Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 114)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Re: RV (# 2260)
I hate when they approve messages days later. So dumb
Glad your parents have mild symptoms, I’ll pray that they continue to have mild symptoms and recover quickly.
Don’t go down the rabbit hole of the aneurysm. You don’t have that. That’s so rare
I was having pains like in the middle of my left breast lol little shooting pains. I don’t think it’s heart related but it’s so hard not to freak out! Yesterday was rough with the palpitations. I ended up taking 1/4 pill of the channel blocker.
I was doing some research and came across some articles and medical chat boards of allergies and palpitations. When my mom and sister came over for Christmas Day they had a huge allergic reaction to our live Christmas tree. So I’m looking at the things that were new when the palpitations started and it was the all soy diet, the Christmas tree, and the Covid news. So now I’m wondering if the Christmas tree maybe started the palpitations. I mean who knows, it could all be straight coincidence and I’m reaching for the stars but I’m just trying to understand how these just showed up out of nowhere. It’s so frustrating. And I don’t have my cardio appt until Jan 13th.
How are you feeling today?
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2261)
Felt better after taking calcium channel blocker? I wonder how much time will it take to reach homeostasis. On a bright side your appointment is just 15 days away .
Yes i made a terrible mistake of googling about aneurysm now i feel bloaty , gassy i was never anxious in my life and now not a single day goes where i dont google about somatic sensations.
Re: RV (# 2262)
Yes even just the 1/4 channel blocker pill calms it down.
I really hope if the cardio suggests moving forward with an ablation that it takes all of this with it.
I’ve been off 8 months and still not at homeostasis. I don’t know when that will be
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2263)
It takes 6 to 18 months
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2263)
These PVCs are so bloody annoying. I don’t understand how they just started out of nowhere
:::tantrum emoji::: LOL
How are you guys doing tonight ?
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2263)
Hahahah i have been having these weird back sensations i dont know from where. Laying in bed my heart rate goes down to 50s and while walking its between 85-115 such a wide range ffs.
1/4 of ccb is not a bad dose if you ask me. Just saw juliya’s reply 6-18 months is a long time sighs
Re: RV (# 2266)
That’s not that bad at all. My walking rate used to be anywhere from from 148 to 178. So if you ask me those numbers are immaculate!
Re: Juliya (# 2267)
Oh is it i was just checking my apple watch records when i was taking 100 mg metoprolol and saw my heart rate go to 42bpm! I hate metoprolol How are you doing nowadays?
Re: RV (# 2268)
I’m doing okay. I have my bad days and good days. They alternate.
Re: Juliya (# 2269)
Awesome! If you could help i just wanted to understand what could be possibly the reason why we feel we are not breathing properly or is it slowed down so badly i dont know it scares me and doctor just says anxiety. How do i get over this feeling?
RV (# 2263) --
It’s your body going back to normal after beta blocker. M makes the blood vessels expand making the blood flow easier and the heart not work so hard. Unfortunately it also effects other receptors including the lungs. So after you quit M the blood vessels go back to normal and it feels like you’re having trouble breathing but your not. Do you have an ox meter? What is your oxygen reading? It’s just going to take time for your body to heal and for you to go back to homeostasis. We all deal with different symptoms from that nasty drug. I’m 8 months off and still feeling like I have symptoms including a super duper sensitive system. I’m hoping at some point it will all go back to normal.
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2271)
Oximeter readings are generally between 96-99% but haven’t checked it when i feel those symptoms i think i need to remind myself that this didn't happen before taking metoprolol but it hits me suddenly like i am just sitting and doing nothing and i’ll feel i am not breathing and it scares me. Did this happen with you as well? Sorry if my questions are repetitive
Re: RV (# 2272)
Those oxygen levels are normal. I had some of those issues at the beginning and even on M but not really anymore. Just try to ignore it, it will eventually go away. The panic might be feeding into it more :( how many days have you been off?
Re: RV (# 2272)
I’ve had rebound tachy today :( just trying to ignore it and know it will be better tomorrow
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2273)
Been 45 days since off this drug the only thing thats troubling me now is this. It is scary because this thing is supposed to be controlled by my brain automatically and i have been off it for so many days. Did u take ccb yet?
Re: RV (# 2275)
I only take ccb only when neeeeeeded and the sinus tachycardia doesn’t bother me. I only took the 1/4 pill to cam the PVCs a couple of times. I know it’s fine and some days are just high. Ever since I got off the M it’s been up and down. I don’t know if my possible SVT would cause that or not. Or if it’s just a side effect of getting of M that hasn’t healed yet.
Just give it more time. Your body WILL heal.
Re: RV (# 2275)
Ugh that auto correct was horrible. Meant to say
1. Don’t know if the sinus tachycardia is a possible symptom of my possible SVT or if it’s just still side effect from getting off the beta blocker.
2. Ever since I got off M I’ve had rebound tachy on and off
3. I only took 1/4 pill ccb twice to calm down the PVCs. I don’t want to take pills for anything else
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2277)
Makes sense how often do you get tachy? Once in a few days?
Also ccb comes in 2.5,5 and 10 mg dosages you are taking 1/4 th of?
Yes i should let my body heal but this breathing thing makes me more anxious and the loop continues
Re: RV (# 2278)
The channel blocker I have is 30mg (cardizem) and I split that in four. Although I’m reading and it says not to split but it’s not an extended release tablet. Oh well, I’m def not taking a whole pill after the whole beta blocker ordeal.
Try not to stress. You are breathing and the oximeter is telling you your oxygen levels are fine. Your body will heal! It’s just going to take some time.
Re: RV (# 2278)
The tachy is random. Couple times a week maybe
