Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 28) (Top voted first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Sandra- not quite sure how much it will set you back but once i stopped i never ever tried another one due to being afraid to restart everything. I hope you feel better and remember we are all here for support

I was on 12.5 mg (very small dose) twice a day for 1 1/2 years. Been completely off for 3 months (except for a sliver I took 2 months ago). Obviously I am very sensitive to this medication or any meds for that matter. I will have a few good days now then a bad few weeks. Its been a rough ride.

I started at 100mg and then my doc upted to 200mg for 10 months until i started having bp spikes. Thats when i started freaking out and she switched me to bystolic for a week but couldn't tolerate that . Then she stopped me cold turkey . Havent touched one since December 17 . Just keep your head up Georgia you will pull threw sooner or later. I am definitely doing better. The first 2 months are the worst . Then you start having good days here there

I had a minor set back..ended up with a horrible sinus infection that I have had for 5 days now. It has taken my mind off the withdrawal and allowed me to rest tho! Goingto the doc today to go over test results from 2 weeks ago and gonna have her look in my ears and nose while im there. How are you feeling?

Went to the doc today..apparently I am very anemic. She says I am a 10 and they usually do tranfusions at a 9. She thinks my fast heart rate, dizziness etc are mostly from that. I do think I am having some withdrawal but also maybe this is part of my problem.

Sandra- i hope you feel better . I can't believe that your that anemic . I am doing better i actually have been dealing with allergies like crazy . Lightheaded, raspy throat and tiredness. Heart rate still acts up randomly as well as anxiety but better than before.

I am doing better but still dealing with bouts of anxiety and heart palpitations. I can only hope the progress continues and speeds up.

Jimbo, I appreciate your anecdotal experience with metoprolol, in particular starting at 1x/day, then feeling the urge to take 2x/day.

This morning I started with 1/2 of a 25mg, my first metoprolol since August. Very busy and have not noticed anything unusual, good or bad.

One important distinction, I've got some "secondary" medicines, things I have added to my regimen since last December, which will tamp down any excessive anxiety symptoms.

I also practice meditation every day, something I learned over 40 years ago. Within a few minutes my mood is lifted to a calm, peaceful place, after thousands of sessions it is an almost automatic internalized process. Recommended for anyone who wants some natural tranquility.

In addition is my physical exercise. Starting next week, I will be working my stress in the Fitness Center on a daily basis.

My willpower is strong and I have managed to get through a lifetime of drug taking, both legal and not so legal, without any damage. Thank the Lord!

Hope you making out ok, Jimbo. Where is everyone else, do you know? My best wishes to all.

Hello all, wondering how everyone is doing? Sandra -no WONDER you have felt like garbage. Make sure you add 4-6 mg of copper to your supp routine at night, take iron in am. They work together, but should not be taken at the same time :) I too wonder what happened to Tony :(
I am on the mend, now more good stretches than bad, but the issues pop up when least expected or wanted. Biggest issue I have now is my plantar fascitis crippling left foot usage. Finally broke down and went to doc for shot in foot (joy) which hasn't really helped at all. Another next week . If it isn't one thing it's another. I hold all of you close to my heart, you have helped me get thru a VERY dark chapter in life. We will all continue on the long path to wellness, hopefully together. Hugs to all. Don't give up, the struggle is REAL.

Ralph, DJS is correct when she says that cutting the "extended release" tabs can result in miscalculated doses. If you're going to need to wean off slowly, I'd strongly suggest getting the regular round/white Metoprolol tabs that don't have the colored coating on them. Also, the 25 mg tabs are perhaps a bit easier to deal with. While having been on them for only four or five weeks may well be in your favor, it may be just long enough that you may find yourself needing to take a longer weaning period than anticipated. Everybody is different, but the one thing that most of us here have in common is that we're very sensitive to this drug. Just be careful, and don't worry about taking all the time that you'll need to do it right. Wishing you the best!

Almost 4 months off...today, I am lightheaded, heart rate a little high and have had 2 anxiety attacks for no reason. I know some of the heart rate and dizziness is my anemia but I didnt feel this way a few days ago so I guess this withdrawal is still sticking around!!

I've been off for five months and was taking lowest dose two times a day for I think eight years! I would have to check my medical records! I haven't been exercising for the last month and eating really bad so I'm thinking this is not helping at all seeing I'm going to be sixty soon. Back to healthiness I go and will check in and let you all know if it makes a big difference. I don't want to go on any bp meds at all so I'm gonna have to get healthier. Hang in there everybody!

Thanks Jimbo and the anxiety calmed down today. I'm doing a cleanse from my chiropractors office and started today. No coffee until after the 21 days and already feeling better without the coffee. I really believe I'm gonna feel better after this detox program. I really think no exercise, toxic food and toxic people really feed the anxiety we were left with from the M so I just need to work harder on myself but be gentle also. Thank God we are off that poison M.

Sandra , i have been thinking that we may all be over the withdrawals but maybe the anxiety is giving us hell especially since it presents lots of physical symptoms.

Sandra- read on it there is alot of people who suffer from it and based on used taking beta blockers we got our bodies used to having adrenaline , anxiety blocked from it . So its hard to readjust . Especially health anxiety , you start thinking you have this or that . In this case we are thinking we are going thru withdrawals still
