Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 45)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Magnesium citrate is not only for laxative, magnesium citrate is highly absorbable for the body, and it stopped my heart palpitations

It's great to see that this thread is still alive! Hopefully everyone is doing okay. It's been about 19 months since I've been off Metoprolol.....whoo hoo.....but to this day I'm still feeling mild bouts of anxiety and heart palps on occasion. Thankfully they're becoming fewer and farther between. I still can't drink a cup of coffee, though, for it'll trigger my anxiety and heart palps immediately. It's weird, because I used to be able to drink three or four cups or even more with no problems at all. I am still 100% convinced that this drug really fouled up my central nervous system in some way or another, regardless of what any doctor says.

I hope all is going well for everyone!

It's not magnesium citrate. It would the one you find in the vitamin Isle. It is just magnesium.

I was only on them a year and a half at a small dose. The chest pressure has been constant. The anxiety is better. I also still get lightheaded occasionally like my system is messed up. I have other things going on thats not related to the withdrawal but I can tell the difference in which is which.

How were you on them, Sandra and have you had some good days?

Matt, I am just at a year off and my anxiety is still bad and I have 24/7 chest discomfort. I can no longer take any meds in pill form due to being so sensitive now. Beta blockers were the worst for me andnI swear it completely took down my nervous system.

Having a difficult couple of weeks, saw my cardiologist about my chest pain. He rold me it was not my heart, so I am still spooked about that.

My EKG was fine but I had a 97 pulse.

6 months this week; the flushing is gone but I get very anxious with any company, because this withdrawal/anxiety/depression is all I have on my mind these days and I am trying not to bum anyone else out as this is a happy time of year. People start telling to me its all mental. Well yes the physical part gets to be very mental especially when the super anxiety returns.

I felt almost normal for a week or so, even thought I could make it to a movie, but the old ugliness.

I hope all whomare still reading this had a nice Holiday. All the food here and I was not even hungry.

Anxiety is better but not gone; I was feeling pretty good until my chest started becoming uncomfortable. My blood pressure is still too high and I am wondering if this is angina. Every blood pressure medication I try has bad side effects. Cardizem made me depressed and Norvasc gave me nausea and both really did not help my BP. Still on Ativan. Cortisol levels were normal.

All the doctors tell me it is too long, now six months, still to be having withdrawal symptoms, that it must be something the metoprolol was masking. I do not think so.
Even after 20 years? No, too long. So I just listen and do not get worked up arguing.

My body does not read and memorize the medical journals and everyone is different.

I have not been able to exercise because I have developed arthritis in my knees during all of this. Three weekly shots of some gel was shot in my right knee, but I cannot walk for very long and I am used to exercising vigorously... just cannot do it without lots of pain and I cannot take NSAIDs.

Happy holidays to all.
Happy holidays

Hi, Matt

I haven't had those symptoms.
But I wanted to say that I am glad for you because you had the toughest case of anxiety from all of us.
How is your anxiety now? Much better (I know that it can't be perfect yet)?

Can you do semi-normal things?
Can you walk and slowly go out now?

I am approaching 6 months off M and feeling better, not perfect, but better; however, over the past month or so, I have developed chest discomfort, a steady pressure in the chest, which seems constant.

Has anyone experienced a new symptom like this after such a long withdrawal?

I have been taking Metoprolol Succinate ER 25mg once a day for the last 2 years for high blood pressure I am currently weening off of this drug. I've had side effects off and on during the 2 years. I do not like how this drug makes me feel or how it affects my heart. After some research on magnesium and the effects it has on enzymes and muscle functions in the body and how absolutely necessary it is for the body and heart I decided to give it a try. Just quickly: Magnesium relaxes muscles whereas calcium contracts them. Arteries have smooth muscles that line them so if there is a magnesium deficiency those arteries could narrow producing HBP. 80% of the U.S. population is magnesium deficient due to modern day farming techniques. My BP before starting magnesium therapy (orally Magnesium Glycinate- Doctors Best brand) about 120/80 to 136/88) I also take Lisinopril. Have taken Magnesium for 2 weeks and my blood pressure is too low at 90/68. After a week of weening off of Metoprolol 25mg down to 12.5mg, my BP is back at 124/84 and I haven't noticed and withdraw symptoms yet (thank God). Google or YouTube Magnesium Deficiency or Magnesium Dr. Carolyn Dean. I just thought this could help because it has helped me greatly! Also magnesium usually is not checked for in your normal blood panel like potassium, sodium, chloride and calcium is, it's separate specialized diagnostic to get that count. If it is checked for, it's a magnesium blood serum evaluation which is not accurate at all. I hope everyone can get well and get off of this stuff!

Hello my name is Anthony Bryant, how about a month-and-a-half ago I started having heart palpitations, I was so scared I went into the ER 3 days in a row, they put me on beta blockers Metoprolol. This seemed to calm my heart down each time, but it's funny when they checked my heart out everything was normal EKG Echo for my heart, even my blood work and thyroid was fine, the doctors told me sometimes people's heart just beats off Rhythm sometimes, so they prescribe a pill form of Metoprolol, all together with the ER and the pills was one week on this drug. On my last two days of that week I took half a pill only. Then I completely got off upon my research I found out that magnesium citrate help me out dramatically it stopped my heart palpitations, but just being on that drug Metoprolol 4 that one week, I had some chest discomfort, night sweats lightheadedness, but it did go away, if anybody is dealing with heart palpitations and anxiety attacks please look for magnesium citrate, organic gmo-free. I hope this helps, Halleluyah
