Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 62)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Norma, what mg were you on and how long were you on it. Those are big factors to how long it MIGHT last. Im 5 mo off and still having issues. I was only on 6mg when I got off and was only on it a year and a half. Its not in our system anymore but our system is trying to reset after using it.

I have been 2 weeks off off and I'm still feeling terrible. I feel like someone is standing on my throat and lungs, everyone thinks I'm nuts because it should be out of my system! Does anyone know how long this lasts?

Lauren, I haven't added the copper yet. Doc has me on an iron supplement tho. It makes me super dizzy!

Magnesium stops that heart pounding. You can take 800 mg if you are having an episode, it will shut it down. Regulates heart beat.

Just curious what the magnesium does?

Metoprolol makes us more sensitive to sun and with that the heart!! It's a miserable but seemingly necessary drug! I hope for neuter days for us all.

Sandra, are you taking magnesium at bedtime? Should be taking 6-800 mg nightly
Potassium min 3k daily. Also did you add copper 6-8 mg at night for that anemia?

I used to get deep scary palpitations when I went out to my hot car on a hot day. It has lessened over time. I think the magnesium and trace minerals have helped.

Why are my post not posting? I hope this one does. My anxiety was a feeling of nervousness shaky voice, discomfort, achy chest/heart, feeling physically "scared". A few times I almost checked into a a hospital. I was at the movies and felt like electric waves running from the back of my neck to the rest of my body. Unbearable. I left the theatre sitting and pacing back and forth. Started driving to the hospital but the symptoms started lessening or so I told myself they would.

Yeah JR I have not touched them and have no plans too. The anxiety has cropped up the last two days and just going to wait it out again...it's such a vicious cycle.

Cjj88- thats a benzo like Xanax they work but can be addictive. But i know there are times that are hard and you might need to take one . Just be careful. I think we will eventually get better but beating anxiety is a tough battle .

The doctor prescribed Ativan but I am scared to take it...just fighting with it the best I can. I'm sorry we are having to deal with this.

Cjj88-i have been struggling pretty bad with the anxiety . I started taking lexapro again but have to really give it some to kick in . Last i only took it for 3 weeks . I need to give it a full 6 weeks . Every thing else is normal and but anxiety is horrible when it kicks in. How about you taking anything for anxiety ?

Hey JR, I was wondering how you are doing. I saw Lauren posted and Is still putting up a good fight. I was doing pretty good until I think I over did it at the gym the other day. Now the anxiety has reared its ugly head a lot stronger than it has been. Prayers for all.

It was all bad. Varying levels of depression, fatigue and anxiety all over lapping at different times of the day. It was hard to function. My doctor prescribed Xanax. I researched it and was scared to take it but was desperate. I needed to function and go to work. The Xanax really helped control my anxiety. I was able to sleep and function better. For months I thought, "well now I'm going to be addicted to a new drug." But no. As my body normalized I needed less Xanax and now haven't used it for a month. (after tapering off, I was dosing every other day and so on). I have been taking rhodiola and its helped over time with the anxiety.

As for the depression and fatigue, I tried anti depressants for a week and didn't like the side effects. I just prayed it would get better.. It did. It just took more than a year and days of doubting what I had weren't withdrawals anymore. I can feel my body trying to heal itself now. It's just takes time. I was on M for so long. I don't feel guilty about the Xanax anymore. I'm actually thankful because it helped me sleep and function.

Danny- was the anxiety the worst part ? I have been off 5 months too and now taking Lexapro but its been hard especially since it makes you feel worse in the beginning. My doc does not want to give me xanax or and of those type of drugs for now .
