Metoprolol Side Effects (Page 2)

I started Metoprolol Tartrate 25mg being one tab every 12 hours. I was in the hospital with a blood pressure of 200/130, sometimes higher with a high pulse and irregular heartbeat. I experienced tightening in chest, slight difficulity in breathing, and extreme variables in my pressures. Most of the time they are in the normal range, but occasionally my systolic has dropped under 100 and my diastolic was 58. I am monitoring my foods and am also taking Ativan twice daily. I am terrified. Anybody else have these variables in pressures? I have only been on the medicines for four weeks now. I have had diabetes and thyroid neg testing. I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder??? Never heard of it before. All my family including five siblings have high blood pressure as well.

After surgery a few years ago. The doctor put me on 25mg dose 2xs daily of metoprololol for afib. I've not been tested since with all the side effects and then some. I was thinking all my issues were from chemo 2 1/2 years ago. Could I be over dosed on the metoprolol? Thank you

I am now on losartan 50mg twice a day and chlorthalidone 25 mg once a day. I get tired sometimes but not as bad. My hair is slowly recovering, my nails are strong again and no dizzy spinning.

Yes, I had seizure like episodes, passed out and hit the floor twice. My doctor took me off Metoprolol completely. Feeling better since off for about a week. Little side effects of racing heart and nausea and stomach pains. Not feeling of faintness.

I also have genetic or primary high blood pressure, there's many reasons for blood pressure fluctuations, not the least of which could be you are on the wrong medication. Before coming to this conclusion, though, I have to ask: do you take your B/P the same way everyday? In other words, the same time of day, in the same position (sitting laying down etc) on the same arm?you should be in a relaxed state. If you have recently exercised you should have rested for at least 15 minutes and always use same arm. It's actually recommended that you do both arms. Try this for 2 wks and if still having great fluctuations take the record (you should be keeping) to your MD.

I was put on same med , all docs argued with me , I am a nurse , finally I decided no more took myself off metoprolol, and started lisinopril , mom and dad both on it , after 6 months of being a zombie I have zero joint pain, I can breath , I am awake, trust your instincts! Get a doc who listens , I did stress test , it is hard to do on the metoprolol, and they found nothing wrong! Good luck , it is hard to find the right med, but metoprolol is awful,

Deanna, I had a radio frequency ablation. Feb. 29th. This was my second ablation. I have paryoxmal A-Fib. With A-Fib you have electrical impulses that are running erratic across your heart causing the palpitations. They go in to both sides of your groin with a catheter the tool burns those erratic electrical impulses and causes scarring to keep the electrical impulses away. I saw a video it was very interesting. They have all sorts of computers sat up and medical personnel are watching as the electrical physiologist does the burning. The first time I had an ablation. He hit over 49 spots. Told me I had lit up like fireworks. Sometimes it does not work completely the first time. My physiologist had a 85% success rate. First one did make my symptoms not as bad. I decided I was going for the second one. I waited a year. So far I have not had any palpitations almost four month out. Currently wearing heart holter for past two weeks. Only two weeks to go. If no episodes will declare me A Fib free. You will have what they call fluttering after the procedure for a couple of month. My flutters last two or three minutes and were gone. I have had A Fib for five years. I had to plan our family vacations around it. Looking for a hospital wherever we went in case of emergency. Be out having a good time and have an episode and have to go back to the hotel . I was tired of the whole thing . My cardiologist told me to watch my diet. You could get rid of A Fib by this procedure but if you gained an extensive amount of weight it could come back. That was enough for me. I am a big gal of 270. I am trying to reduce down. I hit 259 this morning. I have age against me too. I am 66 so it is slow going but I am determined. Hope all goes well in your journey. The ablation procedure I watched was at the Mayo Clinic. Watch one or two of those to help you make your decision. Hooe this info helped you. Health and happiness to you.

Will be fitted with a heart Holter on June 13 to wear for 30 days. If everything turns out well then I will be declared a fib free keeping my fingers crossed and praising God

I want to get off metropolol tartrate. I have PVC as determined by Holter monitor. I do not feel them. Taking 25 mg . Makes me very tired. And depressed. Dr. Says my dosage is low so there should not be a problem. She says it will probably not stop PVC. Had nuclear stress test no coronary heart disease. Been on it for two months. To stop night pill for one week and day pill for one week then stop.

See your Doctor or get a second opinion. There are multiple blood pressure drugs on the market and, depending on your personal chemistry this drug may be the wrong one for you. I could not use it. I had an immediate elevation in my blood pressure which, sent me to the emergency room. I am back on 10 mg of Lisinopril and it does make me a little dizzy from time to time and it causes me to cough more frequently than normal but, it keeps my blood pressure stable. I also, drink Hibiscus tea from the Hibiscus flowers it is a natural for lowering blood pressure. Absolutely no red meat, no pork,no bacon low salt or no salt I use herbs for flavoring my cooking.. I only eat Turkey, Chicken, Fish and lots of Vegetables and fruits and nuts for snacks. We Blood Pressure patients must change our entire diets and old eating habits if we want to live. I also, without any other efforts I lost about 29 pounds just from eating properly I am never hungry and I do occasionally eat chocolate (DARK) It's easier than you think. There are lots of foods on the market today and a multitude of greats recipes on YouTube for us. I hope this helps Get better soon.

I take metoprolol tartrate (lopressor) due to hypertension and A Fib. My dosage is 100 mg. twice a day. Plus using a bp patch once weekly. Doctor told me that the metoprolol would make me feel tired and it does. I also get light headed or dizzy when arising from a seated position. My bp would fluctuate from 132 to 180 on the top. I was to have a radio frequency ablation on my heart in January. My instruction sheet stated to go off metoprolol three days before the procedure because it controls your heart rate somewhat. I was having this procedure done out of town. The very next day I felt something zip over the top of my head. Checked bp jumped to 200/120 heart rate 100. I had clonidine tab to take in case of emergency. Took one lowered to 120/80 within two hours. Rescheduled procedure for Feburary Monday the 29th. My cardiologists told me when I went off the Metoprolol for the procedure to take Norvasc 10 mg in place of it. Sunday evening before procedure scheduled for 5 am on Monday I had to go to ER with Bp of 180/115 heart rate of 125 because I was in rapid A Fib. Lowered heart rate and bp with Cardizem so I could have procedure done. Two weeks post op I am back on metoprolol plus the Norvasc. Highest bp I have had is 127/85 heart rate stays between 64-68. I am elated over the bp. Two days it stayed around 95/70. No a fib so far. Going off my Multaq (heart rate med) in the middle of April to see if I go into A fib. Without the medication. Keeping my fingers crossed. This was my second heart ablation. First time Dec. 2014. Wishing everyone better health.
