped up the last two days and just going to wait it out again...it's such a vicious cycle.
Why are my post not posting? I hope this one does. My anxiety was a feeling of nervousness shaky voice, discomfort, achy chest/heart, feeling physically "scared". A few times I almost checked into a a hospital. I was at the movies and felt like electric waves running from the back of my neck to the rest of my body. Unbearable. I left the theatre sitting and pacing back and forth. Started driving to the hospital but the symptoms started lessening or so I told myself they would.
I used to get deep scary palpitations when I went out to my hot car on a hot day. It has lessened over time. I think the magnesium and trace minerals have helped.
Sandra, are you taking magnesium at bedtime? Should be taking 6-800 mg nightly
Potassium min 3k daily. Also did you add copper 6-8 mg at night for that anemia?
Metoprolol makes us more sensitive to sun and with that the heart!! It's a miserable but seemingly necessary drug! I hope for neuter days for us all.
Just curious what the magnesium does?
Magnesium stops that heart pounding. You can take 800 mg if you are having an episode, it will shut it down. Regulates heart beat.
Lauren, I haven't added the copper yet. Doc has me on an iron supplement tho. It makes me super dizzy!
I have been 2 weeks off off and I'm still feeling terrible. I feel like someone is standing on my throat and lungs, everyone thinks I'm nuts because it should be out of my system! Does anyone know how long this lasts?
Norma, what mg were you on and how long were you on it. Those are big factors to how long it MIGHT last. Im 5 mo off and still having issues. I was only on 6mg when I got off and was only on it a year and a half. Its not in our system anymore but our system is trying to reset after using it.
Suzanne I have been off for two weeks and I feel horrible like I can't breath! Are you any better I wish I knew how long for this to go away
Sandra I was on 25 mg of motprolol for about six months, I had side effect from he start but then they subsided, then came back. Doc told me to stop and call him back, well it's been the worst two weeks almost went to ER thinking I'm having a heart attack, called him back today and I'm waiting to hear from him, this is very scary
Ralph I'm going through the same thing doctors told me know way the motprolol is still in my system I feel like an elephant is sitting on my lungs! No one will listen. Did it get any better for you?
Norma I've been of it for maybe 6 weeks dr. Switched me to coreg, that's no better , I'm off that and now on benicar, much better but still side effects but not like metoprolol
Sandra, stop the iron and take the copper daily for 3-4 weeks, then try adding iron back in slowly, continuing copper. :)
Norma, you will need to titrate off VERY VERY slowly, it takes some of us up to a year to be totally symptom free, due to the time it takes for sensitive folks to get their systems to reset. This is a NASTY medicine. What you are describbing is right on track with what the rest of us have gone thru. Read thru old posts, it will be an eye opener and very helpful.
