Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 4)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

I’ve heard a couple people mention that. What is that exactly? Are you still feeling bad?

I’ve had a few dr appts. Had a complete abdomen and pelvic ultrasound ( no results yet) and I have an endoscopy first week of may?

RV any diagnosis of what’s going on with you?

Woke up right now with an episode and I’m trying not to freak out. Heart Rate went to 120 and I felt nauseous. Went to the bathroom and tried to breathe it out. I feel super funky and laying back down I have a little bit of the shakes. I feel like I have pressure in chest but wondering if it’s more like reflux. My husband is out of town and I’m trying not to freak out because I really want to go to the ER but I’m the only one here with my kids. This really sucks

You’re moving back to India? How have you been?

I feel like I’m going through a wave.... not a big one but this week I have been feeling really funky. And that weird episode I posted about below and last night I had an episode where I woke out of my sleep with 136 HR. It went down pretty fast but I hate it. I also have been having the worst lower back pain and it’s radiating to the front so I can’t decipher if it’s really lower back pain or pelvic. It’s been really frustrating. I had a urine Check and no UTI or kidney infection.

I went to the Gastrointestinal today and they are gonna do an endoscopy, complete abdominal ultrasound and a complete pelvic ultrasound so we shall see.

I hate feeling off and this week has been really rough. My husband’s cousin just passed away out of nowhere at 42 with an abdominal aortic aneurysm so I’m like what the heckkkkkkk with all these symptoms that I’m having.

How have you been RV

How have you been Juliya

I sent a reply but I guess it didn’t go through! I had been doing pretty well, went to Florida for a small vacation and all had been pretty decent.

I just woke up out of my sleep and felt like my whole body was covered in icy hot. I tried my best not to panic but what the flip! Have you have ever had they sensation? Now I’m back in bed and the feeling has almost gone away but now I have the shakes! What the flip is going on!?!??!!? I really don’t want to make a trip to the ER.

How have you been?

Re: RV (# 2483) Expand Referenced Message

It’s not a problem. I did have muscle aches. I still get them. Along with the burning skin. Sometimes the burning skin would get so bad I would just cry in the shower because it burned so bad but I had to get clean.

Re: RV (# 2480) Expand Referenced Message

So I started loosing weight when they took me of the clonazepam. It started coming back when I took the metoprolol. But I had different side effects on the metoprolol which prompted me to want to stop.
I did loose muscle as well as fat. Metoprolol blocks the adrenaline in the heart , kidneys, and skeletal muscle (that’s it’s main course of action) so it’s not surprising that I lost muscle and fat.
The weight loss was pretty drastic. I lost like 30 lbs in less than a month so definitely not a normal weight loss.
I have not had that specific testing done.

I can say I agree with the doctor from India as far as I do not think it’s a neuro disease. I think it’s still your body trying to adjust back to life without metoprolol. Anytime you take anything your body makes adjustments to it’s presence. Say drinking coffee every morning. Your body adjusts to it presence. Once that adjustment is made and you stop drinking the coffee your body must make additional adjustments to the absence of the caffeine. It works like that for any chemical or substance. It’s not a quick adjustment either. It takes time. Your body has to create new neural pathways to those chemical changes which sometimes can take a couple of years. If it’s getting too drastic you can go back on the metoprolol, wait until your body stabilizes and then do a very slow taper. Jumping off of 25mg is a high mg to jump off of in my book. I only jumped off 12.5mg and I’m still suffering over a year later.

Re: Juliya (# 2478) Expand Referenced Message

Feeling better! I think my body is finally getting used to it. I just got my 2nd covid vaccine dose on Saturday so was fatigued from that but finally feeling back to normal. Did you get the vaccine? I can’t remember. I still getting these sensations of like vertigoish/weird feelings but they are not very often. Next Monday will be a full month on the Corlanor so I’ll see weather to continue or not. I probably will to see if this can reset the sinus node.

What do your waves consist of since you said they were getting bad?

RV- how are you doing?
