Methadone Stopped My Periods (Page 4) (Top voted first)

Can any of the women out there tell me if taking methadone stopped thier periods? I have been on methadone for 4 years now and as soon as I went over 35mg it completely stopped and It has not come back since. I am on 60mg now. I did get lowered to 30 mg at one time years ago and it started right up again. Does anyone know if this might be dangerous? I have asked my doctor at the meth clinic and she stated its nothing to be concerned about because I wanted to know if I should be taking something to make it start and she said no, but for some reason it seems that it just does not sound good for a natural process to stop like that and not have it do any harm. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have been on methodone 105 for almost 2 yrs before that 80 when I was on 80 I had my period regularly. Once I went up it stopped. My Methodone Dr told me its fine still can get pregnant ( Im not trying) be careful if you want your cylce back go down on Methodone. I suffer from endometriosis so I don't want it.

I am also a waitress and an I Sweat A LOT!!! I HATE IT!! I've be going this time to the clinic for about 2 months.. And already my periods have stopped ( I was on methadone 3 yrs ago for a year) and never had a period in that 3 yrs.. I was on 65mg then ..but now I'm on 80 mg diskettes because as a server I sweat it out so fast .. But I am going to go back to liquid and start going down .. I AM SO TIRED OF BEING A PRISONER TO ANY OPIATE .. Been dealing with this crap for 10+ years.. Broke my beck when I was 22 and those doctors were just giving EVERYONE pain pills back then .. I wish I never would have taken that first pill .. I didn't even know what withdrawal was.. Had no idea how sick I'd get.. Crazy, viscous cycle.. And I am OVER IT!! But yeah I'm going down and getting off this crap .. My only daughter is almost 17 ( had her when I was 15) and I am having baby fever BAD.. I am ready for a normal good life. Don't get me wrong I've had a great life except for this opiate addiction from an injury.. And my my 16 year old has absolutely no idea I even have had a pill addiction.. She's my number 1 and gets everything she wants .. Momma has spoiled her rotten.. Just got her a 2005 baby blue convertible vw bug she deserves it she's a great kid.. But yes I gained 80 freakin lbs the first time I was on it .. That WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN ! I am getting off of this crap as soon as possible!! I hope this not having a period thing will keep me from having another baby.. We shall see ..good luck to all of you and get off that crap .. God bless

I'm going thru the same thing. I've been to obgyn they say to give it time. I took proverb 2st trying to jump start my period with no success :-( I'm tapering off now in hopes my period will start back. My husband and I want a baby so bad. The clinic I go to say they've never heard of methadone stopping periods so I guess we'll see after I finish my taper. Good luck and God bless

I have been on methadone for 6 years and I have not had a period since I started and my dr. said the same thing, I have nothing to worry about!!! And I have talked to a few other drs and they say the same thing.

I've been on methadone now for a almost 5 months and I haven't had a period at all. I am getting worried that's why I looked it up and this thread was the first thing I clicked on. I'm glad that other women are experiencing the same thing but has anyone spoke to a dr. About whether this is normal or healthy???

I wish you the best of luck! Can you let us know how you're doing once you are done tapering off? I very much need to get off this methadone and have been tapering little by little, I would love to know how it goes for you:)

As the same as you stated, ive been legally going to the methadone clinic for almost 8 months now and since then, ive gone months without it and then randomly ill have it, and then not for a couple more months. Ive been told methadone does affect that, but not sure why that would affect it. If anyone knows any legitimate infortmation, please contact me on email --> thank you much :-)

I am going to a hormone specialist next week, so maybe I will have more accurate information on the subject. Since my periods stopped, I had my hormones checked by my doctor and I do have some hormones that are at a very low level, which relates to my period being absent. I will hopefully know more next week and find out if it is definately methadone related.

Omg! I've never had to deal with or have I ever heard of anyone that has had to deal w constipation this bad! I've tried everything except go to my family doctor. I guess I'm just kinda embarrassed to go in. I also crave a lot of sweets but I force myself to eat a lot of fiber which doesn't even help. Ive only been going to the clinic for 4 months. I was hoping this issue would go away soon:(

this is so crazy. i'm on 110mg of methadone. I've been on the mmt program for 9 months now and I have had one period. I have had all kinds of bloodwork done and my gyno can't figure out whats wrong with me why im not having a period. LOL well now i know!

It is all definately related to the methadone. All of my hormones are normal. I went to the specialist and they did many tests. Now I am being put on a pill for 10 days that will hopefully bring my period on. We will see.

I've been on methadone for 1yr and I went to 100mg and I just started going down and in to 83mgs now and I haven't had a period since the day I started methadone and plus I have had nothing but stomach problems since!! I recently had to get a colonoscopy and in 2wks getting a scope down my throat to see what causing me to stay do sick! And I've gained 50pds!! I didn't weigh this much when I was pregnant!!! I wish I knew more about methadone before starting it cause if I would have I would have never started it!!

Thanks Danielle for that postive informative response people seem to be so negitve about the methadone program when it helps you so so much the good benefits defiantly out weigh the bad! I will def start taking vitemens now that I read this and make an apt. With my Obgyn ASAP. I don't regret going on methadone it saved my life all medications have side effects for the most part I feel great after I dose the mornings have been tough not sure I'm at my stable dose just yet. My boyfriend and I were both on methadone when I became pregnant last September. Unfortunetly, I carried the baby to 21 weeks and then went into preterm labor and had the baby which was a stillbirth. They say the methadone didnt cause it but I am convinced it did...

I have been in a methadone program for 2 years and 4months now. My dose was recently increased to 210 mg after having stabalized @ 200 for the last year. I just turned 40 in March...eek...LoL. But I haven't had a period in 2 & a 1/2 years. I've been told by dr's this is "normal" for women. I'm taking methadne for pain &opiod dependency stemming from physicians prescribing too many pain kllers 4 too long. I eventually developed a problem with heroin...but have been clean for more than TWO YEARS!!! yeah :) It took about 3-4 months to het the levels correct...and you could put a plate of that crap in front of me and
I was like, nah.
It's weird to not cycle monthly, buti feel like the gunk that flushes n filters out of you doesn' or can't. My 17 yr old daughter however, we "emotionally" cycle together (pms i presume) when she rags. As far as pregnancy, i have no idea. MY QUESTION IS how do u get on birth control when u don't have a period??? I know ucan get pregnant when on methadone, cuz my girlfriend did...healthy baby boy, too. P.s. sory 4 typos-- im using a tablet n my index finger...ugh

I crave sweets all the time too! Its terrible. Most girls that are on methadone, that I know, have the same problem. And almost everyone that I know, has gained weight, except 1 of my friends who will just be skinny her whole life no matter what she does. I even cut sweets out for some time and became more physically active and it didn't help at all. I am still at the same weight.! :(

I had been on methadone for at least 4 yrs, just recently, I completely stopped taking it, but had gone to my Primary Dr. which they put me on Wellbutrin, busprione, buprione and an anti histamine along with tramadoI. They said to get my chemicals back to normal. I had been lowering my dose for only a couple of months, but I haven't had my period in over 2 yrs, I thought it was because my mother; had gone through menopause at an early age.. but after further research I realize it was the methadone not to mention my ovaries are hurting now that all my senses are back. I am depressed, extremely emotional, and could choke the crap out of someone at the drop of a hat.....not to mention insomnia. I maybe sleep 5 hrs but it is getting better. I can't see due to my eyes being dilated for so long. My brain feels like a sponge....the bad of it all is I have five classes until I graduate from my local college with my AA, then going on to achieve my Dr. in psychology. I wouldn't recommend this pain medicine for anyone. It is just not worth all of the withdrawals. I am so afraid my brain won't go back to normal, which of course causes more anxiety and emotions.....Unless you absolutely have to take this poison, I recommend trying an alternative before taking this, trust me; IT IS JUST NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!
